To think there's no suitable suncream for my son??

Hey, my son has the most sensitive skin and it's becoming a nightmare to find any suncream for him. All the high street ones bring him out in a rash and he just gets so sore. We're off on holiday in a couple of weeks and I'm panicking that he's going to burn if I don't find anything suitable soon.

I've experienced similar and use P20 in factor 50 or Ambre Solaire factor 50 for fair, sensitive and sun intolerant skin.

It may be worth exploring if the issue is more with sun than the sun cream. I found a lot of my issues decreased when I bought summer clothing with UV protection fabric. Suncream was only part of the picture.

I use Altrust spf 50 on my 5 year old and organic Sear Butter. Shea butter repairs skin damage including Exzma. It is very fatty and protects the skin from environmental damage including the sun.
I put Altrust over the shear butter on myself and my daughter.
Hope this helps and you have a good holiday x

The "education" I mentioned earlier is actually eucarin. Blush

We've been told by the gp to use as little as possible of any suncream and cover ds up but it's absolutely fine to give piriton as well if we are having a day out and it's hot and unavoidable to use suncream.

mamaraah · 30/08/2019 23:07

@bluechameleon I used to use that for dd1 as a toddler and pre schooler . It's really gone up in price in the past few years

We were prescribed Sunsense by the GP for our eczema baby (back in the day when they could prescribe sun cream 🙄). He had terrible eczema and this worked well.

Have used La Roche Posay's Children’s spf 50+ and this has been brilliant too.

Poppyseed0202 · 31/08/2019 10:39

I have an 18 month old with very sensitive skin (which he gets from me!) i would use La Roche posay - it doesn't seem to bother him, but it would sting my hands a little when they flare up. Really like the toddler born wild products (for us both) and ordering the suncream today!

kaytee87 · 31/08/2019 10:41

P20 is the best one I've found. I no longer get prickly heat and it's the only one I've tried that doesn't bring my son out in a rash. I can't recommend it enough, it is extremely waterproof and lasts for hours.

Interesting article about suncream and sensitivity www.getthegloss.com/article/sense-and-sensitivity-sun-cream-for-sensitive-skin

heretohelpGB · 31/08/2019 11:38

As @bluechameleon said the organics suncream which is available from green people.co.uk aswell is fantastic. When i say I tried everything that isn't an exaggeration for my daughters' sensitive skin but we have been using this for about 5 years now and have not looked back!

Roomba · 31/08/2019 11:44

My skin is similar, everything brings me out in a rash, not just sunscreen. I used Ultrasun (factor 50, the normal cream not the spray or gel) this year and last year and it has been amazing. No reaction at all. May be worth trying?

Apileofballyhoo · 31/08/2019 12:00

Watch out for the Moo Goo on your face, or really stings your eyes.

Just seen this while looking at shampoo beauty advent calenders
www.greenpeople.co.uk/sun-care-sample-pack?___store=uk&nosto=nosto-page-search1 Might be worth do a test patch ?

jgjgjgjgjg · 31/08/2019 16:11

Use baby suncream instead of adult/ child. Baby suncream is based more on a physical barrier than a chemical barrier.

mamaraah · 31/08/2019 18:29

I've heard of people using coconut oil as apparently it does have some skin protecting properties in sun light 🤷‍♀️

applepineapple · 31/08/2019 18:30

Do not use coconut oil as a SPF on your child!!!!

applepineapple · 31/08/2019 18:30

Dangerous advice from @mamaraah

Mummyoflittledragon · 31/08/2019 18:35

sixtimes · 31/08/2019 19:09

Any thoughts OP? Lots of support on here.

CCquavers · 31/08/2019 19:36

Try Jason, ultrasun and weirdly not ordinary soltan but soltan kids once. It is trial and error and even if you find something you might find it doesn’t work next year ( banana boat) . Piz buitin has also been good for us.

Jammygal · 31/08/2019 19:39

My son has allergies and swells up I feel he uses a suncream that doesn’t agree with his skin. Green people baby one is the only one he is ok with.

Rubyupbeat · 31/08/2019 20:47

Clarins.was good for both my sons very sensitive skin.
