To want to call this woman out on being a massive hypocrite

lastqueenofscotland · 12/09/2019 22:13

I’ve got a woman on my Facebook who is a family friend.
She posts a lot about saving the environment, a lot of sanctimonious memes about it, moaning about how the government don’t do anything.
But
She’s got 4 children, and is talking about a fifth (she recently posted something about the dangers of overpopulation!)
Eats a huge amount of beef and dairy
Flies several times a year, including trips that can easily be done on a train, ie from Scotland to the UK or London to Manchester.
Drives literally everywhere. Including when she can walk.

But somehow she seems to think that turning her washing machine down to 30 gives her a right to behave like a sanctimonious twit.

I don’t care really what she does/eats/how many children she has but if you are going to do all those things and somehow refuse to acknowledge how hypocritical it is surely you deserve to be called up on it...

Yanbu.

BadBehaviour · 12/09/2019 22:16

Might cause tension. YANBU

She may be one of those people “do As I say not as I do “ grin]

Templetonstunafish · 12/09/2019 22:18

Post your own one and done passive aggressive memes back at her as helpful comments Grin
You know you won't be the only one thinking this looking at her feed. I am a shit stirrer though it's why I had to come off facebook Blush

ThistlesandHarebells · 12/09/2019 22:26

Ermm - Scotland is still part of the UK. Despite stalwarts efforts to leave. So wherever the ladies flies to from Scotland it is not to the UK.

Raphael34 · 12/09/2019 22:29

She’s a knob. She won’t change. Why even waste the energy and effort following her posts, recording every hypocritical incident, starting a thread on Mumsnet about it with the intention of calling her out? Just unfriend her

Ponoka7 · 12/09/2019 22:37

Just unfriend her.

Willyoujustbequiet · 12/09/2019 22:48

You lost me on flies from Scotland to the UK

deste · 12/09/2019 22:50

Scotland to the UK, hope that was an error.

TheSerenDipitY · 12/09/2019 23:26

i called someone out on facebook.... the government was talking about making people on benefits take drug tests to remain on a benefit, and she was posting what a great idea it was and lazy bludgers would have to get to work blah blah blah etc etc etc.... i casually mentioned how it is amazing that so many people are hypocrites, when not too long ago they were on benefits and used and grew drugs... she deleted the post

Sunshine93 · 12/09/2019 23:34

Scotland is in the UK.as long as she posts about the government needing to do something and doesn't post in judgement of other people's lifestyles I can't really see the the problem. The government do need to do something and frankly she isn't going to save the planet by having one less child but a government will have a much larger role to play.

lastqueenofscotland · 12/09/2019 23:39

I’m aware Scotland is in the UK...
It was a typo it was meant to be Scotland to England. I was distracted by being annoyed.

OP posts:
Tesbel · 12/09/2019 23:41

Yeah I would call her out on all of it for sure... but... saying she flies from Scotland to the uk, being from northern Ireland that's frigging even more hilarious than saying flying from Ireland (which northern ireland is part of) to the uk!

Rainbowknickers · 12/09/2019 23:44

I was at work today when a woman thrust a cup at me to bin for her

She then turned to her mate-‘she’ll put that in the recycling’

I got talking to her mate while this lady was in the loo and pointed out that reduce reuse refill and repair come before recycling as recycling uses energy so we should try to do everything we can do before we get to that stage which is a last resort

She agreed with me and we where having a lovely chat about it

She then went downstairs and put in a complaint about me for ‘being big headed’ and ‘having ideas above my station’!

Thankfully my boss has ignored her!

MrsRufusdog789 · 12/09/2019 23:49

She living in Lala land .

Templetonstunafish · 12/09/2019 23:49

JFC @Rainbowknickers where do you work?! I hope you don't have to see them again.

lavenderbluedilly · 12/09/2019 23:52

I used to follow someone like this on FB. She put a massive rant about seeing plastic cutlery at the airport, while waiting for her long haul flight...... she didn’t see the irony Grin

SuperSara · 13/09/2019 00:05

You could challenge her on it, like a normal person might, rather than 'call her out'.

Never see that used anywhere but MN every other fucking thread

RosaWaiting · 13/09/2019 00:08

She actually posts about overpopulation when she’s got four children?

Gird yourself, if you comment, it will be people in “other countries” having too many children for her liking...

Spanielmadness · 13/09/2019 00:27

Just unfollow her. Life’s too short.......

AntiHop · 13/09/2019 00:29

Oh yes please call her out. And then post a screen shot for us!

ProhibitedRodent · 13/09/2019 00:30

Yes do it. I want to hear her justification!

Derbee · 13/09/2019 01:05

YANBU. Tell her she’s a massive wanker. I hate these holier than thou eco warrior hypocrites.

Defenbaker · 13/09/2019 01:19

She sounds like she has a massively inflated ego and is dismally lacking in self awareness. I would just avoid her, on social media and in the real world. Life's too short to bother with people like that.

RosesAndRaindrops · 13/09/2019 01:52

YABU, sounds annoying but people do their bit, surely?
Want to raise awareness but can't do everything.
Just unfollow her if she annoys you that much.

CrowBones · 13/09/2019 01:56

How do you know she eats a huge amount of beef and dairy?!
