...to think about getting a piece of breastmilk jewellery?!

I can't work out if I think it's a bit gross or lovely!

Basically, from what I gather, you send off a little of your milk and it gets made into a kind of powder/resin and you can have it set as a ring or pendant, etc. Visually it looks quite nice, from what I've seen, and given breastfeeding has been a difficult but ultimately v rewarding journey for us, I kind of like the idea of something to commemorate it when we're done (which hopefully is a while off yet).

But am I mad? Has anyone had breastmilk jewellery made? Do I need to give my head a wobble?

Breastmilk jewellery sounds a bit bizarre to me, but it's not harming anyone else so crack if that floats your boat

I'd never heard of placenta prints. This one looks like a pizza

Oh and I think celebrate away.. I am incredibly proud of my journey.. totally agree with @Pippinsqueak

Anotherdayanotherdollar · 26/08/2019 10:03

I had a pendant made. I never wear it and never intended to. I've told about 3 people what it is. What matters to me is that I have it and it symbolises a lengthy and difficult time of my life but it (bf) was something I prioritised and persevered with when I knew that to give up would be a much, much easier option.
It could be considered a trophy to myself, as could anything I ever treat myself to which is fuck all

NoSauce · 26/08/2019 10:10

Why would anyone need a necklace to remind them? I don’t understand that. One of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. I just don’t get it.

QueenofmyPrinces · 26/08/2019 10:12

Has anyone had one of those “tree of life” paintings done that are based on a photo of the woman feeding her baby?

I think they’re amazing and am considering getting one of those done too.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 26/08/2019 10:13

Wish I was entrepreneurial and that I came up with this idea

I never fail to be amazed at what people will spend their money on to have something unique

Vasya · 26/08/2019 10:14

You do you, but I find the whole concept of it incredibly cringy and weird. That's not to say you shouldn't do it though - it's your view that matters for your jewellery!

PhilCornwall1 · 26/08/2019 10:17

@EnthusiasmIsDisturbed here's a business opportunity for you.

The dad can celebrate his part in the "creation" of the child by having his dried sperm made into a Pendant. Chances are with this mad, mad world we live in, that's already more than possible.

JacquesHammer · 26/08/2019 10:19

Why do you think that’s the motivation? Confused

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 26/08/2019 10:23

Is there a market to buy jewellery just because it’s made from breast milk

I thought it was a pendant etc made form your own breast milk

TidyDancer · 26/08/2019 10:29

Personally I find this a bit weird. It's one of those things that if someone told me in RL that they'd done it I'd smile and nod but be thinking it was a bit 'look at me aren't I amazing and special'.

Breastfeeding your baby is wonderful and each to their own obviously but I don't think you need anything more than a child to commemorate it.

Celebelly · 26/08/2019 10:29

Lots of responses this morning! Not sure how this would be a reverse, unless I'm a piece of breastmilk jewellery Confused

I'll give it some more thought I think. It's not that expensive so if I wear it for a couple of years and then decide I'm batshit then it's no big deal and I'll have got enough wear out of it to justify it. I think I'll keep schtum if asked what it is, though, and just smile enigmatically!

And yes DD is my PFB but not having any more so she will remain my Precious OnlyGrin

JoyTurner · 26/08/2019 10:33

Not for me at all, but it’s not harming anyone so each to their own.

My only ‘issue’ is we are trying to promote and normalise breastfeeding, so a ‘special’ piece of jewellery to commemorate it seems a bit contradictory to me. Appreciate that is only my thoughts on the matter though.

Definitely not anti BF btw, mixed fed my DC and glad you have enjoyed the experience OP.

GladAllOver · 26/08/2019 10:36

What guarantee do you get that the object is a genuine one-off with your own milk?
For all you know these could be made in batches with cow's milk.

JustDanceAddict · 26/08/2019 10:45

Not something I’d have considered. When your kids aren’t grown up you will barely think of how you fed them as a baby and be grateful they’re fully rounded, healthy humans! My reminder of feeding them is seeing them in front of me, or in photos when they were babies.

MaidenMotherCrone · 26/08/2019 10:57

What about Jizz Jewellery? Pearl necklace anyone? Velvet chocker with a drop of jizz pendant?

PhilCornwall1 · 26/08/2019 11:00

@MaidenMotherCrone hands off that idea, I came up (no pun intended 🙂) with that 11 responses below! GrinGrin

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 11:01

How about a patchwork quilt made from all the milk-soaked muslin cloths I used?

Benjispruce · 26/08/2019 11:02

There must be a market for all those breast pads...... coasters perhaps?

JacquesHammer · 26/08/2019 11:03

When ejaculation is as much of an effort as breast-feeding can be, then sure Grin

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 26/08/2019 11:05

Wish I'd done this.

People have 'diamonds' made from the ashes of loved ones, which are sometimes seen by others as macabre and bizarre. But if it brings them comfort, who else is it hurting?

If people these things as taboo, it's probably because death and breastfeeding itself (especially when done in public) are also viewed as socially taboo.

I don't buy into those hang ups. Buy/wear whatever makes you happy and enjoy it!

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 26/08/2019 11:05

I wondered how long it would be before the 'smugs' arrived.
