to ask what your life goals are now?

I always wanted to get an education, meet someone, travel a bit, get a home, good job, car and get married. Then have a family.

I had done all of those by 27. My son is now 5 and I remember laughing and saying my goal is to get parquet flooring before I die.

But in all seriousness, what now?

Do you even HAVE to have a goal?

I suppose another goal of mine is to bring my son up as a happy, rounded individual. But that's just parenting isn't it... not a goal. Or a personal goal.

So... what are your LG's now?

I want my husband and I to become financially independent, giving us the option to retire very early (40s).

In the shorter term we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/09/2019 16:07

I'm 29 haven't done any of the things you have (apart from have a child but I became a single mum at age 22 so finances are tight). Mine are to buy a home and travel. I would like to visit every continent! That's on the back burner though as buying a house is more important.

Inliverpool1 · 16/09/2019 16:09

Pay off the mortgage and make sure there is something for my children to inherit despite ex’s best efforts.
For myself to enjoy life a bit. Not had the best 44 years so far so once the kids security is ensured I’d like to be a bit more selfish and live for myself

ILiveInSalemsLot · 16/09/2019 16:11

I have done all those things but am still travelling and education is ongoing. There is always stuff to learn, books to read and places to see.
Parenting is ongoing too. I’m continually educating my kids and taking them to interesting and exciting places as well as trying to get the basics done.

cjt110 · 16/09/2019 16:13

I'm enlightening myself with reading about various cultures, lifestyles and love things like TED talks. I agree learning is constant and I love to learn.

I just feel a bit ... without direction.

We are confatble with our money and home. And whilst I would like to pay the mortgage off,... Actually? I'd rather my husband use the money for a decent car instead of a banger and get a nice sofa instead of the brick like one we have.

Is that a life goal? As well as the parquet flooring? Grin

I'm 27 (almost) and getting my second degree. I still have three years left but hopefully it'll increase my earnings significantly

We're getting married next year and we invested a lot of time and money in the event so we want it to be (close to) perfect

We own our house, but planning to sell and get something bigger in the next 2-3 years or so

We both want a little girl❤️

proseccoaficionado · 16/09/2019 16:17

Also, we try to travel as much as possible, at least 2 times a year (10 days + a city break) to see 2 new countries every year. We value travel so much as we believe it's the only thing that truly stays with you

dollydaydream114 · 16/09/2019 16:18

There are things I would wish for - like giving up work - but they aren't really goals as they're not really things I have much power over.

I try and blame gaols for the year or a certain time frame. One of my was to visit 30 countries by the time I was 30, well I'm 33 and I've visited 56.

My plans for 2020 would ideally be to get married, have my first baby and travel some more.

I don't have a degree so I've always loved the idea of studying to become a Counsellor (completely different from the field I'm in).

I think it's lovely having something to aim for but in all honesty I'm so content with life right now. I'm happy to breeze along as is.

writersbeenblocked · 16/09/2019 16:23

To survive 2019, it's been a shit year for us!

avocuddl · 16/09/2019 16:24

I'm exactly like you, done all my main life goals by 26. I'm 27 now and I'd like to get promoted before I'm 30. Have my dream kitchen (we're currently having an extension so hopefully this will come true in about 4 weeks!)

I thought that I would like to visit every country in the world before I die. I think it's mad and probably completely unachievable but I'm going to try!

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 16/09/2019 16:25

I'm 29, mine are:
. To own a home by 30 (I've been trying to buy since I turned 28 and had bum luck),
.To turn 30 with no dental work.
.Gain a computing qualification.
. Find a creative hobby I enjoy
.Find a sport/exercise I love (and lose weight).
. Hit my desired high up Civil Service Grade by 40.
. Happy, lasting relationship.

Probably boring but those are the ones for life in general.

BeepBeeep · 16/09/2019 16:27

Retiring so we can tour Europe again, but this time in our camper instead of the trains.
Once I've done that I will die happy in my bed with a double vodka in my hand.

SistersOfMerci · 16/09/2019 16:27

I don't have any life goals other than to be content when we can be.

I like being mediocre, middle of the road so I just don't have goals, never have done.

daisyjgrey · 16/09/2019 16:48

Get enough in the next couple of modules of this ResM to transfer to a PhD.
Transfer to and not catastrophically fail the PhD.
Do what I can to make my daughter happy and headstrong as she's growing up.
Have a career that means I don't panic when the car needs an MOT etc.

Amongst other mildly less costly & stressful goals...!

dollydaydream114 · 16/09/2019 17:23

It's so interesting to see what different people's goals and motivations are and how they vary so much. I've never really been at all ambitious career-wise - I could have been earning double my current salary by now if I'd wanted to go for promotions, but I never wanted to move up the ladder for some reason. All the goals I've ever had in my life have been personal life type things, not career ones.

By and large I'm pretty happy with my life right now - amazing DP, we have a nice holiday every year and a few weekends away etc to see new places, and although our house is nothing special it's ours and it's plenty of room for us. There are some short-term things I'd like to achieve, like running a 5K by the end of the year, but I don't really feel like there's much I need to work towards in the long term.

SilverySurfer · 16/09/2019 17:31

Waking up every morning is my only life goal these days. I'm in my 70s and physically disabled (use a walking frame) so think having a long bucket list like climbing Mount Everest would be kind of pointless although I did walk up and down Snowdon in my younger days Grin.

AuntieMarys · 16/09/2019 17:33

I'm 60.
My goals are to stay fit and healthy, travel as much as possible and spend all my money.

ilovethatshow · 16/09/2019 17:44

I would love to build up a portfolio of work that continues to earn me money and retire. That's my goal! And if love to pay off the mortgage and be totally debt free by 40. I'm 33 now

Inferiorbeing · 16/09/2019 17:45

To love my DP forever, to buy a bigger house to raise a family in, be successful at work and have some babies! I've met every one of my goals do far (education, house, job)

ArabellaPilkington · 16/09/2019 17:47

What AuntieMary said. I'm 52.

BelindasGleeTeam · 16/09/2019 17:48

Lottery win.

Yup, that'll sort it 😁

Passthewinethanks · 16/09/2019 17:52

I'm 30. two kids aged 9 and 1.have a lovely council house which is a lifelong tenancy. I should have 5 grand saved for each of my kids by the time they are 18. I work part time in a little stress free job I love.i have the man of my dreams.we have a week abroad in Spain once a year in a very modest hotel. We are bringing up wonderful children with good manners morals and health.we do not have the earth.nor do we want it. Or life long goals are to keep being the people we are. The key to happiness is realising what you already have Flowers

ScabbyHorse · 16/09/2019 17:55
