Just that really...

My FIL does lots of carpentry and I love it. I’ve been looking at a few easy projects to try and I’m reasonable handy so can use basic tools etc.

I also sew a bit, bake, and want to do more myself to my home.

I don’t have masses of time though so it’s slow going.

How do you fit it all in?

I have so much I’d like to do and not nearly enough time.

I recently started making soft toys (amigurumi) I enjoy doing it in the evening when the children are in bed. They work up quite quickly so it's quite an easy reward for the work!! I'm going to get myself CE registered and start labelling them to sell at craft fairs soon, just perfecting my designs and testing out prototypes on my boys for robustness first.

Shplot · 26/08/2019 19:13

I love making! Unfortunately I’m not very good though Grin

Merryoldgoat · 26/08/2019 19:16

@spaniorita l just googled them and they’re so cute!!

@Shplot what do you make?

I want to put some decking down in my garden but I’ve got a 6 yo and 1yo and they don’t give me any peace.

Not at all, I have no useful practical skills, except basic cooking. (I’m not proud of it, partly disability related, partly laziness.) That does mean I buy hand made/cooked clothes and food at charity events or fairs.

Ilovemyshoppingtrolley · 26/08/2019 19:19

I make things, mainly cards, but recently after shopping with my youngest DD and watching her buy hair scrunchies for £3 each!Shock I decided I could make them. So for the psat week I have sat and sewn every spare minute - so far have sold 9. I am going to start selling them properly I think, won't sell them for £3 though - that's just silly!

Merryoldgoat · 26/08/2019 19:20

My YouTube feed is a disaster - patio tutorials, furniture making, arm knitting patterns, home decorating etc.

I keep getting ideas but I can’t keep up and it’s driving me a bit mad.

@Ilovemyshoppingtrolley

I used to make scrunchies! How are you selling them?

I make rag rugs, cushion covers, curtains, dresses... I don't have much time, I generally do a little after DS is in bed or if I'm lucky while he's awake. It can take me ages but I try to just do one project at a time.

Drogosnextwife · 26/08/2019 19:22

I have a pallet that some flooring I bought was delivered on. I would love to use it for something but my imagination isn't good enough to think of a good idea for it haha.

ShinyMe · 26/08/2019 19:23

I taught myself to use a sewing machine a few years ago, and made lots of skirts and handbags, and some patchwork quilts. Haven't had the sewing machine out in a few years, but have taught myself to crochet and have made several scarves and blankets.

Merryoldgoat · 26/08/2019 19:24

@Hospitalexpert

I thought about making some plus sized clothes and selling them as I always get compliments when I make them but never did Sad

I paint and sew and make clothes.

MashedSpud · 26/08/2019 19:25

I crochet blankets, pillows, amigurumi, dolls clothes and needle felt.

baubled · 26/08/2019 19:25

I make balloons 🎈🎈

ShinyMe · 26/08/2019 19:26

My favourite sewing make was my jaeger handbag - it's made out of a man's suit and has inside pockets made from the trouser and inside jacket pockets, and front pockets made from the outside flappy jacket pockets, and cuffs at the straps.

PooWillyBumBum · 26/08/2019 19:26

I don’t sew very often so can’t help you on time management but I make curtains, clothes and gifts (bags, backpacks, wash bags etc)

Also love preserving homegrown fruit and veg - pickling, bottling, jam, etc!

Merryoldgoat · 26/08/2019 19:27

I think completing one project at a time is probably key - I get too much in my head and get overwhelmed.

There are some great YouTube pallet tutorials - have a look!

I’d love to learn to crochet but I really don’t need another bloody hobby!

Loads of crafty people!

Anyone else into carpentry?

When the children were young a long time ago I made simple clothes and did a lot of knitting. As the years went by and prices changed I dropped the clothes making but carried on knitting until that too seemed a waste of energy. As the grandchildren appeared I started to paint and their portraits involved in all sorts of activities and events as they grew up have been given a place in their home and mine. Now their girl friend’s are frequently on my easel which I love. Great fun. Love it when people ask me to do a painting for them. When I give them away I photograph them as you soon forget them. Great for recording flowers given to me, holidays, other relatives etc.

I’m a soft furnisher so live running up stuff in my spare time. Hoping to restart my business in the future 👍

Geraniumpink · 26/08/2019 19:32

I can lay a patio, do basic machine and hand sewing, very basic electrical rewiring, refill the boiler and do some tiling. I love baking, especially bread. Youtube is amazing for learning anything though. I’m not good at knitting though!

MarshaBradyo · 26/08/2019 19:32

I love the idea of it and bought a sewing machine. The fabrics I like are pretty expensive and I don’t have the time at all atm. But in the future I’d like to do more.

Lagatha · 26/08/2019 19:32

I do tablet weaving, it looks really beautiful. The only problem is I never know what to do with what I make

milliefiori · 26/08/2019 19:33

I bake cakes (love it) and I write poetry and short fiction, which is making in a way, I suppose. I sometimes do a one-off project like making dressing up clothes for DC or upholstering a set of dining chairs, but no regular crafts. Not patient or talented enough. My sister makes pots. She's amazing.

MarshaBradyo · 26/08/2019 19:33

I’d love to be good at carpentry as I have a few things I’d love to make. I have zero skills atm however
