To opt out of water park rides?

I've name changed for this as it could be outing.

We're currently on holiday in Spain with two young teenage DCs and today we have a highly anticipated and very expensive trip to a huge and spectacular water park.

The trouble is I hate them and have always suggested DH either goes alone with the DCs or I come but just sunbathe and swim instead while we're there (I'm early 50s).

DH has always insisted I get involved but this year I've put on weight (I'm still upper reaches of a size 12) and last night my DD commented that while I still look lovely in clothes, in a bikini I'm different, and made huge type gestures with her arms, to which everyone fell about laughing.

I'm therefore dreading more than normal the idea of wandering around this park and standing in queues in a bikini all day. Would I be unreasonable and selfish to go along but not go on the rides and just sunbathe and swim etc?

Your daughter was a brat, but it was your husband who ruined it. If there was a chance in hell you could be talked into it before, you know how have your excuse not to be.

”You do know that a lovely family holiday does not usually involve one of the family members being laughed at, forced to do things she doesn’t want to do and wanting on several occasions to fly home early or go and stay in a hotel?”

This.

Don't let you DH get away with this shit and especially not in front of your DD - clearly she is learning fast that it's ok behaviour. How will she feel in 20 years time when her partner does it to her?

People who are referring to DD as a 'brat' and 'vile' should have a word with themselves. Yes she was rude but there's no need for that shit.

I'm a 16 and I wore a bikini on holiday! Sod what others think if you are comfy do it if not don't. You won't see the other guests there again!

I think you are very sensible not going on any of the rides actually there have been some horrific injuries over the summer that people have sustained in these waterparks.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 07/09/2019 08:01

Are you really 16, @Mummyrowland?Grin

Oh, haha, just saw my mistake.😂. As you were...

I'm not keen on this either. I would do the more tame rides but not in s bikini (we all know where the bottoms end up on the faster rides!).

I decided to opt out of the whole beach look thing after having my second child this year and now wear a swimsuit with a skirt on it. I am much happier walking around feeling less self conscious now.

Just don't go if you don't want to. Tell your daughter why too. She probably isn't, but I hope she isn't like that around her larger friends on the beach.

Several points
Your dh cannot force you to do anything.
He does not respect you.
Your dd is very rude.
Your whole family are rude and disrespectful.
Do not go on water slides in a bikini wear a good swimsuit.
Stand up for yourself and show your kids and indeed your dh that your opinion matters.
Sit and sunbathe.
Why can't your dh go alone with the dcs?

Whole family dynamics sound off.
