steam trains - he spends every weekend going to events, every monday night at his club, goes on holiday to wales every year with his club, and spends every waking hour either watching steam trains on youtube, or his nose in steam train mags. i am right down the bottom of his list of priorities

Mr BeepBeeep is into...
Football, playing or supporting.
Brewing his own spirits. To be fair, he distills a great vodka.
Building kit cars.

My ex did jui jitsu?

My DH is a MAMIL out cycling most weekends and some summer evenings. Not to be a bluestocking here, but it's his main form of exercise and at nearly 60 he needs to take care of himself. I'm all in favour of it, even with the lycra factored in. I can't stand cycling myself, but I do like my children having a healthy father. Back off, MNers!

Back off, MNers!

No objection to cycling or other hobbies - objection is to the reference to a mysterious hobby.

LadyCarolinePooterVonThigh · 17/09/2019 10:48

Is cycling classed as a hobby when DH abhors lycra and wears his normal clothes plus bicycle clips?

lizzieborden1 · 23/09/2019 01:37

Riding a motorbike like he’s a teenager........

lady
I believe the MN rule on cycling for men is:

If they wear lycra or anything remotely kit related, regardless of the type of ride they're doing or the weather or the fact that lycra is infinitely more comfortable and practical, then they are a shameless MAMIL who thinks he is on the Tour De France, too slow to be on the road but also too fast to be on cycle tracks where they're walking their dogs and have the kids playing. They're selfish husbands who are trying to avoid family time.

If someone happens to ride a bike locally in normal clothes then that's just fine because they know someone a aunty's friend's husband who only ever rides in jeans.

So your DH is fine according to MN.

Out of interest how far does he ride? I can't ride more than around 10miles in normal clothes without getting a really sure bum and if it rains to I sweat normal clothes get really uncomfortable.

Haha, Lola, DH not a jeans kind of guy! He wears Rohan or tweed. He is nearly 70, though. He has often cycled 20 odd miles on his vintage bike, more for scenery and companionship than speed. (Last time was in France) He has a supercomfy leather Brooks saddle, they are pretty good for the more sedate cyclist. I think it's still classed as a hobby, though! You appreciate the countryside from a bike;-)
