Obese and pudding without sugar

Hi, I suppose my aibu is aibu to ask what people have as a sweet evening snack / pudding, that does not contain sugar or sweetners? I'm so bored of just having fruit or fruit with nut butter. I just can't think of anything else - except plain greek yog and fruit. Any suggestions? I've cut out sugar as I'm very overweight (have ptsd and used eating as a coping strategy, have never been overweight before). Any suggestions v v much appreciated! Thanks!

I think you need to break the pudding habit OP. Mean that in the nicest possible way.

The only people who get pudding every day are either about 90 or still go to primary school.

Cut down to every other day (sugar free jellies are sweet), have fruit, then cut it down further.

Or have absolutely nothing at all for a week. Then have fruit. It'll taste all the sweeter for it.

Thanks very much! Some great suggestions and I hadn't thought of cream, that will jazz up the fruit! I know I don't need pudding but emotionally I need it right now. Hopefully over time, combined with therapy and no sugar I won't feel the need for it but right now it's giving me a level of stability. I don't know if that makes sense but hey ho! Thanks again for all the great suggestions!

Try dehydrating slices of fruit, or freezing things like grapes and pomegranate seeds.

It may also help if you reduce the salt content of your evening meal as a salty meal will likely have you unintentionally craving something sweet.

Make your own sorbet?
Just use sweet fruits, dont add sugar, but add a little honey to sweeten it up.

Or frozen yoghurt. Again made by yourself so you can skip the sugar and sweeteners.

Sugar free jelly! You can put berries and yogurt in it too to mix it up.

I would try and break the daily sugar habit tbh.

If you don’t want sugar or artificial sweeteners how about having a look at the baby/toddler food area in supermarket. Can recommend fruit bakes and the oat cakes. They sweeten foods with masses of apples pears and grapes.

I'm really not that into pudding, but if I do have it, I want it every day instantly. So I just don't have it at all. I usually have a glass of wine or de-caff tea.

What about a low-cal hot chocolate?

Greek yoghurt with fruit and nuts. I do have honey though. I feel like I have had something sweet but healthy.

Baked Bramley apples with dried fruit and cinnamon is good if you really feel like a 'proper' pudding. Or roast peaches or plums. Ideally with some single cream though!

Otherwise, instead of pudding get into the habit of making yourself a really nice cup of tea or coffee, possibly accompanied by just one or two squares or dark chocolate, or a couple of dates.

Personally I'd avoid rubbish like sugar-free jelly. It has no nutritional value.

Baked apples or figs, with some plain yoghurt or a dollop of marscopone & honey

Couple of squares of dark chocolate (I like the raspberry or orange ones from Lidl)

Pistachios are my current obsession!

Or, try retraining your pallette. I've massively reduced my sweet tooth, and now look forward to some crackers with Brie cheese and chutney.

I'm a healthy weight but we have pudding, albeit yogurts or similar, every evening. I think it more depends on whether or not you have a sweet tooth. Regardless, the OP hasn't asked for your judgement- she's asked for ideas.

do Keto and one of my dessert options is whipped double cream with grated dark choc (at least 80%) and maybe some blueberries chucked in. V filling; you don't need much!

I 2nd this - it is delicious. You need to cut your carbs to wean yourself off sugars. You will find it very hard otherwise. Eat more fat and moderate protein and lower your carbs. You only crave something sweet because of insulin resistance in all honesty.

My treat after tea occasionally is a few squares of dark chocolate with a nice cup of coffee. Why don't you try eating a few nuts instead with some dried fruit for a sweet kick?
