Some Monday cheer.

Mine are- nobody locks their doors ever, even people who dislike each other will help each other and when you go out to the shop or post office you'll see at least 5 people to have a good chat to.

OP posts:

Also the castle! The park and all the events that take place there. The shops and cafes. The history. The three theatres. The river. The nearness of the sea.

flyingspaghettimonster · 02/09/2019 18:31

I like my next door neighbours. I like the downtown area if we could ever afford to go there, same for the zoo, the aquarium and the penitentiary. I used to like the fact we have a free outdoor pool a block from our house, but that yad to close this season hecause some godawful family beat the crap out of a 19 year old female lifeguard for daring to ask their kid to stop swearing. This is why we can't have noce things.

I pretty much detest everything else about it. The sugar tax, the extra ciry tax that never gets spent on the roads which are basically pot holes held together with trash. It really is the areshole of America. The streets are strewn with trash, half the buildings are crumbling, it doesn't feel safe to walk anywhere, the schools are largely crap and there is a non-small risk of getting shot just walking to the corner store (guy 2 doors down was killed doing that a year or so ago). I guess I failed at trying to only think of the nice.

evilharpy · 02/09/2019 18:32

There isn't much crime. Struggling to think of anything else. Lots of people would love it here (small town next to the Cotswolds) but it's just not for me.

Jammysod · 02/09/2019 18:34

I live in a pretty crappy town on the outskirts of Manchester, but I love that we're a stones throw from some lovely Yorkshire/Lancashire villages and countryside. It's 30mins on the tram to Manchester & all my family is here.

gobbynorthernbird · 02/09/2019 18:35

I think @dollydaydream114 is practically my neighbour!

I love how much Manchester has going on culturally, and the diversity. All while being a proper, straight-talking, friendly Northern city. Big enough to have lots happening, small enough that is isn't overwhelming.

I even like the Metrolink, for the most part.

100PercentThatBitch · 02/09/2019 18:37

Despite hating where I live, and slating it on the other thread, Waitrose is my corner shop. Grin

Livpool · 02/09/2019 18:42

People are generally really friendly. I feel safe where I live

Good transport links and we get a lot of tourists and students so it feels diverse

HazelBite · 02/09/2019 18:43

Watford ( Hertfordshire moved from London in my late teens)
I live in a house surrounded by green, I back onto woodland, but within 10 mins I can be on the M25.
It must be one of the most convenient places to live in the SE 20 mins on train to Central London, served by london underground, easy access to airports and M1. Good schools, good shops in town.
I think its the convenience of the place that I like.

Peccary · 02/09/2019 18:44

That it's on the edge of the Peak District but only 30 minutes by train to Manchester ( where I lived for most of my adult life) high street is improving but the traffic is awful. For the most part I like it.

Avocuddles · 02/09/2019 18:46

Lots of local independent shops and restaurants (and even a nano brewery!) within ten minutes walk of my house. Only 15 mins on the train to get to the vibrant city centre (Leeds), but drive five mins in the other direction and you're in beautiful countryside.

RezCowgirl · 02/09/2019 18:47

The transport links to get out of the city are pretty good and its right in the middle so easy to get to anywhere else in the country.

karigan · 02/09/2019 18:50

I live within 3 mins drive of a beautiful beach. I go and collect little bits of sea glass there on a saturday morning with my DD.

vintagesewingmachine · 02/09/2019 18:51

I have an uninterrupted South Coast view from my bedroom window and we are 10 minutes walk from the beach. There is a wealth of history round here, from dinosaurs, Romans and Vikings, to English Civil War, Smugglers, genteel Victorians and WW2. The town itself is a little tired but if you look up, some of the buildings are wonderful. I am also 15 minutes drive from the county town where there are located not one, but two branches of Waitrose 😁😁😁

BloodyhellMartha · 02/09/2019 18:52

5 minute walk to a deserted beach. No one locks doors. People know each other.

Ronsters · 02/09/2019 18:54

People may be a bit rough and ready but are generally polite and helpful. Its nearby some beautiful open countryside and moorland. It feels quite rural but the road and motorway access is good.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 02/09/2019 18:55

Being able to go running on the beach and see curlews, oyster catchers, herons and seals.

AJPTaylor · 02/09/2019 19:01

I can walk to lovely pubs and restaurants. It's small e.g. someone posts a picture of a dog they have found. Within 10 mins someone will name it, say who the owner is and offer to collect it!
Brill state non selective schools. Sea is 15 mins away. London an hour. One of the best doctors surgery in the country.

icontrolthebullshitnow · 02/09/2019 19:02

The sea, the beach and the Iron Men. The local currency and the bars and restaurants. The giant red cranes at the dock that you can see for miles

LynetteScavo · 02/09/2019 19:04

Commutable to London (under 1 hour)

Good schools

Good leisure centre and sports facilities,

Ikea close by

Good parks

Excellent motorway network

Reasonable prices (houses and other things)

BUT we are very far from a beach Sad

Apolloanddaphne · 02/09/2019 19:08

Beautiful ancient university town by the sea.

Loads of lovely shops, bars and restaurants. It can get busy n the summer with tourists but they bring in a lot of money and sustain the local economy.

Great places to walk my dog.

It has a very rural feel but i can be in the nearest small city in 30 minutes.

ilovesooty · 02/09/2019 19:10

My neighbours are nice and I have friends nearby. Loads of reliable tradespeople around and great cafes and restaurants. My milkman lives next door. Reasonable transport links.

notangelinajolie · 02/09/2019 19:23

I love my town.
I can walk to Waitrose Smile
In fact there is nothing we can't walk to including major hospital, doctor, dentist, state of the art minor injuries, lots of outstanding Grammar schools, buzzing town centre with lots of lovely independent shops, theatres, cinema, restaurants, wine bars, gyms, open countryside - even the airport is within walking distance. The only thing that isn't within walking distance is the nearest city which is 10 miles away but with a direct tram link and tram stop minutes from my house it's more than easy to get to.

elQuintoConyo · 02/09/2019 19:28

The sea. The Roman ruins. The schools. The people. The culture - local festival starts soon, a 2 week party! Barcelona is an hour or so away by train, going with DS this Friday.

There are the usual chain shops (Primark, Zara, Game) but it's also full of independent shops and coffee shops, not a single NeroStarCostabucks Grin

We can walk for miles on the beach, one nearby us totally unspoilt. I can walk uo work in 20 minutes through the pretty centre. I wouldn't live anywhere else.

gingajewel · 02/09/2019 19:30

@marjorie2607 I think you live the other side of town to me, I live in the ‘rougher’ part I suppose, and the only positive I can think of is my favourite Indian restaurant and Bentley bridge is fairly decent!!

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 02/09/2019 19:31

We live in a suburb of a large German city. Plenty of shops and a market nearby, a lovely park with a river, lots of green space and a beer garden. City centre half an hour away with galleries, museums, concerts and festivals. Alps and lakes can be done as a day trip and public transport is plentiful and excellent. We know our neighbours and chat away to them over the fence.
