To want to call this woman out on being a massive hypocrite

lastqueenofscotland · 12/09/2019 22:13

I’ve got a woman on my Facebook who is a family friend.
She posts a lot about saving the environment, a lot of sanctimonious memes about it, moaning about how the government don’t do anything.
But
She’s got 4 children, and is talking about a fifth (she recently posted something about the dangers of overpopulation!)
Eats a huge amount of beef and dairy
Flies several times a year, including trips that can easily be done on a train, ie from Scotland to the UK or London to Manchester.
Drives literally everywhere. Including when she can walk.

But somehow she seems to think that turning her washing machine down to 30 gives her a right to behave like a sanctimonious twit.

I don’t care really what she does/eats/how many children she has but if you are going to do all those things and somehow refuse to acknowledge how hypocritical it is surely you deserve to be called up on it...

How do you know she eats a huge amount of beef and dairy?!

Maybe she posted one time to social media and then once more so that means that she eats a huge amoun and OP know what she always does, what she eats, times she shits etc Confused Hmm

CrowBones · 13/09/2019 02:31

Which is weird, because the OP doesn't really care about what she does, so presumably wouldn't even notice...?

Durgasarrow · 13/09/2019 03:00

Everybody is a hypocrite about the environment. Pick your battles. If you attack her for the things she does wrong, she'll probably be able to think of things you do wrong. Why bother getting into it.

Hypocrisy and virtue signalling are the default setting today. You can divide the practitioners between those who are aware that their lives contradict their principles and the majority who are blissfully unaware that they speak one way and live another.

Either way, it is irksome to be told nonsense which stands up to no rational scrutiny and which contradicts the evidence by people who live selfish, wasteful, feckless lives. I really do not mind, up to a point, people being selfish, looking after their own and their family’s interests and seeking happiness, that is, after all, the human condition. But to be lectured on one’s own life by feckless hedonists is akin to being offered kale smoothies by Champagne drinkers.

YANBU - know someone who went hyper vegan (IYKWIM) and lectures on it on fb like someone converting the masses to a religion. She loves fashion though and has clothes she wears once and bins, feeds her kids 2+ packs of crisps after school because they refuse her kale 'shakes' and conveniently forgets leather is a no-no for "real" vegans unless she goes to the vegan market Hmm Highly irksome but again, just unfriend. I did and now am unaware of the bleating she puts her friends though daily - made me much happier! Smile

Scotland to the UK

Sadly, it's an error 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

On social media, yes.

Hide her from your feed. Don’t call her on it, be safe in the knowledge most folk who know her will think as you do.

I don’t get why folk feel the need to parp on, I really don’t. Fuck off.

hazell42 · 13/09/2019 07:14

So, shes a bit of a hypocrite.
Who isn't?
Unless you've never ever said one thing and done another, I would refrain from 'calling them out', which is, after all, a form of stealth boast, and learn to live and let live.
Maybe, if she says it, the actions will follow.
Maybe she is a rabid recycler.
Have you checked her bins this week?
If you plan on calling out every hypocrite on Facebook, you are going to be very busy
And friendless

RosaWaiting · 13/09/2019 09:56

"Maybe she is a rabid recycler."

that doesn't connect to what she says herself about overpopulation worries.

In terms of being a hypocrite, I don't use social media and frankly I keep my mouth shut about important things IRL because it's easier Grin

so some of us aren't saying one thing and doing another because we just shut up!

MN gives me the impression that Faceache is very annoying. Something about "my door is always open" memes came up yesterday and I felt ill! Who says that?!

Rainbowknickers · 13/09/2019 23:22

@Templetonstunafish I work at McDonald’s
I really thought I’d seen it all but guess not
I’ve never seen either of them before so hopefully they won’t be back!

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 13/09/2019 23:26

She’s got 4 children, and is talking about a fifth (she recently posted something about the dangers of overpopulation!)

Screen shot her post about overpopulation then when she announces her 5th pregnancy post the screen shot underneath it Grin but say congratulations- don’t be a complete dick Wink
