Prince Harry saying "we can all do better" has really irked me- aibu?! He has every want and need satisfied while the majority of us and trying to do right by the environment whilst making ends meet. He is becoming very sanctimonious!

Chavvy? That’s not a very nice expression, is it?

“Spinning for M&H.”

No need. They do stupid things- they can sink. They get pilloried for doing things everyone else in the RF does with impunity- it needs pointing out.

LaMarschallin · 09/09/2019 10:55

Oh, come on! If lining Meghan up with the Queen and Kate in the same “leaving their children for extended periods” camp isn’t spin then I don’t know what is!

I can't continue this argument; it's getting too close to the "somebody on the internet is wrong" cartoon.

To conclude: "spinning" implies a purposeful use of information to try to influence opinion.
I can't influence opinion in my own house!

But to imply I was trying to here is rude and inaccurate.
And all the silly yellow grinning faces in the world won't change my opinion on that.
I don't even know what that "grin" was for.
"Just joshing"? "Isn't she silly?"?

I don't know if everybody here has an agenda. I'm sure everybody had opinions. I'm allowed mine unless they break any rules.

Gosh NoTheresa I hope you never meet an upper class person irl...

And you assume I haven’t?! Most amusing.

There is no debate possible with the ardent ones. It’s all about pointless point scoring. 🥺

No they don’t, or if they do maybe the other members of the royal family have the brains not to flaunt their extravagance in our faces, like a latter day Princess Margaret. Nor do other members preach to us all on such a big scale. So you can hardly blame people for protesting about them. People are allowed to slate individual members of the RF without having to bring others into it If needs must.

coolandcalm17 · 09/09/2019 17:42

And if they do get pilloried for doing things other members do with impunity why should that absolve them.

LaurieMarlow · 09/09/2019 17:44

I don’t think there’s any different in how they ‘wear’ it, but a big difference in how it’s reported in the press.

As for the preaching. Charles has done plenty of that.

LaurieMarlow · 09/09/2019 17:46

It doesn’t and no one said it did.

But you’ve got to wonder about those people who never noticed/complained before and only got vocal when Meghan started doing it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/09/2019 17:50

I wouldn't quite say that; as mentioned, Charles has been doing it for decades and doesn't even restrict himself to environmental issues

Architecture, farming, historic restoration, town planning, medicine, transport, gardening, employment issues - you name it, he seems to consider himself an expert in it, even though he's never held a job in his entire life

Now this one really is wierd. How has she flaunted her extravagance? Wearing posh frocks? Having an expensive house? Just like Kate does?

Oh yes. And when she goes to state dinners wearing rubies the size of paperback books........

BertrandRussell · 09/09/2019 18:06

Mind you, I did like it when the Queen wore those rubies at Trump.....

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 09/09/2019 18:39

How has she flaunted her extravagance?

Where do you want to start?

Wearing a £56,000 dress for an engagement photo.

Extravagant very public baby shower - the predominent purpose of which is to give baby gifts to an expectant mother to help defray costs so is totally unnecessary when you have everything money could buy yourself - in NY in a hotel designed to be papped. This could have been arranged privately in someones home.

£2.4 million refurbishing a cotttage. You could build several cottages for that.

Rich woman wears expensive frock
(We don’t know the price of Kate’s couture clothes)
Rich woman’s friends throw her an expensive party.
Royal Estate renovate house- at about a third of the cost of the house done up for Kate and William.........

LaurieMarlow · 09/09/2019 18:44

Kate’s wedding gown was a quarter of a million, more than twice the price of Meghan’s.

Kate / Wills spent 4 million doing up their kensington Palace apartments.

Does anyone think the rest of the royals are strangers to expensive presents, fancy hotels or friends private jets (i.e. the shower)?

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 09/09/2019 18:53

I referred specifically to the engagement photograph in answer to your question about flaunting extravagance.

A deliberate choice to wear a dress purely for posing for a picture. We do know the price of Kate's equivalent dress. One was a Reiss dress off the peg, the other was a £56,000 gown.
On any view choosing a dress of that price to wear for a one off photo that you know will be publicly circulated is flaunting extravagance IMHO.

I think it’s entirely appropriate that more money was spent on Kate’s wedding dress than Meghan’s, given that William is heir to the throne and W&K’s wedding was therefore a far more high profile event. Don’t you?

TellItLikeItReallyIs · 09/09/2019 18:57

I think you are missing the point. The issue was flaunting not gifts on their own. The shower was done in a very public way. It could have been done privately. It wasn't.
