To think there's no suitable suncream for my son??

Hey, my son has the most sensitive skin and it's becoming a nightmare to find any suncream for him. All the high street ones bring him out in a rash and he just gets so sore. We're off on holiday in a couple of weeks and I'm panicking that he's going to burn if I don't find anything suitable soon.

It's not advice @applepineapple it's just what I've heard. I'm not qualified to give medical advice to anyone ( just like the majority of people on MN)

This was my daughter! Ultrasun factor 30 - the 50 has too much flight stuff in and irritates her. But the 30 is almost as protective and is the one she reacts least too. Over time her reactions have lessened.

Have you thought it could b sun sensitivity too? I give antihistamines all through the holiday which controls her reactions. This is what I have to do too sadly. Worth a try?

Not flight stuff - cloggy stuff which blocks her pores. Sensitive skin is generally more irritated by 50 as a result of what they hsce to put in to ‘block’ the sun out.

P20 factor 50 also good buy it absolutely wrecked all of our clothes - turned them green! Ruined everything sadly.

I've had a little yellow marking from it but nothing that putting some of that stain / bright white powder (I use tesco's own version) doesn't solve. I really want an eco version of it but can't find one yet.

I think I had more staining when I was putting too much on. One light layer on the morning and then remove and reapply mid afternoon to be safe reduced the transfer.

I find normal suncream stains my clothes too though because I have to reapply every couple of hours

FuzzyPuffling · 01/09/2019 10:40

I also had some yellow staining from P20 - so much so I'd never use it again. Ruined fabrics :(

AllFourOfThem · 01/09/2019 10:48

Toddle has never stained any clothes and my children have never burnt or reacted/eczema flared up whilst wearing it.

Nothingoriginalhere · 01/09/2019 10:56

my daughter is allergic to most creams, ro the piint of needing urgent hospital care ( facial/ neck swelling) and has ended up in A/E abroad needing adrenaline.
she now uses "sunsense" as reccomended by her dermatologist.
It's easy to say " cover up" but in her case the sun improves her severe exzema and gives her a few weeks relief when exposed for a week or 2 so safe ecposure is a must - keeping her skin covered does not have the same effect.

Nothingoriginalhere · 01/09/2019 10:58

she is 22 so not a child but hasnt suffered since the age of 18 months. Best ever skin was when we lived in the Middle East for 2 years.

Nothingoriginalhere · 01/09/2019 10:58

*has suffered

cccameron · 01/09/2019 13:04

I've used P20 for around 20 years and have never had any staining on clothes. My dd also uses it now with no problems. You do need to wait 15 minutes for it to fully dry though

cccameron · 01/09/2019 13:06

Having said that I don't think I'd recommend it for very sensitive skin. I'd be using Sunsense or la roche Posay in that situation

hungryhippie · 01/09/2019 13:17

Sunsense caused horrible eczema on my son. The only ones he can use are by green people.

BelindasGleeTeam · 01/09/2019 13:29

Depends which sunsense you used. The purple sensitive one is the one dermatologists recommend

leaserspottedmummybird · 17/09/2019 21:31

Sunsense is good. I made my own a few years ago and that worked well for us too.

sleepingbeautyaurora · 05/10/2019 08:33

I make my own suncream .

RumerGodden · 05/10/2019 09:16

just be aware the physical blockers with titanium dioxide can cause allergy too, me and kids are mildly allergic to sunscreens, but terrible rash with anything with titanium dioxide. The particles basically block all your pores and you get supercharged heat rash. takes weeks and a lot of cortisone cream to fix.
