The government is starting an advertising campaign next week telling us all to "Get Ready!".

What else can it mean?

By the way, it's costing £100m.

More panic?

More than the existing not panicking thats going on

That would be bad

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 31/08/2019 20:53

Ive not seen anyone going nuts buyimg stuff

Where are you people shopping?

Parker231 · 31/08/2019 21:08

It really is amazing that people don’t know where their food comes from and how it gets into the country. Details about Project Yellowhammer have been extensively reported in the press and on the news.

rollonautumndays · 31/08/2019 21:10

Sensibly stocking up the cupboard over time is hardly panic buying.

Even if there are no shortages, there may well be price rises after Brexit. Having a cupboard of food that I like, bought at pre-Brexit prices is hardly going to be an issue now, is it? I'll just have to dispose of it all by... erm... eating it!

funnelfanjo · 31/08/2019 21:24

Also handy if there’s a bad winter and disruptions to supermarket deliveries or you can’t get to the shops. Because not all of us live with an Asda at the end of the street and a Tesco at the other end.

How the hell did we survive up to 1975 before joining the EU

The population of the UK has grown just a smidge since then!!

CrunchyCarrot · 31/08/2019 22:01

Ive not seen anyone going nuts buyimg stuff

That's because we aren't 'going nuts'. We're buying a few extra items at a time over a long period. The very antithesis of panic buying.

Where are you people shopping?

I can't speak for others, but I shop online.

Nicetablecloth · 31/08/2019 22:03

How the hell did we survive up to 1975 before joining the EU.

Er, things have changed globally everso slightly since 1975 Hmm

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 31/08/2019 22:13

crunchy

You might want to read the posts before mine

Im agreeing that there is NO panic buying and if any posters are saying there IS panic buying then where the fuck are th particular posters shopping

Smile
KennDodd · 31/08/2019 22:19

Well I shall be clearing out all my cupboards so I have empty shelves on the 1st November. I can then go shopping in the sunlit uplands enjoying all wonderful the new cheap foods the evil EU prevented us having, supermarket shelves will be groaning under the weight. We won't need to worry about medication shortages, diseases will all be cured, they're all brought in from the EU anyway so we won't need medication anymore.

CrunchyCarrot · 31/08/2019 22:21

oops sorry Rufus, what can I say, it's been a long day and probably high time I got some shut eye! :)

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 31/08/2019 22:22

Really not a problem crunchy

I should really treat my snark as the deadly weapon it is and stop doing it for the good of humanity Sad

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 31/08/2019 22:23

Or not...

I’m gonna go with not

funnelfanjo · 31/08/2019 22:30

@Parker231 we love watching Inside The Factory and it makes absolutely clear how modern manufacturing of both food and other items work these days. It’s on BBC1, so hardly niche. Perhaps people only watch it for Greg Wallace in a hair net.

And the other day the Beeb repeated a similar programme from 2015 from the Mini factory in Crowley. Their Just In Time system runs so tight that bad traffic on the A40 can delay key parts coming from Banbury and potentially stop the line (they monitor traffic and reroute lorries). It doesn’t take much imagination to work out the impact of even a few hours delay on multiple industries relying on parts coming from abroad.

Venger · 31/08/2019 22:36

This will just cause shortages and more panic will ensue... or maybe that’s the point?

Stockpiling isn't panic buying.

For example, I go to the shop tomorrow and see that a multipack of baked beans is on special for £2 so I buy two packs. One goes into my cupboard to use now and the other goes into my stash under the stairs. Pasta was on two for £1 and shampoo was on buy one get one free so I also bought two each of those items and stashed one of each.

The shop uses the sales figures of the baked beans, pasta, and shampoo to decide how many to reorder. They put the order in, delivery arrives, the items are restocked.

That's how shopping works, day in day out. That is not panic buying.

LifeImplosionImminent · 31/08/2019 22:49

Reminds me of the "Duck and Cover" message...

Toomuchtrouble4me · 31/08/2019 23:46

Ooh FAB - I LOVE to shop.

What? No wizard?

Venger · 31/08/2019 23:49

We packed the wizard off to some boarding school. I've told the neighbours that we've sent him to St Brutus'.

Nooo Venger, if you are buying it for your Brexit cupboard then it’s automatically panic buying!

BettyBottersBitterButter · 01/09/2019 08:10

KenDodd Grin

I believe germs originated in Germany, so if we get out of Europe we should see an instant improvement in overall health.

TheABC · 01/09/2019 09:19

The sarcasm is strong in this thread. I am personally stocking up on gin and popcorn for next week's political shitstorm.

SistemaAddict · 01/09/2019 09:22
