I find people's needs for updates uncomfortable

You know when posters hound an OP for updates days after the original post? It's so weird, like they're there, waiting and salivating for more gossip under the guise of 'being worried [they're] ok'.

Aibu?

The posters who don't get this frankly idiot-proof nuance are probably missing their fix of Jeremy Kyle because that's the same mentality; gleeful OMG'ing at somebody crestfallen, disappointed and anguished. When I read fallacy's first post, those threads/posters are what I had in mind

Yes indeed. It reminds me of that FB mentality of “ you ok hun, inbox me babe”

Thank you for posting, surfer

Bit harsh OP finding another post to pick up on and highlight your point, that poster hasn’t actually done anything wrong

fallacy · 09/09/2019 19:47

I did wonder about that, but then people are always saying how it's a public forum etc etc. And it was just an example. I'll get it removed.

Yes it’s a public forum but it’s easy enough to understand your point without a screen grab and a scrawl across it ;)

donquixotedelamancha · 09/09/2019 19:50

Nope opinion definitely not changed!

Thanks for the update OP.

fallacy · 09/09/2019 19:51

@ShirleyPhallus, I conceded! What more do you want. I've reported my post!

The example you gave was pretty tame compared to some I’ve seen on here OP.

Literally begging for the OP to come back and update, place marking and crap like “so worried/excited for you please update” then when there isn’t one “ where’s the OP!!! “

This is an interesting article about 'disappearing' in the age of the smartphone/SM. I'm a similar age to the writer and it's made me wonder if the 'need' for updates and the whole 'always on' nature of communication is a generational thing or a personality thing.

“What more do you want?”

There must be a dramatic film quote that would be a suitable response!
