Prince Harry - AIBU?

barniee · 03/09/2019 14:13

Prince Harry saying "we can all do better" has really irked me- aibu?! He has every want and need satisfied while the majority of us and trying to do right by the environment whilst making ends meet. He is becoming very sanctimonious!

Sunshine Sachs represents Harvey Weinstein

And the late Michael Jackson.

LucilleBluth · 07/09/2019 09:50

What this is, is the death of the expert and the rise of the knows nothing celebrity. Give me someone inspiring who knows what they're talking about for god's sake.

He's a prick, so is his wife. How anyone can defend them is beyond me.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/09/2019 10:32

The use of a Hollywood PR firm makes me wonder yet again if their real intention is to move to the US. It might even explain their increasingly poor choices, as in "see ... the UK was SO awful to us that we just had to get away"

Unfortunately, just as I can't imagine Meghan being happy here long term, I can't quite see Harry lasting in the US either

IcedPurple · 07/09/2019 10:39

I was always sceptical about the moving to America line of thought, but now I'm not so sure. There's no doubt at all that they are much, much more interested in appealing to the American rather than the British audience - even Archie's birth announcement was timed perfectly for the American breakfast shows. And you could be right in saying they're deliberately trying to provoke people here and get a bad reaction so as to be able to say "Look how snobby and racist those Brits are! We have no choice but to move to LA to escape it all!"

Meghan might thrive in such an environment, but Harry, who appears to have absolutely no idea just how much he's been coddled and protected by the royal family and the - mostly - compliant media, would be in for a rude shock if he had to hustle in the crowded American celebrity marketplace alongside younger, fresher reality stars and the like.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/09/2019 10:50

That's exactly the point, IcedPurple; on the whole America functions as a meritocracy, and I just can't see someone from Harry's background hacking it. No doubt it would all seem wonderful to start with, but once the fickle beam of attention moved onto the next shiny new thing I'm not so sure

MissEliza · 07/09/2019 13:09

@IcedPurple I think you're right. Aside from being a prince, H is pleasant but unremarkable.

EvenPhilip · 07/09/2019 13:25

Why did Elton pay the carbon offset donation and not Harry?
All that privilege and they still get to keep their hands firmly in their pockets.

Ritascornershop · 07/09/2019 13:46

Either he and his wife stop flying on what feels like a weekly basis or shush. Flying to watch a tennis match, are you fucking kidding me? Is the telly not working?

As individuals, the two biggest things we can do to reduce our carbon footprint are 1) stop flying and 2) stop eating animals. Harry has done neither.

I do not see a news for them to fly if they’re that keen on the environment - trains and ships still exist last time I checked. They’re not Medicine Sans Frontiers volunteers, they’re not needed across the globe at short notice. (The rest of you can have air travel holidays as far as I’m concerned as you’re not lecturing the rest of us not flying weekly).

Personally I can’t afford air travel more than once a decade at most.

Ritascornershop · 07/09/2019 13:48

I knew I should have previewed to edit! Should have read “I do not see a need for them to fly”, not “a news for them to fly”.

MissEliza · 07/09/2019 14:53

Is the telly not working? GrinGrinGrin

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 07/09/2019 17:10

I was shocked to read about the American PR firm, and also that DoS has kept hold of her agent and business manager from the US (for her children's book)

It is a disaster waiting to happen. How on earth can an American PR firm understand the relatively conservative remits and protocols that the Royals have to adhere to?

There's also that dodgy travalyst 'charity' how is that appropriate for their Sussex foundation?

As for settling in LA. That just means celebs and others will have open access to H, without the palace PR team to act as a restraint, although apparently he's not been listening to them - they told him not to fly to Amsterdam and he went anyway.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 07/09/2019 17:30

It does, yes, but it's entirely possible he thinks it won't matter, and that the passing popularity and money arising from being with a bunch of celebs will be enough

And maybe for some it would, but I can't quite see a cossetted member of our RF - no matter how dim - being one of them

Ginmel · 07/09/2019 17:31

He's an utter twit and probably always has been. The only difference now is that he doesn't have Kensington Palace working overtime to save him from public stupidity. Don't get me wrong. Meghan hasn't helped but he's as bad as her.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 07/09/2019 17:47

Too right @ginmel They seem to be a perfect match for each other

@puzzledandpissedoff

And maybe for some it would, but I can't quite see a cossetted member of our RF - no matter how dim - being one of them

No neither can I, but I do also think H is like his Uncle and needs M so regardless of whether he's privately happy or no he'll go along with it. Didn't exactly advise her not to do the Vogue edit did he?

He'll be very exposed if he goes to LA and more dependent upon M to navigate his way. As you say, it's not his territory it's hers.

Daisypie · 07/09/2019 22:52

Interesting seeing Meghan supporting a us player over a young Canadian. What happened to supporting Commonwealth youth?

Well - she is wrapped in a life of extreme luxury and privilege in order to represent the Queen.
Anyway, Bianca still won.

jessicawessica · 07/09/2019 23:17

I have given them 2 years marriage tops so I think next year M will suddenly start to spend a lot of time in US. The palace will make excuses about the time they spend apart, blah, blah, blah.
Both total hypocrites...do as I say, not what I do, etc.

NoTheresa · 07/09/2019 23:25

Williams lost. Her people do not approve of the extra pressure she has to cope with when Meghan crosses the Pond for one of her flying visits.

His hypocrisy and that of his wife absolutely disgust me.
She is as someone else has pointed out nothing but a two bit actress and he and their son are nowhere near the throne. They absolutely do not need to take private jets everywhere at taxpayers expense. I would go a step further and say that they also should not have taxpayer funding for anything. We should not be funding the cost of 24 hour protection for them or their over the top house renovations or her designer clothing habit. If they really hate the public eye so much and can't bear to fly commercial near the plebs and hate the media so much then here is a thought, why the fuck can't they just bugger off and be private citizens without expecting the taxpayers to pick up the tab. Their absurd insistence on maintaining their "privacy" whilst still acting like spoilt Hollywood celebrities and courting media attention is ridiculous.

I begin to wonder what is going on...it seems as if he is being cut off from his friends and family; and an attempt is being made to exclude outsiders. Emotional abuse?

Ritascornershop · 08/09/2019 03:16

Joyful, I’m quite sure Serena Williams can struggle through a game without MM at courtside. As far as I’m concerned there are two issues here: 1) it’s hypocritical to bang on about climate change while flying on jets more often than the rest of us wash our socks and 2) all this jetting about on pleasure visits looks bad. For the percentage of the Commonwealth who are in favour of retaining the Royal Family (& I’m not bothered about William and Kate getting in at some point), well, even for Royalists or that’s okay, bigger fish to fry types, we don’t want it shoved in our faces constantly just how bloody rich and privileged some people are. No-one’s lifestyle should include flying across the Atlantic to watch a tennis match, it’s fucking outrageous they even consider it. I had to think long and hard over whether we could treat ourselves to fish and chips tonight after a long week at work. Jetting off to watch tennis. Ffs.
