to think the bloody squirrels didn't have to strip ALL the nuts off my tree? Bastards.

Went out today to find them all gone, nothing but piles of empty shells they'd broken open. I was looking forward to having some. Lovely hazelnuts they were.

Probably prepping for Brexit ...

FadedRed · 28/08/2019 16:00

FadedRed · 28/08/2019 16:01

These will be the same little buggers who watch me plant bulbs then dig them up and eat them.

MaidofKent78 · 28/08/2019 16:02

Bastards. Probably been talking to the pigeons who stripped my plum tree in the spring.

EileenAlanna · 28/08/2019 16:32

Hmmm.......Seems like we're under a concerted attack from these prepper/greedy wildlife types. I hadn't factored Brexit into this @VenusOfWillendorf but my god I see it all clearly now that you've brought it up.
Can't believe I've been so naive. Should've stood guard with the air rifle.

greys or reds ?

greentheme23 · 28/08/2019 16:33

I think there's more important shit to worry about right now!

EileenAlanna · 28/08/2019 16:51

@littlepaddypaws didn't spot them while they were there but I'd guess grey. There's grey squirrels in the Cathedral garden down the road from me & they hang out there for the masses of nuts & grapes they have growing there. I was hoping with all they have there they wouldn't start eyeing up mine. Sadly, that hope was forlorn.

we don't tend to have many reds on the main land except brownsea island, isle of wight [no greys] and in areas of scotland. so it sounds like the grey critters Smile must admit i love squirrels esp. the cute reds.

My favourite thread title of the day Grin

MayorPrentiss · 28/08/2019 17:19

Our resident squirrel got run over a month ago. Now we have lots of hazelnuts but I miss him chattering away at the top of the telegraph pole, poor little Flufftail Sad

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 28/08/2019 17:21

I apologise, they tried my apples earlier and didn't find them to their liking, so must have moved on to your nuts now.

Stillterrified · 28/08/2019 17:21

@littlepaddypaws

You forgot Anglesey - Wales

Booming populations of red squirrels and no greys at all

SandyY2K · 28/08/2019 17:29

They must have thought all their christmases had come at once. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

EileenAlanna · 28/08/2019 17:39

@MayorPrentiss my condolences on your loss Sad I suppose I'll start seeing them about now they know there's another buffet table in the area. They'll make a change I suppose. The only things I have on the telegraph poles around me are massive big gulls. They roost on my roof.

Quail15 · 28/08/2019 20:44

They must have moved from your tree to mine Sad my beautiful kenish cob nut tree has been emptied of every single nut ( and it's a huge tree). All of them not quite ripe so I hadn't gotten round to picking any yet.

I saw the culprit but he just laughed at me from the top branch.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/08/2019 20:48

They've taken our cherries too.

At least they eat them though — next door have two kittens who like to sit in the plum tree and bat at the fruit until it falls down!

BinkySodPlop · 28/08/2019 21:00

Not only have they stripped my hazelnuts, but they've dug into the roots of my pot plants to bury some! Grrrrr. Angry

littlepaddypaws · 28/08/2019 21:01

still let's hear it for the welsh reds - yay !
i've been longing to see a red for years, i'm on my way, get the kettle on, are you still at #42 squirrel street, ? Smile

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/08/2019 21:03

We have a cherry tree that hangs over the end of our garden, gorgeous edible cherries. I never get one, all the birds eat them before they are ripe. I love seeing birds in the garden but bloody hell, cherries are so expensive!!

mrsmuddlepies · 28/08/2019 21:04

They are not as bad as the parakeets that have eaten and spoiled all the apples on our apple tree.
I cannot believe how much damage they do. They screech all the time as well!

Peccary · 28/08/2019 22:06

Formby nature reserve, guaranteed red sightings. Jackdaws in the apple tree are our problem, causing the apples to drop before we pick them

BettysLeftTentacle · 28/08/2019 22:07

The bastards have had my hazels too Angry

CheeryB · 28/08/2019 22:09

Raspberries. Wasps. All gone. Nuff said.

wigglybeezer · 28/08/2019 22:12

Jackdaws have wrecked my apples too, revenge for me having my chimneys capped to foil them! We have red squirrels where I am, much hoo hah on our local Facebook page when someones cat was spotted with one in it's jaws 😞
