To be upset that this family took photos and filmed when I was obviously so upset and terrified...

Today we took my children for a much promised trip to a go ape type course. When we got there they wouldn't let my husband, as planned go round with my children aged 6 and 8, due to footwear (my fault for not checking closely enough). Concerned about the 6yr old and not wanting them to miss out I went up instead though I am afraid of heights. Whilst the six year old was a bit nervous on the first few obstacles I was ok, scared but could pull it together for his sake. When he got confidence and shot off round course with big brother and I was left alone, I froze, totally and utterly. I was shaking so much I couldn't work my hands or feet properly, struggled to breathe etc. I was clearly terrified, more-so than I have ever been in my whole life. There was no way down, you have to complete the whole thing. Two lovely lads came up and helped me. It was slow, I was shaking and really trying to get round. This family watching from the park next to us started to take photos of me, film me and were obviously finding the whole thing hilarious. Whilst I can see a funny side the idea that there is a film now of me at my worst and so utterly terrified I could hardly move my feet is really bothering me this evening.... I did finally get round and complete the course but this filming thing and being used as a laughing stock has upset me a bit! I keeping being scared it'll appear all over social media!!

Omg they are disgusting. Well done to you for carrying on.

AnxiousandExcited · 26/08/2019 20:43

That's tough. It isn't nice to be treated like that.

Thesearmsofmine · 26/08/2019 20:44

They are absolute pricks.

Well done for finishing the course, I would have been scared too.

Wallabyone · 26/08/2019 20:44

What absolute idiots. Did you see them afterwards? I would have asked them to delete it if I had, and told them what I thought of them. What is wrong with people now, that their first and foremost thought is to bloody record something like this? Well done for getting round, I would have been frightened too x

AWitchesHat · 26/08/2019 20:45

Firstly, well done you for completing it in-spite of your fears. That’s no mean feat.
Secondly, those people were bell ends. Very cruel and lacking in empathy. If I saw it on SM I would think the people sharing it were utterly reprehensible.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 26/08/2019 20:45

Wait, were they filming their dc and you were in the background?

Or were they directly filming you, as the primary object?

If the latter, you would have been well within your rights to give them a tongue lashing and demand they delete the video. Although I can understand you weren't in the frame of mind!

As an aside, why isn't it your DH responsibility to check his own footwear?

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 26/08/2019 20:47

How awful! If it’s any consolation, if I saw a video like that being circulated it would only make me think poorly of the twats who filmed it. I expect most people would feel the same.

It’s great that you faced your fears so you DC wouldn’t miss out, and you made it round the course (which is amazing!) so concentrate on that.

Daylily34 · 26/08/2019 20:47

Well done- that was a great achievement . My son is petrified of heights. Those people - nasty - but be thankful that they are nothing to you . People reap what they sow in life sooner or later .

Headinabook55 · 26/08/2019 20:47

Gosh I froze on Go Ape once too. You have my utmost sympathy!

Lulualla · 26/08/2019 20:47

A family? As in some parents with their kids did this? Teaching their kids that laughing at people and filming them for futute humiliation is correct behaviour is really really disgusting. If it was a family with kids then those kids are being dragged up.
I'm sorry that happened to you. But what you should focus on is that you got round it. You did it. Doesn't matter how long it took; you did it. Being so scared that you're shaking and feel like you simply cannot move would be something which would stop most people and they'd just sit down and cry. But you got round it so well done.

cheeseislife8 · 26/08/2019 20:50

What idiots! I don't understand the newish craze for people filming things like this, it's weird. YANBU, that would make me furious and uncomfortable.

Well done for making it round the course!

Oneborneverydecade · 26/08/2019 20:50

The same thing happened to me. I needed to let go and zip wire across a small space. My DH eventually talked me through it from the ground. It was very embarrassing. I'd have been mortified if someone had been recording me.

Crunched · 26/08/2019 20:53

Filming everything, even medical emergencies and vehicle collisions, seems the norm.
You have my sympathy AND my admiration for being a great parent.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 26/08/2019 20:56

Oh, I HATED Go Ape when it was just me and DS! It was on the kids course but I was really freaked out. I got better with successive circuits though, to the extent that I was quite proud of myself at the end, but the start was awful, esp as I had to try and hide it from DS. I would have been 10x worse if some arsehole had tried to film me. Poor you OP Flowers

CloudyVanilla · 26/08/2019 20:58

I don’t understand how people can be such vile cunts.

I remember a poor lady on here saying she had accidentally locked the keys inside her car with her baby inside or something similar and was naturally really upset and a woman took out her phone and started filming her??

It honestly makes me sick. As usual there are those who abuse the power of social media for their own pathetic gain and feel justified in doing so because there are so many other deplorable arseholes doing the same thing.

I hope you feel better; they are absolutely pathetic for doing this and its really no skin off your nose - I’d think so little of them that I would find it hard to be embarrassed.

Celebelly · 26/08/2019 20:59

Twats. Nice example they're setting to their kids too (presuming there were kids with them as you call them a family)

Well done you! I'd be bloody terrified too, but what a lovely thing you did so your kids wouldn't miss out on something they were looking forward to. That's top tier 'mumming' you did today!

SmartPlay · 26/08/2019 21:01

This is sick and disgusting! ... and illegal in many countries - and rightly so!

timshelthechoice · 26/08/2019 21:01

I hate cunts who do this to other people, hoping their footage of someone else's misery goes viral. I think Go Ape should ban filming.

tasmaniandevilchaser · 26/08/2019 21:01

Poor you, I had a similar experience. Luckily it was just my DH filming me so I could delete it. Realistically the quality of the film is going to be crappy, no one could recognise you from it. Well done for getting round! I’ve watched people get manoeuvred down with a lot of people watching, at least you finished it!

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 26/08/2019 21:03

Utter cunts. On the bright side it's not a video that normal people would enjoy watching so it isn't going to go viral!

You're a great mum to go through that for your boy.

youarenotkiddingme · 26/08/2019 21:05

Shame you weren't so scared that you vomited over their smug heads!

Well done for doing it. They are terrifying if you don't like heights and once the nerves set in it's hard.

Be proud of yourself for getting around and that actually that's what the video shows. The day you managed to overcome your anxiety enough to complete the Course

HairyFloppins · 26/08/2019 21:08

You were very brave to even go on it OP. I wouldn't.

Absolute arseholes for filming you. Hope Karma gets them.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 26/08/2019 21:11

Did you complain to the staff- you should have, it is probably against the agreement you make when you sign the waiver etc.

YANBU at all

Also - really no way down? Christ

tigger1001 · 26/08/2019 21:11

I am terrified of heights so really take my hat off to you that you put your fear aside to help your child. That took courage. Well done on facing your fear.

And I can understand your horror at seeing someone film, and take enjoyment in your fear. They are idiots and should be ashamed of themselves

Moominfan · 26/08/2019 21:12

Op well done for completing it. They're really mean spirited people
