Obese and pudding without sugar

Hi, I suppose my aibu is aibu to ask what people have as a sweet evening snack / pudding, that does not contain sugar or sweetners? I'm so bored of just having fruit or fruit with nut butter. I just can't think of anything else - except plain greek yog and fruit. Any suggestions? I've cut out sugar as I'm very overweight (have ptsd and used eating as a coping strategy, have never been overweight before). Any suggestions v v much appreciated! Thanks!

I am about 2 stone underweight (BMI 16.8) and about 50% of my diet is fruit
I have 3-4 apples a day
Quantities of blueberries, raspberries and blackberries
Melon
Kiwi, tangerines.....

It’s heaven

lovemenorca · 10/09/2019 21:48

Well in that case your clothes should be hanging off?!

GPatz · 10/09/2019 21:50

The medal table is to your left for all those falling over yourselves to tell everyone how you don't eat pudding.

I'd try the hot chocolate idea OP.

lovemenorca 2 stone underweight isn’t heaven it’s an illness

lovemenorca · 10/09/2019 21:56

You’re right - divorce, estrangement, stress and very active plus coming from very skinny family - combination has taken me from underweight to very underweight

But I have always eaten loads and loads and loads of fruit.

Not all fruit is created equal when it comes to sugar content. I generally stick to Michael Mosley's rule of thumb which is that if it grows in this country, it's fine (e.g. apples, pears, most berries) but if it's a tropical fruit (e.g. pineapple, mango), it's not.

OP, the thing is that if it doesn't have sugar or sweetener in it, it won't be sweet! I understand the emotional need for something sweet right now, so I would be looking at the options with sweeteners in them, but I'd also recommend that in the longer term, you try to cut those down as well, so that you recalibrate your sense of sweetness and lose the craving for it.

I didn’t mock.

You are were very passionately putting forward a diet I think sounds like a load of crock
I found it intriguing that a few days ago you were bemoaning your shape and weight

However you have clarified that you are losing weight

There was no mocking. Simply questioning.

Fasting and eating low carb is scientifically proven to help @lovemenorca people with diabetes are told to fast. The problem is continuous snacking. If we cut out sugar and reduce carbs then our bodies do not feel the need to snack. If we fast for part of the day then the odd pudding here and there won't be a problem.

What you will find is that the more you learn to fast the more you realise how easy it is you don't become more hungry, you become less so. Smile

I just completed a 72hr water fast and it was incredibly easy. And the weight loss was nothing compared to the mental clarity and other health benefits it gave me. I now follow OMAD which I feel gives the best results.

Are you still there op?

I have a fibre one bar or a dark chocolate rice cake. Both sugary but calorie controlled. I'm trying to wean myself off altogether...
My sweet tooth is the bane of my life...

Skyejuly · 11/09/2019 07:03

I used to indulge constantly on sweet food. I have to say fasting on 5.2 has cut thos right down. I dont even crave it as much.

I would love to see a link to evidence that the body processes the two 'completely differently' because I don't think that's true. My knowledge is limited though so would genuinely like to see something that shows I'm wrong. As I said, what goes with the sugar is important particularly fibre. But to pretend that fruit sugar is somehow an almost entirely different substance from other sugars is a ticket to staying fat.

Study after study after study has shown that the higher the whole fruit consumption the faster the weight loss and the more likely you are to maintain a healthy weight. It's not known exactly why but the conclusion drawn is that assumptions about sugar being sugar in terms of bodily effect are entirely wrong. Just like for decades all the low fat nonsense is looking like being very wrong. Do not conflate whole fruit with processed sugar because that is actually the ticket to staying fat. We are meant to like sweet. Our best, first food (breastmilk) is incredibly sweet and packed with sugar. How come breastmilk doesn't lead to obese babies everywhere? How come breastfed children are less likely to struggle with obesity? All sugars are not equal. that sort of reductive reasoning is as far from science as it gets. Telling people who like sweet to avoid fruit sets them up to fail. Saying have at it, with fruit makes them far, far more likely to succeed.

And while I hate to be 'that person' I eat all the fruit, 10-12 portions a day wouldn't be unusual. I have a 25" waist, a 6-pack, visible muscle definition all over, a BMI of 21 and a body fat percentage of 22% which as a 40 year old woman puts me in a category close to top-level athlete. I'm never going to live a sweet free life. Sweet is fucking yummy. I have fruit based breakfast most mornings, fruit for snacks, fruit after dinner and about 80% of the time, a fruit based evening meal. Knowing that fruit sugar is somehow an almost entirely different substance from other sugars has a ticket to having a fitter healthier body than the majority.

LazyFace · 12/09/2019 22:02

Alittle, please can you share some of your meal ideas? I really struggle eating fruit. I can handle it in shakes but not in cold weather and I'm more of a vegetable person.
