Just that really...

My FIL does lots of carpentry and I love it. I’ve been looking at a few easy projects to try and I’m reasonable handy so can use basic tools etc.

I also sew a bit, bake, and want to do more myself to my home.

I don’t have masses of time though so it’s slow going.

How do you fit it all in?

I have so much I’d like to do and not nearly enough time.

I'm into PC and laptop repairs. I get old machines and spend many happy hours getting them to work. Software side of things is fascinating too.

Love my woodworking. Just bought myself a sliding mitre saw as I'm completely unable to cut a straight line!

craftynamechange · 27/08/2019 19:43

@tomcatspray thank you, it is a call the midwife pattern 😊

Rubyupbeat · 28/08/2019 00:06

I do quilting, embroidery (machine and hand) and do dressmaking. The sewing started off with making bags, toys, baby quilts etc....then progressed to intricate quilting and because I am tall with a long body, so difficult to but off the peg, I started learning dressmaking, so I can modify patterns to my own size. I love it, it relaxes me, I get to be creative with designing stuff and wearing some great gear. Mind you it's taken over...I have a seeing room, but it kind of spills over to other rooms too, yikes!

Oops, should add , I also make baby to 5 year old clothes, organic fabrics, so far just for family and friends, but have had so many 'orders' that I am looking at starting an etsy business, baby things are so enj6to make.

pandarific · 28/08/2019 00:22

Ahh I feel you op - I am the person of a thousand interests. Lots fall by the wayside but I have kept sourdough baking and kefir making which I love. Used to write and have half finished much admired fanfic saga on the go but noooo time.

Just finished painting / restoration of furniture obsession complete with making over an old 80s sideboard - that turned out bloody well if I do say so myself. But new wheeze is hydroponics and plants. I want to grow all the things!

I'm quite jealous. I like my crochet, but I'd love to be able to do something as useful as that.

CherryPavlova · 28/08/2019 08:03

Like most people locally I make jams and chutneys and bake. I do cake decorating for birthdays and anniversaries.
We have a small gossiping group that make counted cross stitch church kneelers as a focus, instead of another book club. I do sewing sometimes- bunting and napkins for friends children’s weddings etc. I also do a bit of household sewing - curtains, swimming robes, Christmas stockings,.

Hello @species5618 !
I dont suppose you know much about Arduino do you? I'm currently stuck Confused

legalseagull · 28/08/2019 17:18

I've just bought a sewing machine and am using it for the first time in 20 years (year 9 H.E!) to make patchwork quilts out of old baby clothes.

legalseagull · 28/08/2019 17:18

They're not perfect but I'm proud of myself nonetheless. They'll get better and neater!

DarlingCoffee · 28/08/2019 17:44

I make beeswax candles

I dabbled with the Pi but Arduino is not really my area of interest.
Is the Forum any help. forum.arduino.cc/

Merryoldgoat · 29/08/2019 10:01

Honestly - I keep checking in on this thread and I'm amazed at the things there are to do - I love candles and never thought to make them myself.

I love sewing too but without a workroom I can't do much as the toddler wants to get too involved.

I've found a memory bear pattern so I'm going to make one for each of my children out of my favourite babygrows.

I'm also trying to remodel my garden.

I literally have no time as it is.

I also have an idea for a children's book which would rival Harry Potter in popularity (HA!) but getting it down is proving difficult.

My husband keeps saying 'write your book, make millions and then you'll have all the time in the world' - I think he's taking the piss...

@CherryPavlova - we have a local sewing group who call themselves (informally) 'Stitch and Bitch'.

AllBellsNoWhistles · 29/08/2019 15:55

I make love 😋

AllBellsNoWhistles · 29/08/2019 15:56

Which has in the past resulted in making babies 😂

CherryPavlova · 29/08/2019 16:02

@ longearedbat. We thought about a more general sewing club but decided proper sewing and wine meant wonky seams. Kneelers are a sort of communal thing. We have about ten on the go at any one time and you can just pick up one and work on it without any expectation of completing it or joining the group every time. It means you can bring a friend along just for one session or join even if buying a kneeler kit is too expensive. Most people can do cross stitch so no need for any level of skill

Definitely more talking than sewing!

butmynameisveronica · 29/08/2019 20:03

@tomcatspray that is absolutely gorgeous. I only do basic hand-stitching and things but you've inspired me to look closer...

@Merryoldgoat regarding your story, have you heard of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)? The challenge is to write 50,000 words during November. It sounds whopping, and it is a commitment of about 2000 words a day, but one year I managed to get a novel out of it. Even if you only write 10, 15 or even 5K, that's more than you started with.

It's a massive online community as well, with lots of tips on how to write, what to do if you get stuck, etc. I do it nearly every year and have only made the goal twice, but I find it good productive fun!

Merryoldgoat · 29/08/2019 22:42

@butmynameisveronica

That sounds great! I’ll look it up tomorrow Grin

I make jewellery, we have a small kiln so I make glass works, I have a bash at pottery every now and then. LOVE sewing and have taught myself how to crochet. Also had a go at photoshop/illustrator in an evening when the kids have all KO'd.

TheRestartist · 29/08/2019 23:04

Yep I paint 😊 www.youtube.com/c/therestartist is where I upload - most times it goes wrong but it's a giggle and a bit of stress relief
