To say that squeezey bottle mayonnaise is bloody pointless?

Or am I missing some secret trick? It's a great idea in theory and for the first half of the bottle it's fab but after that it's a total bloody faff and you end up wasting at least a third of the bottle because it won't come out! I'm going back to glass jars, better for the environment too ......Angry

Yep, completely agree. The shape and design of the bottle prevents it from coming out once it's about half full.

NannyR · 07/09/2019 13:38

They drive me mad. They have them at work and it's nigh on impossible to get the (fairly substantial) last bit out, plus they are plastic. The glass jars are better all round, and usually cheaper per gram too.

nikkylou · 07/09/2019 13:38

It's not just me? I thought I was doing something wrong....

EmAreSea · 07/09/2019 13:38

YANBU they need to make them like toothpaste tubes so you can squeeze out every last drop!

Justmuddlingalong · 07/09/2019 13:40

I bought it once. Never again. Life's too short to fight with mayonnaise.

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 07/09/2019 13:41

Just unscrew the lid and scrape out the last few teaspoons?

I prefer squeezy bottles - the mayo is exposed to less air so stays fresher longer and never goes all weird and clear if its a bit old.

OwnerofanAngryCat · 07/09/2019 13:43

If you hold the base of the bottle and swing it round in large circles (with lid closed obvs) centrifugal force will help you out.

PhilCornwall1 · 07/09/2019 13:45

YABU. They make great fart sounds when they are getting empty and my youngest has a good laugh when he uses it. Smile

Apart from that, they are bloody pointless.

Tidypidy · 07/09/2019 13:46

Yes! YANBU! Squeezy marmite is the same.

ShippingNews · 07/09/2019 13:47

Store it upside down ?

littletinybubbles · 07/09/2019 13:51

How long do you keep them for. I find after the 3 months is up they’re still 3/4 full. Should I ignore the date?

iknowimcoming · 07/09/2019 19:18

Hurrah! It's not just me! Grin

OP posts:
Happygilmorelove · 07/09/2019 20:03

Yes it's soooo bad. Can't get half of it out. Squeeze marmite was the same!

MoltoAgitato · 07/09/2019 20:05

In Switzerland, mayonnaise, mustard and other condiments come in toothpaste tubes. Bloody fab.

CTRL · 07/09/2019 20:09

Are we talking about the Heinz mayo ?

I thought they squeeze bottles are great. No cross contamination and I store it on the lid so yet to have the problem with unreachable mayo in the bottom.

dementedpixie · 07/09/2019 20:10

Hellmans is particularly bad so I use own make or heinz

AwdBovril · 07/09/2019 20:12

I wish they'd go back to glass bottles for a lot of things, so much more environmentally friendly.

HeronLanyon · 07/09/2019 20:13

100% agree and I’ve pretty much given up buying them.
Random ketchup squirts if I have the temerity not to use it for a few weeks even when shaken.
Mayo - always wastes the last inch or so as no way of getting it out.

Have reverted to glass bottles - what a relief !

Cheeserton · 07/09/2019 20:16

Heinz is TERRIBLE 'Mayonnaise',. Hellmans a little better. Disgusting stuff. Learn to make your own properly and you'll never regret it, or buy shit Mayonnaise again.

YANBU about the bottles.

minniemoll · 07/09/2019 20:16

I loathe the squeezy bottles, if I have the misfortune to end up with one I end up cutting them open to get the dregs out. I buy glass jars wherever possible.

Ohyesiam · 07/09/2019 20:19

We do squeezy for coeliac non contamination, and it’s always fine except for a teaspoonful at the end. Are you lot not storing it on it’s lid?

CTRL · 07/09/2019 20:29

I love Heinz !

Rowgtfc72 · 07/09/2019 20:31

Agree. We've gone back to glass jars. Dd is not happy.

Charlieandthechocolatecake · 07/09/2019 20:34

When you're halfway, suck in a bit of water. Give it a good shake and then rotate it vigorously holding the top of the bottle. DO NOT attempt this near your TV (thank God for insurance!)

BMW6 · 07/09/2019 20:41

STORE THE BOTTLE UPSIDE DOWN.

Gravity will cause the mayo to drop to the cap end.........
