Some Monday cheer.

Mine are- nobody locks their doors ever, even people who dislike each other will help each other and when you go out to the shop or post office you'll see at least 5 people to have a good chat to.

It's so beautiful it makes me happy every time I go into town or come back from a trip away

You can cycle everywhere

Amazing local baker, coffee roastery, veggie cafe etc

Orpy40 · 02/09/2019 19:35

I love that we are 25 mins on the train from central London but drive 20 mins and we can be in the countryside. We have country parks and National Trust to walk and take the kids but we have some nice places to eat and drink as well without going too far. We have good school primary and secondary and although I've made some lovely friends.

There are plenty of downsides if you drive 10 mins the wrong way but we will forget about those!!

Tadiefarl · 02/09/2019 19:37

Mine is a village. It’s a 3 minute walk to my train station. 30 minutes to our capital city. 5 minutes to a beach/green area. Good neighbours.

MissB83 · 02/09/2019 19:40

Great parks with lovely play areas. Lots of attractive Victorian architecture. The people are friendly. Quite a nice town centre with lovely river walks and useful shops, it's quite lively compared to a lot of UK high streets with lots of independent shops. There's a lot for DS and I to get up to together: swimming pools, cinemas, libraries etc. And it's near my family, best of all!

eaturveggies · 02/09/2019 19:46

Live on the welsh coast. From my house it's a 5 minute walk to the beach. It's such a friendly little town too, and whilst we get a few visitors in the summer, it never gets too busy.

Shockers · 02/09/2019 19:50

I live two minutes walk from a Booths and an Aldi; there’s a river and a canal for lovely walks; my neighbours are wonderful; I know lots of people who are great; the town is full of flowers, which are tended by volunteers.

Thanks for this thread- I felt disloyal just listing the negatives on the other one! Smile

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 02/09/2019 19:58

I live in a village that has a real sense of community, you always bump into people you know. In summer/autumn people give away the spare fruit from their gardens, everyone hunts for a lost pet etc.

My elderly neighbours are really friendly to my toddler, and everyone supports local activities and enterprises, like the fundraisers run by the scouts/brownies, the school fair etc.

Funghi · 02/09/2019 21:03

LaurieFairyCake that sounds like my dream. Where about in Zone 3?

Ruminthebath · 03/09/2019 07:47

@ItIsWhatItIsInnit thanks!

ArtichokeAardvark · 03/09/2019 07:58

My pocket of South London: village atmosphere but within 10mins of central London. Masses of playgroups and childcentric cafes in walking distance. Lots of green space that almost makes up for the fact I live in a teeny flat with no garden. Pre-DS, I loved how many amazing bars and restaurants are on my doorstep. Big Waitrose Grin.

Absoluteunit · 03/09/2019 08:08

I live in a tiny supposed "town" (it's more like a large village) by an estuary. I love that everyone says hello and I love the beautiful view of water and fields. Love the smell of the mud! And less than half an hour from a big town if I need to go shopping

longwayoff · 03/09/2019 08:09

Live in Hampshire and its coming up to my favourite time of year. There are hundreds of trees and wooded hills with sweeping views, so Autumn is stunning. A huge -200 years plus? - copper beech near me means I'll be sweeping up leaves for a few weeks but it's worth it. Spectacular.

Bluesheep8 · 03/09/2019 08:14

Stunning countryside and walks, approx 30 mins from Manchester by train, lovely village centre with a small supermarket which opens late. Complete silence at night apart from the sheep.

Bluesheep8 · 03/09/2019 08:17

Wondering if peccary installing about somewhere nearby.....

Bluesheep8 · 03/09/2019 08:23

TALKING ABOUT!!!

AlohaMolly · 03/09/2019 08:30

I live in a small village in north wales that is a massive tourist hotspot.

We have two small shops for ‘essentials’ and several local independent cafes that cater for my different moods Grin

Without having to get in my car, or even walk particularly far, I can take DS to the lake, lagoons, forest, a museum, a steam train, a mountain and waterfalls.

I love it here!

Verily1 · 03/09/2019 08:37

As a driver I love that I can be anywhere in 20 mins (except rush hour).
Kids in great schools, houses still affordable, nearby independent shops and a choice of out of town malls. Lots of bookshops.
Access to countryside/ coast in 40m/ hour with complete solitude if wanted.
But great nightlife on doorstep if feeling sociable.
Friendly people but anonymity of city which I like. (Don’t like claustrophobic villages)
Liberal minded populace - lots of political activism.

FLOrenze · 03/09/2019 09:01

I love where I live for the amazing transport links. 5 minutes from the underground, and 1 minute from the bus stop . Excellent, punctual train and bus services means I can be in the local towns in 20 minutes and in Central London in 30. My first class GP practice is just a short walk away. Added to this I am 10 minute walk away from the Forest and also have very large Country Park, practically on the doorstep.I have lived here for 45 years and never want to move.

It is all subjective though. I hear so many people moaning about the Area. We have every nationality in our Area and while I find this a joy, it causes resentment in some of the locals.

IceIceCoffee · 04/09/2019 17:03

@AlohaMolly I don’t want to out it in case you don’t want but I used to live where you do and I miss it so much

LaurieFairyCake · 04/09/2019 17:21

Funghi

Blackheath Standard. It's lovely and 5 minutes to Greenwich Park/Blackheath (with even more shops/restaurants)

Funghi · 04/09/2019 18:41

Thank you Laurie. It sounds perfect!

As does FLOrenze’s location.

AlohaMolly · 04/09/2019 19:22

@IceIceCoffee North Wales? Bottom of a mountain?

Mousetolioness · 04/09/2019 20:01

It's possible to cycle a long way without going on a road. Decent walks. Lovely park, lake, and Arts centre with theatre close to my home.

IceIceCoffee · 04/09/2019 21:10

@AlohaMolly yes that’s the one

Shalom23 · 04/09/2019 21:43

I live in a village on the east coast of Ireland. Caring community, the sea, good people. Returned after 24 years in London. I also loved London.
