wtrurly · 04/09/2019 12:05

and if so, what did you win?

I have never won anything and I have decided to enter more competitions to up my chances. Winning the tiniest thing would probably make my day.

Also, i'm procrastinating :)

I've won loads of stuff over the years, all sorts of things from holidays to Portugal and Australia, hotel breaks, tvs, €3000 of prize bonds which keep on winning, concert and festival tickets, tickets to various sporting events, clothes and shoes, alcohol.

Jellykat · 04/09/2019 22:55

All i've ever won is a Blue Peter badge and a toy badger..

flumposie · 04/09/2019 23:01

Won a wooden Gazebo from a competition in House Beautiful years ago.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 04/09/2019 23:04

I won a cruise on Holland America's Ryndam ... although obviously free, they should really have been paying me to stay on the thing

LittleMissMe99 · 04/09/2019 23:16

Yes lots! £1000 Amazon vouchers, £1000 shopping vouchers, iPads, TVs, all my white goods, clothes, toys, make up, you name it! Winning competitions has paid for the last three Christmas'. It's a fantastic hobby!

lakeswimmer · 04/09/2019 23:24

In 1983 I won a £50 voucher for the Freemans Catalogue. I was 13 and you could buy quite a lot with that at the time. It was very exciting getting to choose whatever I wanted. My choices included a selection of sweatshirts and a double pack of legwarmers Grin

Get Along Gang lunchbox c1987

lemonpiezz · 05/09/2019 00:07

I'm probably what you'd call a serial comper. I've won hundreds of competitions over the years, however, it's a tiny percentage of the amount I enter.
I've won tiny runner up prizes worth a few pence, to a holiday in Hawaii worth thousands.
Over the last few years there seems to have been an influx of people doing competitions and more companies use facebook/twitter/instagram now, and there are loads of scam competitions on there, It's a lot harder to win these days. I used to average a couple of wins a week. Now I'm lucky if I win once every couple of months.

BeneathTheMist · 05/09/2019 00:15

for those of you who won holidays, where did you enter?

Rainbowknickers · 05/09/2019 00:34

I won star of the month at work-£30 worth of Primark vouchers
Also won 5 sticks of Blackpool rock in a raffle-I binned them as they must have been at least 5 years old-people just kept re-donating them

Never won anything else-my brother wins in every one he does

BinkyBaa · 05/09/2019 00:41

I used to win almost every raffle in school, from a giant teddy bear to the schools massive 8ft xmas tree one year, which we ultimately didn't take home because it wouldn't have fit in the house.

In hindsight it seems a bit iffy. But I've never really been certain if other kids just didn't bother getting tickets (some were free, some were still only pennies), or wether there was some kind of conspiracy where only the upper sets raffle tickets were entered.

GreyMarble · 05/09/2019 00:47

Accidentally won tickets to see Nickelback!

PenguinsRabbits · 05/09/2019 00:51

I won a Tiswas t-shirt and a radio station mug as a child. Few £50 premium bond prizes.

Once at work I got bored and entered the efinancialNews predict the price of these assets next week for first time and I won and a magnum of champagne was delivered to my work Blush

Won £100 on MN competition in vouchers. Rarely enter anything.

flyingspaghettimonster · 05/09/2019 01:23

I won plenty as a kid because out mum entered everything, she used to buy stacks of postcards in the bookshop to enter stuff. I also won a few writing contests and placed second in an art one.

Worst prizes were the terry pretchett truckers dvd set, the magic eye video and book (I could never see them) and the year's supply of Thornton's ice cream. God we hated ice cream by the end of that year. I'm still not a fan 25 years later.

Best prizes were a game boy in my crunchie bar wrapper... mym said I could only eat it if I promised to win. And I promised, opened it and won! Crazy. The very best was a sewing machine worth $1,900. Just for liking something on facebook. I loved that machine. Oh, and a lego castle from funday times when I drew a picture of a castle with rapunzel hanging her smalls on a line between the towers 😂

DramaAlpaca · 05/09/2019 01:35

I won a Puffin Club design a poster competition sometime in the 70s The prize was lots of art materials & my poster displayed somewhere.

My real claim to fame is that I was Babyworld's Baby of the Month sometime back in the 60s. My DM is still very proud of that one - my picture was in a magazine!! Grin

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 05/09/2019 06:17

I entered my bf in. Mr. scruffy competition in the local paper circa 1988 and he won £150 of clothes from local dept store (can't remember which one) the paper did before and after photos.

Won chance to sing vocals on stage with a rhythm and blues band in a pub in a nearby town - that was fun

Won family ticket to a weekend music festival - we kept going for a number of years afterwards with the kids

HeronLanyon · 05/09/2019 06:22

Moped when too young to drive it. The wait was worth it - had a lot of fun with it.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoes · 05/09/2019 06:26

A Caribbean holiday, and a cruise, and a weekend break, and 2 sets of flights, and various tickets for shows, films, then some random prizes.
I’m not Some mad comping person / I just enter stuff when I see it...

sandgrown · 05/09/2019 06:47

I won a weekend in London on a local radio station. On a Winter holiday in Marjorca I won a sweatshirt that I wore almost every day as the weather was quite cold and we were not prepared.
At a holiday camp I won a general knowledge quiz and the chance to take part in the grand final for big prizes. The final was at a park 5 minutes walk from home but it was a free family weekend so we went anyway and popped home every day to feed the cat! I didn't win a prize in the final but the children had a great time.

Hereshopingforimprovement · 05/09/2019 06:59

A £50 voucher for a Thai restaurant and 2 free burger and chips at my local pub.

itsme · 05/09/2019 07:03

I won a photo shoot, tickets to the baby show, and a box of chocolates. The box of chocolates were well received!

Pumpkinsalad · 05/09/2019 07:10

My mum used to spend ages doing comps and she was bed bound for a long time. She won lots of good and lots of rubbish things.

I was just thinking recently I should try and enter more. I'm not generally a winner. I won a Facebook comp a couple of years ago but I knew I'd win. It was my wedding cake supplier, I'd just spent £100 with her on my cake. She then had a comp to win a £20 treat hamper. Obviously I don't know for definite but I've always thought Facebook comps were rigged and I entered fully expecting to win as I knew I was the only wedding cake she'd done that summer

WhoEatsPopTarts · 05/09/2019 07:17

I won a Nintendo Wi when they just came out from a Mumsnet competition. I used to collect DS from nursery and we’d play a game or two of Raman’s Raving Rabids together before collecting my dds from school. He 16 now and still remembers that time fondly, mind you he’s also seriously into gaming!

Shelovesmilktray · 05/09/2019 07:20

I won a white convertible golf gti ( it was the 80’s). My own car had completely packed up a couple of months earlier and, having just bought first house with partner, we had no money for a replacement so we were thrilled. We kept it for the summer then sold it and bought an older golf and spent some money on our house. Was brilliant 😊
I used to enter lots of competitions and had some smaller wins (cases of wine, suitcases, a packet of savoury rice) but never anything approaching a car.
I still have my winning letter.
Good luck OP 😊

MsHopey · 05/09/2019 07:21

I've won £250s worth of protein products, shakes, bars, merchandise (it was for DH).
Some pitch perfect merchandise through their Facebook on the release of the 3rd film. Only 10 people entered 😂 I got the 3 disk set, tee shirts, jumpers, tote bag, backpack, etc.
I only really wanted the dvd.
I've won some hair serum on the products instagram.
In the 90s I got a fiver in a packet of walkers crisps but gave it to my younger sister as a bribe to not tell our DM I'd hit her too hard in a fight 😬 I was 7.
I don't think I've ever won anything requiring skills, which is quite depressing.
I've won lots in Ebay 🤷🏻‍♀️

I enter them when I see them but never actively look for competitions.
I also don't enter ones for things I don't need or want, it seems selfish. I see lots for girls toys but I have 2 boys so I don't bother.
