Lighthearted - to be called a “manky mare” for mopping first then vacuuming

My sister is staying at my flat for a few days while she is getting hers painted. While sharing the cleaning the other day she screeched I was a manky mare for mopping my wood floor and bathroom before vacuuming. I very calmly explained I prefer to loosen any dirt and debris then vacuum but she said it’s not how it’s done

We then called our mum to ask her who is right but her response was she was so happy we’re fighting over cleaning and not men and hung up on us. My sister then re-mopped my floor.

I know it’s not what people do but is it really that unreasonable to mop first??

In my house this morning it was hoover, mop.

Hoover again (bloody dog), hoover again (bloody cat) then mop. And hoover again for luck.

I do have a fancy new shark cordless so I actually don't mind but don't tell the bloody animals.

And it's scone with lots of dried fruit, cream then jam.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 05/09/2019 19:59

I hoover, then mop, then hoover again

Me too Raphael. Unless I'm being proper manky (6 days out of 7). Then I just use the cordless vacuum.

Hederex · 05/09/2019 20:15

Sorry, I'm with your sister. 😂

firesong · 05/09/2019 20:15

Any cleaning impresses me, whichever way around. I hate mopping and hoovering!

Aprillygirl · 05/09/2019 20:25

Your mum is my hero.
Your sister is a star.
You indeed are a manky mare Grin

IceCreamBrain · 05/09/2019 20:35

You're right about scones - well the cream first and no raisins parts.

You're wrong for not rhyming scone with cone and for mopping first.

Hth Grin

Blobby10 · 05/09/2019 20:39

I've just mopped my kitchen floor - I will hoover up the bits when its dry Blush

ThisIsAllaMooPoint can I join you in the naughty corner please?!!! Grin

TheFaerieQueene · 05/09/2019 20:41

You are right that it is Sc on. You are wrong about everything else. So yes, you are a manky mare. 🤣

bengalcat · 05/09/2019 20:46

I’m clearly a manky mare as I either mop OR vacuum/ brush up the pet hairs on my wooden floors .

Oysterbabe · 05/09/2019 20:49

Hoover and jam first.

If you put cream on a warm scone it just melts into it and makes it soggy. Plus the cream is usually the thing being showcased, it needs to be on top so that it is the dominant flavour.

Amazonita · 05/09/2019 20:55

YANBU at all.

My floors are never particularly dirty as I hoover most days, sweep up obvious debris as I see it and we are a shoeless house.

I mop twice a week, with boiling water from the kettle so it dries quickly, and prefer to do it first then have a quick go over with the hoover to pick up anything that's left. Totally fine and I ain't no manky mare either!

lifecouldbeadream · 05/09/2019 21:00

Get a Kaarcher Floor cleaner and then you can do both at once and have done with it. Grin

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 05/09/2019 23:24

I sweep everything into a pile, then hoover up the pile then mop, I would only hoover after mopping if it was a few days later and couldn't be bothered to mop!

Scones.., cream first (because it's like the butter) then jam.

emilybrontescorsett · 06/09/2019 07:26

I’m with the poster who said scone rhymes with cone.
Done of you must have filthy floors to gave to mop, vacuum, mop.

QOD · 06/09/2019 07:46

We are scone twins @ThisIsAllaMooPoint but you hoover or sweep THEN mop. Weirdo 😉

Aannnaa · 06/09/2019 07:56

I have all wood floors because I have cats, small manky children and a service dog - i hoover, mop and then hoover again when dry - i get the loose bits, mop to disinfect and then a once over with the hoover to get floating hairs and fluff - isn't that what everyone does?

Aannnaa · 06/09/2019 07:57

emilybrontescorsett

it's scone, not scoone

quietly rages

Pikapikachooo · 06/09/2019 07:59

Your sister is right !

Icantthinkofanynewnames · 06/09/2019 08:03

I agree with you OP. I do the same.

AmIThough · 06/09/2019 08:13

You're a manky mare Grin

wonderingsoul · 06/09/2019 08:22

Hoover mop Hoover

Obviously

Grafittiqueen · 06/09/2019 08:23

Why would you mop first?! That's just weird. All the fluff and hair just end up sticking to the floor if you mop first.

Pukkatea · 06/09/2019 08:29

Hoover then mop

And obviously cream then jam. Do you jam first people put the butter on last on your sandwiches too?

Eeyoreshouse · 06/09/2019 08:32

Yurgh sorry but you will just be swirling dust and hairs and bits about in water! Definitely absolutely categorically hoover first, then mop!

JuneBerryMine · 06/09/2019 08:37

You have to hoover first otherwise there's loads of manky wet 'stuff' on the floor the hoover would have lifted.
