^What it is really.
Are you a mum/dad? Do you go by your first name? Or are you a pack leader?
We recently got a pet dog, and my kids think it's weird that the dog 'calls' dh and I mum and dad.

I can't bear mummy and daddy, partly I never used these terms with my parents, and partly because we don't have children and I don't want to encourage anyone else referring to me as the mother of my precious dogs. They are precious to me but they aren't my children. I sometimes refer to my oh as "the big puppy", we refer to us as a whole as a pack. We're pretty much stay with Dog type references!

Fingermoose · 09/09/2019 21:30

My full name has four syllables and my cat definitely tries to call me by my Sunday name when he wants something. He uses the same intonation as DH when he's shouting at me up the stairs.

The children are a little chirrupy 'brrrt' noise which I like to think are pet names, and DH is 'WAAAAHH' at feeding time and ignored the other 23.9 hours of the day.

AgeLikeWine · 09/09/2019 21:33

Our nags refer to us as “the staff”.

What else would you call someone who brushes your hair, prepares and serves your meals, cleans & tidies your bedroom and shovels your shit?

Bouncer4me · 09/09/2019 21:44

Destrier pharaoh Caesar or spud as we call him vies with our 4 month old baby to get my attention which can be entertaining not. It’s normally Mum MUM Mum MUM in the same kind of tone of voice from the both of them.

weebarra · 09/09/2019 21:49

Guinea pigs - "she who does the feeding and hasn't eaten us yet"
DH is "he who mows the lawn and gives us grass"
They are such nervy critters that I think they think we'll just turn one day and hunt them.

LondonCrone · 09/09/2019 21:59

I'm mummy (even though I'm American, I have to admit that they're very British moggies), my ex was daddy. They're two boy cats we lovingly refer to as the Hedge Twins -- brothers born stray in a hedge and elevated to the heights of kitty luxury, aka a pretty standard flat with two adoring parents and a seemingly unlimited supply of Felix packets!

One of my great anxieties about dating again is what my new dp would be to them. Stepdaddy? Seems a weird concept for a cat!

hellinabreadbasket · 09/09/2019 22:01

Pretty sure I’m mummymummymummymummy to my rather needy doggy.

Willow2017 · 09/09/2019 22:01

Guinea Pig- 'That big sucker who falls for my frantic squeaking in the morning after small sucker has fed me or whenever she comes in from work and thinks I am starving to death so will get me something nice'
Manipulative lil sod😀

woodymiller · 09/09/2019 23:16

DH & I are dad & mum to our dog. The DC are his hoomins.

BuildBuildings · 09/09/2019 23:27

Mummy and daddy. Although they're cats so I think I'm probably projecting a bit more love and affection than is actually present! They seem to love us though Grin

LiveInAHidingPlace · 09/09/2019 23:27

Mummy and Daddy

newnameeeforthis · 09/09/2019 23:29

Mummy & Daddy to the Dog.
Woman by the very grumpy African Pygmy Hedgehog- he was abused by his previous owners and we rescued him so I'll forgive him

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/09/2019 23:30

Thee" dogs call us Mammy and Daddy.

The cats refer to us as "that one with the can opener" and "the baldy one' I suspect.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 09/09/2019 23:33

We ate grandma and grandad

< colour drains from face > Shock

IHaveBrilloHair · 09/09/2019 23:35

I'm either Mummy, Num-Num, or Ganny, depending on which cat is speaking to me.
They call DD, Nee Nee.
We are completely normal, honestGrin

Rachelover60 · 09/09/2019 23:37

Mum.
I don't know what they call me behind my back.

GodDammitAmy · 09/09/2019 23:41

You.
As in "Where are you going? I come!"
"You're home! I missed you!"
"Did you move? Is it dinner time?"

DP calls his mum their grandma, which is really cute. But he's not their daddy, I think he's just that bloke. "That bloke's here again so I need to bark at him"

ILearnedItFromABook · 10/09/2019 00:10

Our dogs call us by our first names, which they definitely do know: If one of us is out of the room and the other one mentions his/her name, the dogs know to go find the person in the rest of the house/expect them coming home/etc.

Collectively, we are known as "The Peoples". Grin

Rachelover60 · 10/09/2019 11:30

I had a cat who could say, "No" and did so several times at the vet.

(Also had a cat that did impersonations, not verbally but in behaviour and posing - but that's another story.)

KurriKurri · 10/09/2019 11:35

My dog calls me Mummy unless he is telling me an exciting story about finding a feather in the garden, then he comes in shouting 'Mum! Mum! Mum!'

maddiemookins16mum · 10/09/2019 11:36

The hoomin servants.

KurriKurri · 10/09/2019 11:37

My sister had a cat who said 'Mert' quite clearly - he said it whenever you spoke to him and it was said in a tone of complete contempt.

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 10/09/2019 11:39

I am "The Boss". DDog1 even bought me a "best boss ever" mug. He's a smart hound.

AntiStuff · 10/09/2019 11:40

Our cat is a needy ginger twat who sounds a bit like Eric Cartman, 'mummeh' and 'daddeh' are his preferred titles for us.

BeepBeeeep · 10/09/2019 11:42

Him, her, he, she to my dog.
Though my dog probably calls me a fucking tight bitch when I won't let her eat treats till she bursts. 😃
