Am frittering away my afternoon re-watching Buffy, which I used to love. And as I’m watching, I’m realising that I am seeing a man who is 250 years old climbing in the window of a 16 year old girl in the middle of the night, and I’m thinking that’s pretty grim. She has teddy bears on her bed.

I’ve always thought this too OP. As I get older, I couldn’t ever find a 17yr old attractive, actually it makes my stomach turn a bit thinking about it. At 250 yrs old, surely a 17 yr old girl is a baby in his eyes.

“In other questions, how do vampires smoke when they don't breathe?”

I’ve been asking that since it first aired... can’t give CPR because no breath, but can smoke?...

SRK16 · 03/09/2019 16:03

@TheStakeIsNotThePower feel the erection question is v important! Must be magic!

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 03/09/2019 16:03

I mentioned Lorne in another thread earlier today, as he died very young from heart disease brought on by an untreated dental infection sad

It is so sad. I loved his character and the comic relief of the scenes in the club with demons singing karaoke.

Juells · 03/09/2019 16:05

I got it wrong - he was suggested for the role by a friend of the producer who'd seen him walking his dog.

I've read somewhere (years ago) that Nicholas Brendon (Xander) was originally supposed to be the male star of the show. He didn't have the oomph that either Angel or Spike had though.

Bunglefromrainbow · 03/09/2019 16:05

This is now my favourite MN post.

Personally I do think YABU, he was a good guy. He didn't rush her into anything and was only really contacting her because she's the Slayer. He wasn't all over Willow or Cordelia.

Unfortunately working together sometimes leads to feelings when we know they shouldn't be there, but they developed and I feel he was largely a gentleman, certainly by Vampire standards.

Yes the legal age of consent in the US is 18 so technically he is a rapist but like I mentioned before, she's the Slayer, she's a strong independent woman even in series 1 who has experience way beyond her years.

I think you should cut him some slack :)

Ravenblack · 03/09/2019 16:05

Hmmmm, tricky one. Angel was 250 years old, so probably didn't notice 'age' but did notice a very attractive young woman. 17 does seem young, but is not 'under-age' IYSWIM. And she was an attractive young woman...

In reality, a 28 y.o. man and a 17 y.o. is a bit 'off.' Not awful, but just a bit off IMO.

David B was a bit of all right though eh? Grin

herculepoirot2 · 03/09/2019 16:07

And really, it’s all about Anthony Head.

He's so mopey. Very annoying.

TheStakeIsNotThePower · 03/09/2019 16:10

Yes yes it really is about Anthony Head. Love him. And I really would. I have his music on my car drive to work playlist. Dh rips the piss but I care not.

herculepoirot2 · 03/09/2019 16:11

And I really would

You’d have to beat me off with a stake first.

Remember though, when Angel was alive, it was normal for girls to married off and have a couple of kids by the time they were 16.

So I guess, in his eyes, old habits die hard

Maria53 · 03/09/2019 16:13

What age was Angel when he turned into a vampire? Anyway I see where you are coming from and admit I never gave it much thought. I will say I think this is part of why Angel leaves Buffy behind - he does state the age difference is a problem when the relationship is breaking down.

Agree with PPs, was always a Spike fan myself!! I also met and had my photo taken with Tom Lenk who played Andrew last week - complete coincidence, he was very nice.

LannieDuck · 03/09/2019 16:13

I always thought he was pretty decent about it - he did get a bit carried away (and with hindsight it it was a bit icky), but Joyce pointed out it wasn't quite right and he ended it. He even moved cities to end it (and to start his own spin-off).

herculepoirot2 · 03/09/2019 16:13

Soubriquet

Never thought of it like that!

It’s like MSCL - realising Danes was 12/13 and Leto was 21 when they filmed it was a bit disturbing. And then I rewatched it as an adult and realised he’s an absolute arsehole with a beautiful face... but what a face. Sigh.

BareBelliedSneetch · 03/09/2019 16:14

I never got the Angel love. Dark and broody just doesn’t do it for me.

Giles however, and Spike, well, grrrrrrrrrrr. I’d have either of them. Or both. I’m not fussy Grin

herculepoirot2 · 03/09/2019 16:15

He was 26.

OP posts:
Stressedout10 · 03/09/2019 16:15

Ooh yes Giles loved him remember the coffee ads

herculepoirot2 · 03/09/2019 16:16

Magenta82 · 03/09/2019 16:17

I was always a massive Spike fan.

I have to admit to an embarrassing obsession with Buffy and Angel fanfic when I was in my late teens/early 20s, Spike/Xander was my favourite.

Soubriquet · 03/09/2019 16:18

That’s how I look at it

It’s easy to think in modern standards, but the vampires weren’t modern so therefore has grown up with their rules and expectations

Magenta82 · 03/09/2019 16:18

Giles/Spike was a close second

ThanosSavedMe · 03/09/2019 16:18

Give me Spike over Angel any day!
