To not want to use my credit card for boss's purchase?

Boss asked me to find something online for him and confirm the price. I did so. Sent him the link with the final price (around £100) and asked him how we were going to pay for this as they are not a usual supplier, so therefore we don't have a company account.

He emailed back and said can I get it on my credit card, then do a reimbursement?

AIBU to say no?

I'm fairly new to the role and dont want to set a precedent and have this keep happening BUT also want to do a good job. Why can't he put it on his card and and do a reimbursement?

AIBU to think he's unreasonable?

FWIW we do not have a departmental credit card to use.

I do this at any opportunity - obviously I claim it asap as well. Gets me a lot of BA avios for effectively nothing!

He is probably being lazy OP as he thinks he can get away with it. I would definitely say no, but see if you can look through the procurement process policies if it's something you might have to deal with in the future, for your benefit. If your job shouldn't include any of this, see if there is a team who do (depending on the workplace), who you can refer onto or work with in the future.

I've never had a credit card in my life, he'd get nowhere with me Grin Debit card only used when necessary, I prefer to buy in person with cash, and a receipt.

RiddleyW · 28/08/2019 21:28

Fine to say no but this isn’t unusual. I put lots of things (flights, entertaining, stationery) on my credit card. I’d have no problem with someone in my team not doing it though.

Redcrayons · 28/08/2019 21:32

I would do it where I work because I know I would get repaid quickly.

I wouldn’t in a new company if I hadn’t been there that long.

Good call from LostInTheColonies there - always double check an unusual email/text request like that in person or on the phone because this is a classic spearphishing set-up.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 28/08/2019 21:40

Yeah I am another one who puts stuff on my card when necessary, because I know it'll be reimbursed and I get the points.

But I'd have no issue with a junior member of my team declining either. Your boss probably just didn't think before asking.

Some one I know just lost a lot of money from her company as one of her staff got a request like this which appeared to come from her and the employee used the company card, she lost a couple of thousand from her company. Said she looked at the email several time wondering if she had somehow forgotten she had asked the employee to do it as the email was so good.

PicaK · 28/08/2019 21:45

Just say you'd rather not. He probably thinks he's doing you a favour as you get the points.

Pardonwhat · 28/08/2019 21:47

Just say “no” with a smile.
I wouldn’t dignify it with an explanation or excuse.

CherrySocks · 28/08/2019 21:53

I would say I'm not willing to do that.

Cassilis · 28/08/2019 23:49

I paid on my credit card for something for someone, they never paid me back.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/08/2019 23:58

Def say no

Why should you fund his goods

Ask for his card details

Or

Ask for payment before you buy on your card
