Stop all this highly irritating coyness.

OP posts:

Oh God, I had one of these. It ranged from building kit cars, gliding (you think cycling's expensive?), then sailing. I got very good at holding wrenches, driving the tow car, and crewing. Then he got much better at sailing, I had a baby, he did lots of seriously scary racing, and met MrsMazylou #2. I divorced him soon thereafter, and she is now putting up with him rebuilding a house, as she is more of a pushover than me. I did have him in the "handsome, fit" years.

HepzibahGreen · 13/09/2019 11:24

Oh, well dirty cricket whites are not sexy. Unless you're some kind of. .specialist.

morrisseysquif · 13/09/2019 11:25

I went to decathlon last week to get something for my dc's bike and the place was deserted until I turned into the cycling aisle. I could hardly get in it for all the men in their fifties examining gadgets and padded pants.

@MarigoldGlove Grin Grin Grin

Posey67 · 13/09/2019 11:26

Honestly, when you've seen adult skidmarks in white pants, cricket whites stop being sexy. Not to mention his cup that probably hasnt ever been washed 🤢

chipsandgin · 13/09/2019 11:27

It’s beyond me how anyone could want to have sex with a MAMIL & every single one I’ve met is a selfish twunt, it’s the sport of the self-centred man.

Zaphodsotherhead · 13/09/2019 11:29

I'm with others in that I don't mind the DH's having a hobby, it's the phrase 'doing his hobby' that annoys me. Why 'doing'?

Not
undergoing
taking part in
absorbed in
out with his hobby

why 'doing'?

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 13/09/2019 11:29

I actually quite like the hot hot man smell of current fwb in his sports gear post match. He washes it himself though!

Posey67 · 13/09/2019 11:33

Tomhagen I'm guessing your OH doesnt wear white and manages to successfully wipe his own arse Grin

UnderCaffeinated · 13/09/2019 11:41

Playing Golf, or Ice Hockey are his hobbies. I often have assure people he really he playing ice hockey from 11:30pm - 1:00am. Hockey is always a silly times!

Adversecamber22 · 13/09/2019 11:41

The first time I thought ooh hot when seeing DH was when he was in full cricket whites for an interdepartmental cricket match. He stopped playing when we had dc as he is not selfish.

That’s the problem with all hobbies sometimes they have to be put on the back burner and that goes for both parents. Its because people, are either just selfish, don’t enjoy family life or are avoiding their spouse.
I’m a gamer of forty years, I have had periods of time where I just can’t game due to family commitments or work.

Current hobbies DH does park run and I walk the circuit my running days are pretty much over due to health issues. He also has a rowing machine at home, gaming and he is in top 1% in the world of the game he plays. I manage only top 2% of the game I play much to his amusement. I also make costumes and am about to start a mixed media arts course and a tai chi course. We also play board games together. He also watches sport, suits us both as thats when I game as I game more than him. We do this in the same room.

IdiotInDisguise · 13/09/2019 11:42

For those of you with MAMLs, I need to tell you that here in the outskirts of our city, many congregate every Sunday morning for long group cycles in the quiet country roads..After their cycle, the cafes are PACKED with MAMLs having coffee and eating porridge or cake.

Aww, that’s reassuring!... and infuriating. They arrive late from work late everyday and instead of helping raise their own children over the weekend, they are having a lovely day with their pals and having tea and cake at the end of the day !

tolerable · 13/09/2019 11:53

yabu. its a forum.there are already rules.you just gotta take whatchu get...hobby discretion inclusive

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 13/09/2019 11:53

@Posey67 no on the whites and yes on the successful bum wiping! Previous cricket player was yes on the cricket whites and yes on successful bum wiping.

Lepetitpiggy · 13/09/2019 11:54

Am I in the odd minority that thinks being married to a cricketer is worse than a cyclist?

You are my kind of person! When I first started seeing DH I went along to watch him play, expecting lively chat, possibly a bar and some laughter. Fuck me! It was the dullest thing ever. I left after ten minutes. 21 years on, it shows no sign whatsoever of diminishing.

Lepetitpiggy · 13/09/2019 11:55

Although...his outfit does stir me a little...at times

thecatsthecats · 13/09/2019 11:55

Is procrastinating a hobby?

BlackeyedGruesome · 13/09/2019 11:57

There was an event near me, I was tempted to go down there and add posters to the trees... Telling the feckless div to get off his bike and go and find the work that needs doing at home.

Another one for photography here.... I'm surprised there aren't more! Any excuse to spend obscene amount of money on lenses... DH has just left to 'do his hobby'. Photography and Birdwatching, mostly at the same time. The kit he takes out is worth more than his car Shock And I get Friday afternoon in peace Grin

Am I in the odd minority that thinks being married to a cricketer is worse than a cyclist? DH scores/coaches, my two boys Play/coach/umpire summer and winter, then there are nets, practices, after match debrief, clearing up after last season, preparing for the next season. The list is endless. It's warm and sunny, I don't have to do anything, some nice person makes a fabulous tea and there's a bar generally. What's not to like?

And if I don't go with them I get many hours to myself. Was a lovely break when the boys were younger.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 13/09/2019 12:11

What about those 'so unusual, it would be so obvious if I said what it is'- what hobbies are they??

LeysaV · 13/09/2019 12:13

A long long ago ex was into that civil war reinactment . He was a roundhead.

bidstonbabe · 13/09/2019 12:13

Opheliasgoldenwine they’re not unusual. They’re embarrassing.

LolaSmiles · 13/09/2019 12:15

That's not a MAMIL problem.
That's a selfish partner problem.

As I said up thread, selfish partners will e selfish regardless of hobby. Whiny partners who think that because they have no hobbies and interests their other half shouldn't either will be whiny martyr types whatever their partner does.

Anyone in an equitable relationship wouldn't have an issue with a morning out for a hobby.

But then as I said earlier, were back to people arguing that cycling means men who want to ignore family responsibilities because it's easier to blame the hobby than consider that there's a relationship problem that needs communicating.

HappyParent2000 · 13/09/2019 12:20

Gaming, some online some offline stuff.

wowfudge · 13/09/2019 12:33

I posted about DP's time-sapping hobby way back when. It wasn't and isn't cycling, but was potentially outing. If the hobby in question is cycling, so many people do it then posters should just say it's cycling as I doubt they'd out anyone.

I've an ex who was into scuba diving. That's another time consuming, away-all-sodding-weekend-with-similarly-obsessed people hobby.

DP's hobby is neither of those and he has mostly given it up in order for us to spend time together.
