To report to school what my DD told me about this lunchtime supervisor?

Namechangingforthis2019 · 14/09/2019 14:03

Dd(8) told me that yesterday she saw a lunchtime supervisor take a fish finger off the tray at the serving hatch with her fingers and eat it. Dd said no other adults saw, she has seen this staff member do this before.
Would you email school and pass on what dd said?

A few bits of context -

  • I believe dd, she is not likely to have made this up
  • lunchtime supervisor has been working there about 30 years. She’s very harsh with the kids (based on what dd has told me) and anecdotally other parents have said even the staff are a bit scared of her!
  • school has an outbreak of norovirus last week so have been very hot on infection control, washing hands etc.

I know she probably didn’t touch anyone else’s food, but it’s not right is it? If nothing else it’s unprofessional and sets a bad example to the kids. But I don’t want to bother the school if it’s not really a big deal.

Would you report it or leave it?

Yabu = I should not report it
yanbu = I should email the school about it

Get a life OP, it’s a fucking fish finger!! And tell your DD that nobody likes a snitch! Jesus, why are you even giving this headspace?!?!

And @SarahTancredi How do you know what qualifications the lunchtime supervisor at the OP’s DD’s school has, or doesn’t have?!?!

hen10 · 14/09/2019 14:16

hahaha - I'd have told my DD it's one of the (very) few perks of the job and to guard her lunch carefully!

messolini9 · 14/09/2019 14:17

I think you should challenge your daughter to set up a sting operation.
Bait the hallway with fish fingery delights, all controlled by invisible thread, & film the Evil Supervisor as she capers greedily after the piscine treats. She's probably in cahoots with the Sinister Janitor. Do you have a large, cowardly dog & a camper van, to accessorise the escapade?

arethereanyleftatall · 14/09/2019 14:18

Christ almighty, who even thinks like this? Seriously, what must life be like for people who think this way. Of course Yabu.

Butchyrestingface · 14/09/2019 14:18

OP never came back, fancy that! Hmm

Tilltheendoftheline · 14/09/2019 14:18

I'm a lot more worried about what you've done to your daughter's head that she thinks this is something to report back to you.

This and why has your dd witnessed this several times but not one other person (child or adult) has seen it. Maybe teach your dd that staring at people is impolite and then find out when she is staring at her so much.

Oysterbabe · 14/09/2019 14:18

Fuck me there are some sad busybodies in this world. Of course you shouldn't report it, I find it astounding you gave it a second thought.

Namechangingforthis2019 · 14/09/2019 14:19

Okaaaay thanks for the opinions!

Actually not trying to be goady deliberately!

And a bit Confused about the remarks about dd being a ‘little charmer’, snitch etc. (And what even IS a ‘wee clipe’?)
She just told me it when we were talking about her day, she wasn’t going to ‘report’ it to anyone! I want her to tell me inconsequential details about her day!

But ok, I get the message, I won’t bother the school with it!

Your daughter is a tattle tale probably learnt from you. Seriously you are both ridiculous

Butchyrestingface · 14/09/2019 14:20

The "bit of context" relating to the member of staff having worked there 30 years and being fearsome is utterly irrelevant.

To anyone who isn't fishing to get the woman sacked.

Oysterbabe · 14/09/2019 14:20

I can see why you'd name change though, it's definitely because it's outting and not because you're making shit up.

CherryPavlova · 14/09/2019 14:20

I think I’d be more worried that someone eating a fish finger was the most interesting part of her school day.
I’d also teach her that telling tales is, generally, unkind and likely to make her unpopular.

Pomegranatemolasses · 14/09/2019 14:20

Curious as to who the 8% are who actually thought you should report it!

Butchyrestingface · 14/09/2019 14:21

And what even IS a ‘wee clipe’?

Scottish equivalent of a tell-tale-tit. Wink

DameMargaretofChalfont · 14/09/2019 14:21

PMSL at Hotchoc

The only thing she forgot to mention was make sure you book your half hour free appointment with a solicitor to seek SUBSTANTIAL compensation damages for your DD witnessing such a heinous crime!!!

Seriously OP - GET A GRIP!!!!

C305 · 14/09/2019 14:22

As part of a school senior management team, I cannot begin to stress how laughable it would be to receive a 'complaint' like this amongst all the actual real serious issues that we have to deal with on a daily basis🙄 it would however, give me a very good laugh and then go to the bottom of my to do list with other like minded nonsense 😂

WonderWomansSpin · 14/09/2019 14:22

Oh come on, there's no need to criticise the DD. She told her mum about her day. She didn't demand the FishFinger Inquisition. Grin
OP, don't report this. Tell your DD it's quality control or she's a food tester to ensure they're not poisoned or that DD doesn't need to understand the details of all the supervisor's duties.

TheQueef · 14/09/2019 14:22

Dd will be having quiet birthday parties if you keep this up.

percheron67 · 14/09/2019 14:23

A WHOLE fish finger!!! Needs to be reported at the highest level??

MarigoldGlove · 14/09/2019 14:23

I’m a primary teacher and if a dc in my class told me this I would say something like ‘I’m not surprised, those fish fingers are delicious, did you have a nice lunch?’

WaterSheep · 14/09/2019 14:23

She just told me it when we were talking about her day

But it's not the first time she's told you tales about the same staff member. I find it strange that an 8 year old is so eager to tattle on a lunchtime supervisor.

Sammi38 · 14/09/2019 14:23

Maybe she was hungry?

SuzieQ10 · 14/09/2019 14:23

This is really funny. Why would you even think about bothering the school with this! Loopy.

bevelino · 14/09/2019 14:23

@JumpyLiz Grin

BrutusMcDogface · 14/09/2019 14:23

Lol

Lol at stealing a “fishmonger” off someone’s plate, too!

Yabu but I’m glad you know that now! Wink
