Some Monday cheer.

Mine are- nobody locks their doors ever, even people who dislike each other will help each other and when you go out to the shop or post office you'll see at least 5 people to have a good chat to.

@ItIsWhatItIsInnit can I ask what town you live in? Clicked on this thread because we want to move away from the particular bit of London we live in to somewhere we can walk to restaurants/cafes/parks - but it’s so hard to know where to start!

Hoolihan · 02/09/2019 16:23

BEACH. Proximity to London & Brighton. That's it. 😂

YouSayPotatoesISayVodka · 02/09/2019 16:27

I love that we’re 10 minutes on the train from a major city one way and 20 minutes in the other direction to the seaside. Everything local is easy to get to by walking, mostly uphill, but that’s no bad thing because I think I’m losing weight since moving here a couple of months ago.

Zoidbergonthehalfshell · 02/09/2019 16:42

The nature reserve at the top of the road. It's lovely.

EmeraldShamrock · 02/09/2019 16:47

Good regular transport , five well known supermarkets are walking distance, one of the main hospital's are local, nice local parks.
Lucky as I don't drive.

EmeraldShamrock · 02/09/2019 16:49

My ideal place to live would be by the beach.

squashyhat · 02/09/2019 16:52

The citizens pride themselves on being quirky to the point of bonkers sometimes (apart from me of course) but it makes for a good laugh on the community Facebook page. In the middle of lovely countryside and an hour to both London and the sea.

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 02/09/2019 16:54

The beaches

sittingonacornflake · 02/09/2019 17:00

Definitely the sea

yellowellies · 02/09/2019 17:09

15 minutes walk to the centre of a major city, 15 minutes drive to the country side. Woods and parks within easy walking distance. Ikea (!) and a huge shopping centre. Museums, coffee shops and restaurants. Could be better if it was nearer the sea!

gingajewel · 02/09/2019 17:20

Wolverhampton and it’s a shame that I can’t think of of anything nice here as I do like living here and have lived here all my life, so I suppose it’s the feeling of familiarity!! We are land locked, I don’t live near any nice places to go for walks and the town centre is dying!! Help me out fellow wulfrunians!!

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 02/09/2019 17:27

@Ruminthebath Hitchin, I absolutely love it, it's hard to think of downsides apart from house prices (but then again, still much cheaper than London)

Littlechocola · 02/09/2019 17:28

There’s nothing here. It’s amazing.

nononever · 02/09/2019 17:30

Five minutes to the sea, short drive to the Cairngorm National Park. Lots of castles not too far away.

BogglesGoggles · 02/09/2019 17:31

It’s small, quiet, pretty and 100% walkable.

notso · 02/09/2019 17:34

I can walk 15 minutes in one direction and be in the town centre. I can walk 10 minutes in the opposite direction and be in the woods.
Town centre is very run down but people are really trying to regenerate. There's some brilliant independent food and drink places.

DuchessOfDukeStreet · 02/09/2019 17:35

We're surrounded by orchards, beautiful places to walk the dogs, and bright stars in an unlit sky at night - but we can be in Cardiff/Birmingham/Bristol in about an hour, if we need city things.

House prices aren't insane locally and there's a Waitrose.

Iamblossom · 02/09/2019 17:39

One hour from London on the train, station a five minute drive.

50 minute drive to beautiful beaches.

2 minute walk and you are in beautiful rolling farmland and woods.

Can walk to a very nice pub, a good shop, and a Chinese takeaway in 2 minutes. Ditto school bus stop.

Quiet and relatively crime free.

I love where I live.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/09/2019 17:41

I live in the 1960's.

Within 5 minutes of my house there is:

A greengrocers, butchers, DIY shop, bakers with cafe, LIBRARY, supermarket, flower shop, beauty salon, dry cleaners, launderette, 3 newsagents, chippy, Indian restaurant, Chinese restaurant, Italian cafe, greasy spoon cafe, patisserie cafe, 3 charity shops, lovely women's clothes shop, health food shop, pet shop.

I never have to leave my 'village' (in Zone 3, London).

There are retail parks and huge supermarkets 5 minutes drive away - I never go. I shop mostly within 5 minute walk of my house.

haverhill · 02/09/2019 17:42

Canal, beautiful churches, several big parks, a busy arts centre. (Oxfordshire).

Stickybeaksid · 02/09/2019 17:57

Live in a suburb of Dublin. 30 seconds from the sea front with a real village feel. 20 mins to the city centre for work and the schools are great but most of all I love the fact I can go down to the shop or get a coffee and I know everyone.

user1465335180 · 02/09/2019 18:20

"Karenbokaren:", you don't live in the Scilly Isles do you? Only place I know where no one cares to lock their front door- absolutely loved it there. I live in Fokestone, lovely seaside, lots of creative things happening in town and countryside close at hand

SeaViewBliss · 02/09/2019 18:25

BEACH. Proximity to London & Brighton. That's it. 😂

Me too. (Waves in case we’re neighbours)

marjorie2607 · 02/09/2019 18:26

Another Wulfrunian here. Nothing good to say about the city centre two miles away, but I'm within walking distance of a Waitrose. From my house I have views of the Shropshire hills and a badger visited my garden last night. If it wasn't for the window I could have touched it. I love seeing wildlife so close to the built up area.

Woodlandwitch · 02/09/2019 18:28

I’m near London but far enough out to be surrounded by national trust countryside locations

The neighbours are (mainly) lovely.

The best thing of all is that DH and I both work so close to home that despite DH being full time we still feel like we have a lot of evening time together and the lifestyle is so important to us
