Where to sit in a taxi

Snooky84 · 12/09/2019 16:18

Just wondering where you sit in taxis when on your own.

If I sit in the back I feel a bit pretentious - drive me driver.

If I sit in the front I feel too close to driver for comfort.

Please vote
yes for front sitting
No for back sitting

On my own, always in the back. With family or friends, we have a rule that whoever sits in the front pays, so I jump in the back Grin

Freddiefox · 12/09/2019 17:12

Why is the back safer?

I was always told to sit behind the driver as it’s harder for them to turn around and grab youbas it’s more awkward

Northernsoullover · 12/09/2019 17:12

I always sit in the back.

Shadow1234 · 12/09/2019 17:12

I always sit in the front and have a general chit chat with the driver. This would be during the daytime though. (cant remember when I last tooka cab at night).

SummerSazz · 12/09/2019 17:13

The back if I don't know the driver - the front if it's Rob our local village taxi man Grin

steff13 · 12/09/2019 17:13

Well, the cab driver is your driver, because you're paying them to drive you.

I can't imagine sitting in the front if there was room in the back. I would feel awkward as the passenger, and I would feel a bit unsafe as the driver, I think.

MerryBerryCheesecake · 12/09/2019 17:14

I sit in the back, behind the passenger seat. No heads smashing together in the event of an accident.

Also, if I were the taxi driver, I wouldn't want a passenger up front unless necessary due to capacity requirements as it seems overly familiar to me.

I sit in the back on the opposite side of the driver ( not immediately behind them).

kissmelittleass · 12/09/2019 17:17

Back for me always, had a terrible experience once with a cab driver in London. So glad I was in the back he locked the doors

MyNameIsIrrelevant · 12/09/2019 17:18

Just sit in the back - it's safer! 🙄

HolidayHelper · 12/09/2019 17:18

I always sit in the front, after asking if they're ok with it. I get travel sick in the back. I've had some great conversations with taxi drivers before. And some awkward silences with others...

In the back. I’d feel like I was invading the driver’s space

StrictlyComeMarie · 12/09/2019 17:21

If I sat in the front ^^

Whatisthisfuckery · 12/09/2019 17:23

I don’t like taking taxis but sometimes I have to. I always sit int the back. I’ve had taxi drivers try to grope me when I was younger when sat in the front. Also I get the awkward ‘what’s your name? Are you married?’ It creeps me out so I sit as far away as possible.

crosspelican · 12/09/2019 17:24

Overfamiliar or patronising to sit in the front seat.

Back only.

PassMeAnotherCoffee · 12/09/2019 17:24

I always sit in the back when I'm on my own. I don't want to be groped, thank you. Most of my solo cab journeys are very short and I have no problems chatting to the driver from sitting behind the passenger seat.

It's not pretentious in any way. What a strange hang up to have.

Expressedways · 12/09/2019 17:25

On the odd occasion that I’ve been in a group and someone has had to sit up front, the driver usually has to move personal stuff and old London black cabs didn’t even have front passenger seats; I think the expectation is that passengers travel in the back. And you’re safer in the back. I’m really surprised that anyone would get in the front when traveling solo.

MrsEricBana · 12/09/2019 17:26

Blimey! I always sit in the front.

FrauHaribo · 12/09/2019 17:27

Sit at the back, opposite side of the driver.

Easy.

Westfacing · 12/09/2019 17:28

Back, behind the passenger seat. Why would you sit at the front unless there are a few of you?

2018SoFarSoGreat · 12/09/2019 17:29

why would you go in the front? that seems so odd to me. That's their work space, and I would only invade it if there were too many of us to fit in the back.

The back. It is not pretentious at all - we ARE in fact being driven. That's the point.

Sitting in the back when being driven by a friend or family member would be weird. Someone being paid to drive you? Not weird.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/09/2019 17:31

In the front and chat to them, I didn't know it wasn't normal to do this.
I've never had a bad experience with any.

steff13 · 12/09/2019 17:31

I’ve had taxi drivers try to grope me when I was younger when sat in the front.

I was on a grand jury a few years ago, and one of the cases was a taxi driver who had forced a passenger to perform oral sex on him. She sat in the front of the taxi, and he pulled over and forced her head down into his lap. We voted to indict.
