To think Prince Charles will be our last Monarch

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 09:49

Given that it could be another thirty years before Prince Charles dies, I was wondering if he will be our last Monarch.

I think that a lot will have changed by the time Prince William is due to accede the throne and that the Monarchy will have been abolished by then.

I cannot tell a lie.....

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 17:27

You needn't think, Bertrand, that by cleverly cross-posting with me that anyone will consider that you are the DoC.

"I do truly believe that she thought the Monarchy would be brought into great disrepute by this."

I think that this shows how out of touch they are though.

That it was better for Charles to marry for the sake of it & do his duty rather than not marry at all.

Yes indeed.

Mind you Camilla went and married Andrew Parker Bowles anyway, when she realised that she wasn't posh enough to be PC's wife.

Funny that.

I think Camilla had always wanted to marry APB though so I don't think that them marrying then was ever likely.

herculepoirot2 · 29/08/2019 17:39

Good - deep cover not breached.

[off down “the pub” with the sprogs for a “normal” supper of ham and eggs. Toodle pipsky.]

LenoVintura · 29/08/2019 17:45

It wouldn't surprise me if the monarchy dies with Charles. My adult DC couldn't pick Prince William out of a line up. They would vaguely know Harry, because lad and they're lads, and Meghan maybe cos she's off the telly, but that would be about it. I reckon DS2 wouldn't even know how many children HMQ has. I'm going to quiz them about Prince Andrew out of interest.

TheWernethWife · 29/08/2019 17:46

When the Queen dies then PC and the godawful Princess of Wales Camilla will take over. Duchess of Cornwall has always been smoke and mirrors to mollify the public, as the wife of the P of W she became the Princess of Wales legally on marriage.

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 17:48

I see, Hercule you are showing how common you actually are.

"Down the pub" indeed.

herculepoirot2 · 29/08/2019 17:50

I say “the pub”. We own it.

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 17:51

@TheWernethWife

Yes. Most people do not realise that Camilla is of course the Princess of Wales now.

How fortunate that the RF invest themselves with so many titles that they could pull the Duchy of Cornwall out of a hat to fool 90% of the population.

OP posts:
herculepoirot2 · 29/08/2019 17:52

She is married to my FIL, though.

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 17:54

You live in a pub Hercule?

Can DH and I pop in for a drink later?

We live in a small village in Argyll so it probably isn't far from wherever you are.

Are there BOGOF arrangements on the dinners?

OP posts:
herculepoirot2 · 29/08/2019 18:01

No, we just own it. 😂

lyralalala · 29/08/2019 18:02

Yes. Most people do not realise that Camilla is of course the Princess of Wales now.

I found it quite funny at the time that some people who had seen and heard Princess Anne being given the Princess Royal title, Andrew being given the Duke of York title and Edward the Wessex title were adamant that Camilla wasn’t POW because she was DoC. Like they can’t have more than one title!!

Then again the royals themselves were adamant that on marriage Catherine was a Duchess and not a Princess rather than both so if they can’t get it right what hope is there of members of the public knowing how it works

herculepoirot2 · 29/08/2019 18:04

Lots of precedent there. Anne Boleyn, as Queen, was also the Marquess of Pembroke.

diddl · 29/08/2019 18:04

" Most people do not realise that Camilla is of course the Princess of Wales now."

I find that really surprising.

I thought that it had been well "publicised" that Camilla was PsoW but wouldn't use the title.

Perhaps the same people don't realise that Diana was Duchess of Cornwall!

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 29/08/2019 18:06

Isn’t Catherine HRH Princess William as well as HRH Duchess of Cambridge? Or am I completely wrong? I do know she’s not Princess Catherine or Princess Kate (I heard that one the other day!!).

lyralalala · 29/08/2019 18:08

@GotToGoMyOwnWay yes she is

Why the palace felt the need to say “she won’t be a princess” instead of “she’ll never be Princess Catherine, but she will be HRH Princess William” I have no idea

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 29/08/2019 18:10

Thank you

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 18:11

Because they're supercilious twats.

FiddlesticksAkimbo · 29/08/2019 18:19

I do hope so. It's really time that we grew up. And I hope the prorogation controversy will hasten the demise of the monarchy.

Autumnintheair · 29/08/2019 18:23

I agree that younger generations care less about them.
The Prince Andrew stuff is Vile and could be the un doing of them.
They are fun to watch, the glamour, castles etc. However we could have a drastically reduced rf of direct only.
Pa et Al should be normal citizens

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 29/08/2019 18:25

If anything it’s shown that the monarchy does not act as a check on an unconstitutional (IMO) move. I’d love to know what the Queen actually said to Johnson though.

ForalltheSaints · 29/08/2019 18:45

I don't think so. Although much of the affection for the Royal Family is for the Queen, I cannot imagine any political party arguing for a republic, and in any case, there is no common view as to what the alternative should be.

Even with agreement that hereditary peers were not a good thing as far back as 1911, it was almost 90 years before they were removed from the House of Lords.
