To think there's no suitable suncream for my son??

Hey, my son has the most sensitive skin and it's becoming a nightmare to find any suncream for him. All the high street ones bring him out in a rash and he just gets so sore. We're off on holiday in a couple of weeks and I'm panicking that he's going to burn if I don't find anything suitable soon.

Ultrasun

bluechameleon · 30/08/2019 17:29

My son used to have bad eczema and we used the Organic Children one.

Child's farm? Best thing I've found for my daughter's sensitive skin.

MissChananderlerbong · 30/08/2019 17:41

We use Toddle, it's a new vegan brand that's been AMAZING for my son's skin. Even child farm didnt work.

It's not chemical so the sun cream sits on the skin 👍

First post because I thought I could help.

I use sunsense on my husband, he is allergic to everything, including aloe Vera. The 50+ worked amazingly well trekking through the Egyptian desert last year. The face one also has a slight skin tint in it for additional protection.

I get it off Amazon. It looks expensive but it spreads well and you need very little.

We use sunsense which worked for a couple of years with DS who has eczema but it’s just started bringing him out in a rash may be worth a shot if you haven’t tried it

Jinxii · 30/08/2019 17:46

Try Jason, I have skin that's prone to dermatitis and it's very gentle.

TakeAChanseyOnMe · 30/08/2019 17:47

How old is he?

Either Ultrasun or just make sure he’s always covered with sun suits and a hat.

hipslikecinderella · 30/08/2019 17:48

Definitely get Altruist.

Dermatology nurse recommended it to me - you can only buy on amazon and its v cheap.

A dermatologist is on a mission to eradicate skin cancer and basically it's a physical sun block (titanium dioxide) not a chemical one. Nothing else added, it's been amazing for me and all my kids.

Abibranning · 30/08/2019 17:48

You can also use sunsuits, rash vests, hats etc all good to protect from the sun.

KB197 · 30/08/2019 17:48

I think Child’s farm do a suncream now?

Failing that, I’m pretty sure you can get suncream for extra sensitive skin on prescription? I mean stuff you can’t buy over the counter. Sure I’ve read that somewhere.

spinn · 30/08/2019 17:48

When we really have to use it we use ambre solaire clear spray as it isn't a thick cream so is less reactive to the kids skin.

Most of the time though we don't use it and exercise safe sun practices instead so hats with brims or neck covering, light cotton shirts, longish shorts (sun suits in water), in and out of shade all the time and not out in it at peak time.

lynzmb · 30/08/2019 17:48

I've just ordered Toddle toddlebornwild.com/shop/sun-and-wind-balm/ - it's vegan and suitable for sensitive skin. Really excited to try it!

LilacIris · 30/08/2019 17:52

Another vote for Toddle. It really is brilliant for my two preschoolers and baby. I’m not someone who is usually stays loyal to particular brands but this one is great. I even put it on my cat’s pink nose to protect her.

GingerRogers84 · 30/08/2019 17:52

Another vote for Toddle Sun & Wind balm here! It's natural and great for children's young skin.

TriJo · 30/08/2019 17:53

I liked Toddle too - with a ginger 3 year old I like a good physical sunscreen that's kind to skin, and it being vegan is a bonus for me too.

skinoncustard · 30/08/2019 17:53

Try greenpeople.co.uk . My daughter tried loads of different makes for my granddaughter ( at great cost) until she found this one. You can get a sample pack of satchets for £1-50 .

FlippertyJibbit · 30/08/2019 17:54

I'm seriously considering Toddle! I've been reading up on it and really like the fact it has no horrible chemicals like Oxybenzone

laelti · 30/08/2019 17:55

Another vote for toddle! Heard great things from a friend who tried it.
Not tried child's farm suncream but the moisturizer actually didn't particularly help my son's ezcema!

TheFutureIs · 30/08/2019 17:56

Altruist is amazing! Used it all summer, one or 2 applications each day, no burn or heat rash

FirenzeArno · 30/08/2019 17:58

DB(10) was the same with most brands and DM always gets him the Piz Buin Sensitive range now and he's had no issues since

valentinoandme · 30/08/2019 17:59

Green People was the only one that my DS didn't react to when he was little. Not cheap but lasts ages. As an added bonus, it's not sticky at all and it's the only one I've found that doesn't stain clothing!

Bubblysqueak · 30/08/2019 18:00

Moo goo suncream is a godsend. It is zinc based with no chemicals. They list all ingredients on their website and state why they are used. It is the only suncream my ds can use as he has eczema and extremely sensitive skin.

Bubblysqueak · 30/08/2019 18:01

Forgot to say it's an Australian online company.

RamblingFar · 30/08/2019 18:01

Can you keep him out of the sun instead? I try not to wear any if I can avoid doing so. Depending on where you are going on holiday he might not need any if you can keep him in the shade/indoors at least half the time between 11 and 3.

Obviously won't work in all countries and some you can burn a lot later than 3pm.
