Where to sit in a taxi

Snooky84 · 12/09/2019 16:18

Just wondering where you sit in taxis when on your own.

If I sit in the back I feel a bit pretentious - drive me driver.

If I sit in the front I feel too close to driver for comfort.

Please vote
yes for front sitting
No for back sitting

I was always taught to sit in the back, behind the driver, as a kid. On the odd times I got a cab on my own. Back when that was acceptable.

DrFoxtrot · 12/09/2019 16:50

Yes.

I always sit in the front Blush I didn't realise that most people wouldn't!

HauntedPinecone · 12/09/2019 16:51

I never know where to sit. I don't care about sitting in the front from a 'safety' point of view but I feel like i'm encroaching on their personal by getting in the front with them; however, if I sit in the back I then feel like i'm a) implying I think they aren't trustworthy and b) acting like lady muck. I just walk Grin

RezCowgirl · 12/09/2019 16:51

Sit in the back so I don't have to talk to the driver.

perplexedagain · 12/09/2019 16:59

It's etiquette to sit in the back

Bobbyflay · 12/09/2019 16:59

Why is the back safer?

Mrsmadevans · 12/09/2019 17:00

No

SquigglePigs · 12/09/2019 17:01

I get car sick in the back so always sit in the front. Drivers never seem to mind.

Sgtmajormummy · 12/09/2019 17:02

In the back, behind the passenger seat.
In a head-on collision it’s the safest place to sit.
You can also talk to the driver and keep an eye on the meter!

TheOrigBrave · 12/09/2019 17:02

If I want to sit in the front ie if it's a long airport trip or I'm feeling chirpy then I'll ask first.

Oldraver · 12/09/2019 17:02

No. I would never sit in the front of a taxi

PumpkinP · 12/09/2019 17:03

The back, I’ve never know anyone to sit in the front.

Mummyoflittledragon · 12/09/2019 17:04

The back.

Boysey45 · 12/09/2019 17:06

The back, no way would I sit in front.
A friend of mine was groped in the front by the taxi driver and he said that there was nothing she could do about it as he hadn't raped her. She was really young and was terrified.

Bobbyflay · 12/09/2019 17:07

@sgtmajormummy I understand. I was thinking along the lone female aspect rather than passenger safety.

eddiemairswife · 12/09/2019 17:07

I sit in the front as it is easier to get in. Drivers don't seem to mind. Most of our taxi drivers have English as their 2nd language and are always friendly and helpful.

Paddington68 · 12/09/2019 17:08

No

dollydaydream114 · 12/09/2019 17:09

I always sit in the back. I'm not worried about safety, I'm just shy and prefer to be tucked away.

I've noticed that if a taxi driver gets out of the car (to help me with a suitcase or something or to poke their head into a venue to let me know they're waiting) and then open the car door for me, they always open the door in the back rather than the front.

Nottobesoldseparately · 12/09/2019 17:09

I sit in both the front and back depending on my mood, whether I like the look of the taxi driver, the time of day, where I am, what the journey is for, where I'm going, how many drinks I've had.

SuzieQ10 · 12/09/2019 17:09

Back.

NChereNNow · 12/09/2019 17:10

Always the back

coffeeandgin26 · 12/09/2019 17:10

I was always told growing up that if I had to get a taxi on my own to sit in the back in the drivers side. The reasoning behind it being that if you had one with not so good intentions, he (or she!) would be less likely to pull up and try to block you from
Opening the door with a wall because you are on the same side as them, if that makes sense? Easier to escape I suppose!

AnnonniMoose · 12/09/2019 17:11

I'm not a regular taxi user, but the few times I have used one, the driver has always either gestured to the front seat or opened the front door for me to get in. I don't think I've ever sat at the back of a taxi.

lanbro · 12/09/2019 17:11

I always sit in the front and chat to the driver, obviously in the minority!

SilverySurfer · 12/09/2019 17:11

Back of a black cab, front of a mini cab because I'm disabled and need the extra leg room. The drivers don't seem to care although I would have preferred not to see one driver who only gave the wheel the occasional nudge with a finger whilst otherwise both hands were on his worry beads Shock
