Went out today to find them all gone, nothing but piles of empty shells they'd broken open. I was looking forward to having some. Lovely hazelnuts they were.

I have 211 hazel trees in my garden. I know this because I planted them. I have worked out that there is one day and one day only when they are ready enough to pick and if you miss it the squidgers get 99%. I missed that day last year and almost missed it this year. It's like a plague of locusts have gone through my little wood.

This year the squirrels and the wood pigeons left my damson tree and I got five kilos from it yesterday- damson gin mmmm.

However my carefully nurtured walnuts (this year was the first year the tree fruited) were raided overnight. Little gits

However my much mourned old cat Max did eat lots of the squirrel families over the years so I guess I owe them.
