Where to sit in a taxi

Snooky84 · 12/09/2019 16:18

Just wondering where you sit in taxis when on your own.

If I sit in the back I feel a bit pretentious - drive me driver.

If I sit in the front I feel too close to driver for comfort.

Please vote
yes for front sitting
No for back sitting

Yes is supposed to be YABU? Or YANBU? Confused

Anyway, back, opposite side of the driver (kerb side).

You can't sit at the front in London cabs anyway. Grin

The front is for the 4th person in a group, although in that case it should be the leader.

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 12/09/2019 17:33

Back.

Neverexpected2 · 12/09/2019 17:34

Always back. Safer

Dont find it awkward, afterall they are getting paid to drive me.🤷‍♀️

Mammylamb · 12/09/2019 17:34

I always sit in the back. My dad’s a taxi driver. He purposely has a taxi with no passenger seat in the front. It makes him uncomfortable having someone sit beside him. In particular a young woman in case he accidentally grabs her leg when going for the gear stick

FrauHaribo · 12/09/2019 17:34

I wouldn't even sit at the front with a female driver. It's just weird.

PuppyMonkey · 12/09/2019 17:35

YABU to sit in the front.
YANBU to sit in the back.

Can anyone tell me how to vote I’m lost.Confused

MaryShelley1818 · 12/09/2019 17:36

Well I feel weird now! I always sit in the front - do driverless view this as inappropriate?

Highlights12 · 12/09/2019 17:36

Back. Sat in front once when a lot younger & he asked me out on a date. Husband sits in front & chats to driver while I sit in back which I think is strange but he doesn't.

Cohle · 12/09/2019 17:37

The back. It would never occur to me to sit in the front of a cab - I would feel like was invading the driver's space.

theemmadilemma · 12/09/2019 17:37

Always the back behind passenger seat. Safest position. That said these days in Ubers I'm not so concerned, but it's habit from younger years late at night.

Sauvignonblanket · 12/09/2019 17:40

In the back - on the left rather than behind the driver if it's just me.

heath48 · 12/09/2019 17:40

Depends on the driver,I rarely use a taxi, but I often get in the front, couldn’t give a kipper whether it is right or wrong.

SleepingStandingUp · 12/09/2019 17:41

In the back, opposite side to the driver

womaninthedark · 12/09/2019 17:41

Sit behind the driver. It's the safest place in a crash and it limits the amount of contact they can have with you.

steff13 · 12/09/2019 17:43

couldn’t give a kipper whether it is right or wrong.

Could you "give a kipper" if it makes the driver uncomfortable, or does that not matter? You certainly can't expect the driver to tell you to get out and get in the back if they don't want you up front, so they just have to deal with it.

HollyGoLoudly1 · 12/09/2019 17:45

Always the back. I'm a paying customer, not his mate that he's giving a lift to. With hackney cabs you're always sitting in the back and that's not considered rude/weird, why would it be different for minicabs. Also it's safest in terms of crashes and in terms of creepy drivers.

cleofatra · 12/09/2019 17:46

I've always sat in the back after a bad experience of sitting up front in my younger days

theemmadilemma · 12/09/2019 17:53

So there's agreement back is safest, but there's a difference on which side?

DramaAlpaca · 12/09/2019 17:54

Always in the back. As far away from the driver as possible, for safety reasons.

FrauHaribo · 12/09/2019 17:55

the most important person sits on the opposite side of the driver.

It's easily resolved if you are on your own Grin

Sgtmajormummy · 12/09/2019 18:02

I have a sneaky feeling that Dodi and not Princess Diana was sitting in “the safest seat” on their fatal journey. It was his car and his driver...
Off to check.

Sgtmajormummy · 12/09/2019 18:05

Right rear passenger seat.
So in Europe that’s the safest one.
As you were...

Ginger1982 · 12/09/2019 18:05

Always the back and usually behind the driver. I had a driver once ask me if I wanted to sit up front and talk to him properly. I obviously declined and shat myself the whole way home until I could get out.

JovialNickname · 12/09/2019 18:52

I always automatically sit in the front - I'm obviously in the minority though!!
