...to think about getting a piece of breastmilk jewellery?!

I can't work out if I think it's a bit gross or lovely!

Basically, from what I gather, you send off a little of your milk and it gets made into a kind of powder/resin and you can have it set as a ring or pendant, etc. Visually it looks quite nice, from what I've seen, and given breastfeeding has been a difficult but ultimately v rewarding journey for us, I kind of like the idea of something to commemorate it when we're done (which hopefully is a while off yet).

But am I mad? Has anyone had breastmilk jewellery made? Do I need to give my head a wobble?

I think it sounds great .Wish it had been about when I was BF .(Got a diamond eternity ring for birth of our son) !.Defo go for it .When they are older you can show your children , and what a wonderful family heirloom!.I enjoyed feeding but sooo tiring ! .Why not have a little keepsake to remind you of all that lovely bonding between you and baby?

Ah great, another way for the boob brigade to shove it down our throats how they are better mothers than the rest of us. It's a no from me Hmm

Haggisfish · 26/08/2019 12:52

I had a bf photo shoot done and I treasure the photos. Go do it if you want op.

Whoops75 · 26/08/2019 12:52

I think it’s really weird and one of those things that people will try and show off with. ‘Look at me and my breastmilk necklace, did I tell you it was made from my breastmilk

Do it for yourself, don’t do this ^

JacquesHammer · 26/08/2019 12:55

How would it do that...unless you’re suggesting you have some superpower that can discern at 20 paces whether a pendant has breastmilk in it..:

Sparklingbrook · 26/08/2019 12:58

If you are buying breastmilk jewellery but nobody would know it's breastmilk I don't see the point. But people ask me all the time what stone my engagement ring is, so what would you say?

Celebelly · 26/08/2019 13:01

I'd probably just fib and be vague, like 'oh some kind of pearl/opal I think...' and change the subject.

Unless it was a good friend, then I would be like IT'S MILK FROM MY BOOBS, LOOK AT IT. They already know I'm weird so no need to have that discussion.

At first I thought this is strange, if you're not going to tell anyone then it's pretty pointless and a bit gross.

Then I remembered my beloved dog is sitting up on my shelf, in a sparkly paw print glass Blush So go for it.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 26/08/2019 13:05

I think it's totally personal. I loathed breastfeeding and found it really triggering so wouldn't want something to remind me but I can understand why someone else might.

I don't see anything wrong with a pretty piece of jewellery with personal meaning. I have a Victorian mourning locket which was passed down through DH's family to the eldest son's bride (no idea why) and I have a charm with one of my baby teeth on it (which is totally gross but I can't quite bring myself to throw it out) so breastmilk pearls don't sound particularly out there.

I also think it would be quite nice to inherit some day, given that you have a dd because it's personal to her to.

JacquesHammer · 26/08/2019 13:06

But people ask me all the time what stone my engagement ring is

I had two very unusual stones in my engagement rings (replacement after one was stolen in a burglary) and I was never asked! I genuinely don’t think people even care that much or notice.

RebornFlame · 26/08/2019 13:21

FlyingSpaghettiM0nster
Boob brigade Hmm

I’m going to get it done. For me. It’s a special memory of a special time encapsulated.

HaroldThatsEnough · 26/08/2019 13:25

Oh god, no, it's beyond naff. It's just an ordinary bodily function, why not have a bit of cervical mucous and some semen made into earrings?

Sparklingbrook · 26/08/2019 13:34

I'd probably just fib and be vague, like 'oh some kind of pearl/opal I think...' and change the subject.

To me that defeats the object of it.

@PhilCornwall1 🤮

JizzGems has an upbeat feel.

YummyFoodie · 26/08/2019 15:29

I suppose it's a bit less gross than the placenta eating fad.

PhilCornwall1 · 26/08/2019 15:38

@MaidenMotherCrone that's better! My wife likes the name too, I'll see if she wants to be the first customer 😆

Huskylover1 · 26/08/2019 15:42

Women have been breastfeeding babies for tens of thousands of years, so I can't get too worked up about all this.

I think anyone admiring your necklace will slightly Vom or eyeroll, when you tell them what's in it. I think your kids will find it mortifying when they are older (do you really want your 20 year old son thinking about how he used to feed off your boobs, every time he sees that thing round your neck?)

When we were going through my son's stuff when he left home, we came across a little box containing things from babyhood, scan pics, hospital wrist band....and the positive pregnancy test. His response? "Rank".

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 15:48

I kept my positive pregnancy test for a month then came to my senses and realised it was a rank wee stick and binned it!!

EmeraldShamrock · 26/08/2019 16:02

I still have my positive pregnancy test nearly 12 years old, the pee is well dried.
I think it is a lovely idea the milk diamond, people have art made from the left over umbilical cord, they squeeze it out and make capsules for iron for DM, then use the skin for art.

lildottie · 26/08/2019 16:30

I have a charm bead made with my breast milk and it has gold flakes in it to commemorate our 1yr of bf "golden boobies". In this day and age where breastfeeding is undersupported and hard to achieve I see no reason not to mark it with a piece of jewelry. Noone would know it was breastmilk unless you told them. I plan to get another charm as we've now been feeding for 3yrs and we're about to have baby no 2 and are still going! I'm proud of what I've been able to give my child in a time and place where many mums want to but face too many obstacles to be able to meet their goals through no fault of their own.

ElizaDee · 26/08/2019 17:18

@celebelly Check out snozza before that time, it's a separate company and not something offered by the vet. I had to order the putty etc before hand. I just got the vet to do it after as she was ill at the end and didn't want to mess about with her.

LuckyKitty13 · 26/08/2019 17:50

Queenofmyprinces - you can make them on an app from a photo! Just done one based on your comment! The app is picsart.

NoTheresa · 26/08/2019 17:53

HaroldThatsEnough

🤣🤣🤣

BlueJava · 26/08/2019 17:55

I don't get it... why? What's next? Toenail art?

SoftBlocks · 26/08/2019 18:00

As many other posters have said, isn’t the child the ‘keepsake’?
