Especially an office with a tiny window and the whole foot print is probably 15ft by 10ft

It's far less offensive than liberally spritzed perfume in an office.

EggysMom · 16/09/2019 19:27

In that small an office, there should be a no smells policy ... including tuna. It bloody honks.

MiniMum97 · 16/09/2019 19:28

Chilli is fine. Something very fishy, maybe not great in a small space, but it's just food and it passes quite quickly.

babbydriver · 16/09/2019 19:29

Eating in shared offices should be banned!

userxx · 16/09/2019 19:29

I'm having chilli tomorrow for lunch...... in the office 👍

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 16/09/2019 19:33

I used to work in an office where someone used to frequently bring in fish curry and heat it in the microwave. It did not smell nice and we were in a basement office with no windows.

LemonPrism · 16/09/2019 19:34

Sure you do, chilli smells amazing. It's hardly old eggs or fermented herring. People can eat a normal meal for lunch if they want. You're being snippy and annoying.

Phoenixrise · 16/09/2019 19:34

A lot better then a bag of microwaved sprouts!

LemonPrism · 16/09/2019 19:36

And if no one could ever eat at their desk then I'd never get to have lunch as there's no free time

Teateaandmoretea · 16/09/2019 19:38

Yanbu op eating lunch at your desk is revolting. I quite simply don't get that people can't take 10 minutes out. After all they manage to leave their desk to go to the toilet.

ClashCityRocker · 16/09/2019 19:39

We don't have anywhere to eat other than our desks...

Well, we could go and sit in the field opposite I suppose, but that's no good in winter.

Jenniferturkington · 16/09/2019 19:40

Yabu. Chilli doesn’t have an offensive smell. It is standard ‘left overs’ perfect for reheating the next day. As others have said, the big no no is microwaving fish.

pigeononthegate · 16/09/2019 19:42

Why shouldn't people eat at their desks? Why is it "revolting"? Unless they are slinging handfuls of it around the office, of course.

People have some bizarre hangups.

Aprillygirl · 16/09/2019 19:42

Smells much better than eggs or fish and no worse than cheese and onion crisps. YABU.

Teateaandmoretea · 16/09/2019 19:45

Not at all, it is really unhygienic.

Probably made worse by hot desking, at least if it's your desk you are sat in your own space so just your own germs and crumbs to sit in.

I think it's a weirder hang up that you never have time to do anything else. That's called poor time management.

ThirstyGhost · 16/09/2019 19:45

I used to have a boss who ate tuna directly from a can during one-to-one meetings with me. He had a beard and salty tuna juice used to drip down it. I was pregnant with morning sickness at the time. Compared to that chilli is gentle rose petals wafting in the breeze.

We're all sensitive to different smells though, so YANBU. Food should really be eaten away from the desk/office if for no other reason that people should have more screen breaks than they do.

pigeononthegate · 16/09/2019 19:47

So it's revolting IF people eat like pigs and drop bits of food everywhere, and don't clean it up. Which most normal adults don't, they simply eat their lunch while working and nobody is any the worse off Confused

timshelthechoice · 16/09/2019 19:47

YABU. Don't see the issue.

WindsweptEgret · 16/09/2019 19:47

Chilli is pretty standard. It should be either hot food, or no hot food allowed.

riotlady · 16/09/2019 19:48

YABU, chilli is a perfectly fine thing to eat in the office. It’s really only fish/eggs that should be banned

summersherewishiwasnt · 16/09/2019 19:49

Could be worse things to complain about. Non issue.

Heymummee · 16/09/2019 19:49

The only foods we get cross about in our office are fish or eggs. Everything else is perfectly acceptable.

Chewbecca · 16/09/2019 19:49

We say no hot or smelly food in the office. Go and eat in the canteen/ staff room / whatever to eat it.

RunningOutOfCharacte · 16/09/2019 19:50

My friend used to go and get a kebab with all the trimmings and eat it in our open plan office.

I think most people were ok until he belched pure garlic.

Teateaandmoretea · 16/09/2019 19:51

It is revolting in my opinion and I won't change it, people are entitled to different views.
