To not want to use my credit card for boss's purchase?

Boss asked me to find something online for him and confirm the price. I did so. Sent him the link with the final price (around £100) and asked him how we were going to pay for this as they are not a usual supplier, so therefore we don't have a company account.

He emailed back and said can I get it on my credit card, then do a reimbursement?

AIBU to say no?

I'm fairly new to the role and dont want to set a precedent and have this keep happening BUT also want to do a good job. Why can't he put it on his card and and do a reimbursement?

AIBU to think he's unreasonable?

FWIW we do not have a departmental credit card to use.

Hell no- of course you can refuse.
I don’t have a credit card is all I’d say, and would you like to send me the details of yours?!

Polly111 · 28/08/2019 20:14

He’s being really cheeky! Just say you don’t have a credit card. The company should get their own if they don’t have one

RezCowgirl · 28/08/2019 20:16

Absolutely say no. He can put it on his own card if he wants to.

Biancadelrioisback · 28/08/2019 20:17

My old place was like this. Just keep refusing.

incontrolofmyownlife · 28/08/2019 20:17

No no no!

'Unfortunately I don't have a credit card John. If you can send me your card details I'll use those then do a reimbursement straight away. Will keep them on file for next time too Smile'

NurseButtercup · 28/08/2019 20:17

Just say you don’t have a credit card.

And if he says can you put it on your debit card say you're on a tight budget until pay day and haven't got £100 to spare.

JoyceJeffries · 28/08/2019 20:19

Cheeky sod! Say no but you’d happily use his card for it.

Hello1231 · 28/08/2019 20:19

No way! They shouldn't be doing that anyway for audit purposes.

DelurkingAJ · 28/08/2019 20:22

I’d be tempted to check your expenses policy too. Ours states that the most senior person needs to pay because that means that your boss can’t ask you to expense something that they then approve. Fairly important financial control.

Cherrysoup · 28/08/2019 20:22

No way. He needs a proper paper trail for the accounts. Tell him to get a company credit card.

Missangrypants · 28/08/2019 20:26

He's trying to take advantage of the fact you are fairly new and keen to please.

As others have replied, just say no.

Purpleartichoke · 28/08/2019 20:32

This is considered perfectly normal everywhere I have worked. I’m in the US.

adaline · 28/08/2019 20:35

No way, absolutely not on.

Fair enough if you're happy to do so and will organise immediate reimbursement through expenses/petty cash, but not otherwise. Cheeky bugger. Tell him to use his own card!

Myriade · 28/08/2019 20:36

Who says that you have a credit card? many peole dont for many reasons.

IsobelRae23 · 28/08/2019 20:41

Just say you don’t have a credit card.

LostInTheColonies · 28/08/2019 20:42

Was this a purchase to be sent to a third party? Big phishing scam doing the rounds at the moment with a request that appears to come from your boss asking exactly this. Check that the sender's email address is legitimate. I very nearly got caught out at the weekend with a request exactly like this. The request was for Steam Wallet cards if that helps.

Drum2018 · 28/08/2019 20:46

Just say it's not possible. Cheeky fucker for asking you!

ElizaPancakes · 28/08/2019 20:48

Just say no and if pressed say you don’t have one.

dollydaydream114 · 28/08/2019 20:49

Absolutely not and it’s not reasonable for him to ask.

flumpybear · 28/08/2019 20:53

That's terrible! Say I don't have one, and as others have said tell him you could use his details on his credit card

PlatoAteMySnozcumber · 28/08/2019 20:55

I put large amounts of credit card for work and re charged. I knew I would get the money back so didn’t see the issue. My credit limit was even increased after a while!

FizzyPink · 28/08/2019 20:57

In my role this is perfectly normal. I take out a lot of clients and like to book flights/meals/hotels etc on my personal card as I know they’ll reimburse me and I get to keep the points.

SuzieQ10 · 28/08/2019 21:00

Cheeky sod. Please do not agree to this! You certainly don't have to.

managedmis · 28/08/2019 21:18

Thank god it's not just me. He is chancing it, isn't it?

That's what I thought I'd say : I don't have a credit card.

Thanks everyone!

I this situation I would say no, I rarely use my credit card and like it free for emergencies. Would you get the interest back if you were charged any before you were reimbursed?
