To think Prince Charles will be our last Monarch

Given that it could be another thirty years before Prince Charles dies, I was wondering if he will be our last Monarch.

I think that a lot will have changed by the time Prince William is due to accede the throne and that the Monarchy will have been abolished by then.

@noodlenosefraggle

Oh I dunno.

I rather like the idea of acerbic advisors.

I believe the RF will have a future, but a greatly reduced one in capacity. We do not need to be paying for the likes of Prince Andrew and all the other members that serve no purpose.

If the RF are to survive, they need to shrink it down to the bare minimum. I speak as a great enthusiast for the Queen, but feel it does not sit well with an equal society.

Dapplegrey · 29/08/2019 10:46

I am a reasonable person and would settle for exile or life imprisonment.

Presumably without a ‘trial. You would have fitted in perfectly in Stalin’s Russia.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 29/08/2019 10:46

I'm a royalist so I think yabvvvvu 😂

lolaflores · 29/08/2019 10:47

If The Andu Shitshowngets a real head of steam under it, then QEII will be the last. How could a monarchy survive a potential enquiry and conviction of a member? Couldn't bear watching the pomp and circumstances knowing what one of them had been up to.
In fact watching the faux shock coming from the palace is a sickner

recrudescence · 29/08/2019 10:48

Presumably without a trial.

Don’t be silly, of course they’d have a trial. I’m not a monster.

LochJessMonster · 29/08/2019 10:48

I like the RF so YABU.
I love the Queen, like Camilla (think she has been extremely dignified despite constant digs and insults) and like Wills and Kate, who do their duty quietly and properly.

whattodowith · 29/08/2019 10:50

The only people I know who are Royalists are of the baby boomer generation so I think you’re right. I don’t know any people my age who are into the Royals, not even one bit.

greensnail · 29/08/2019 10:52

I think the Queen could outlive Prince Charles, in which case the crown will pass straight from her to William.

Mac47 · 29/08/2019 10:53

I don't mind the Royal family at all.
I do mind the fact I am politically homeless because the entire political system is fucked, regardless of who is in charge.
King Charles would be the least of my worries.

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 10:56

More than one person has commented on the likelihood of Prince Charles dying before the Queen.

Is this really likely?

OP posts:
ARoomWithoutADoor · 29/08/2019 10:56

I would prefer it if the Queen was our last Monarch
I do not think Charles is fit for the role of King
I think by the time William would accede the Monarchy will be irrelevant

I suspect what will happen is that this latest crisis will mean that in 20 years time we will have a written Constitution and a decorative Monarchy as in, say, Denmark

Gruzinkerbell1 · 29/08/2019 11:00

I used to quite like Wills and Harry. William now has a constant look on his face like he’s smelling something really vile, I can’t stand to look at photos of him anymore. It’s always there! Like a petulant child.

And Harry is fast proving himself to be an idiot. Just like the rest of the royals.

The Queen must despair at the lot of them.

diddl · 29/08/2019 11:00

What do people think makes Charles unfit-his lack of morals/sense of entitlement?

Wonder where he got those from?

What makes people think HM has done so well?

There has certainly been duty & dedication-but at what cost to her family?

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 11:01

The YABU/YANBU vote is not a poll on who agrees on having a monarchy.

It is to determine who agrees that PC is likely to be our last King given that it will be a possible thirty years before he dies.

OP posts:
Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 11:03

Oh I think PC's lack of morals goes a long way to explaining why he isn't popular.

OP posts:
CallmeAngelina · 29/08/2019 11:03

I think they may have more chance of staying around if they skip Charles, and go straight to William.

I've seen this "opinion" on here before - showing complete ignorance about the way our constitution works. It's not fucking X-Factor, fgs!

StarShapedWindow · 29/08/2019 11:06

I feel really conflicted, I think the UK does all the pomp and ceremony really well and it would be a shame for these ancient traditions to die but on the other hand seeing a family of four with both parents working, living in a tiny flat with no hope of owning a home (if they want to) or having any kind of old age due to low state pensions whilst watching the royal family jetting to God knows where or holidaying in their Scottish Estate wearing a coat that costs more than they’ll jointly earn that month?? It doesn’t sit with the way most people want to see society going - ie a more equal society.

LadyRannaldini · 29/08/2019 11:09

I think you're optimistic on Charles' life expectation, even if HM died today I doubt be would be King for long, around 80 and he's 70+ now.

AtillatheHun · 29/08/2019 11:10

I think CHarles will be the last monarch with any real "clout" / substantial civil list support. I can't see the monarchy abolished, but it is becoming increasingly untenable in its current model in the current world (& Andrew, his daughters, harry and his wife are significantly to blame on this).

SoupDragon · 29/08/2019 11:12

showing complete ignorance about the way our constitution works.

And constitutions never change do they?

Jemima232 · 29/08/2019 11:13

I was only basing PC's possible life expectancy on heredity. His mother is 93 and his grandmother was 101 when she died.

OP posts:
Gilead · 29/08/2019 11:15

I'm a republican. I think they should go, particularly after yesterday.

BertrandRussell · 29/08/2019 11:16

“More than one person has commented on the likelihood of Prince Charles dying before the Queen.

Is this really likely?”

Well, I have a virtual book on him not lasting 10 years...

MotherofTerriers · 29/08/2019 11:17

I think if the Queen outlived Prince Charles there might be an upsurge of support for William.
But I think - and hope - that the Prince Andrew scandal will damage the monarchy so badly that it will end soon.
