Would you like another woman taking over your kitchen?

Long story so won't bore you but a situation arose last week where one of my kids - all 4 kids still at home and over 25 - told me his Gf was cooking for us that evening - she'll only eat certain foods shall we say! Anyway, I became very unreasonably paralytic with rage (without showing it) as I didn't want another female controlling my kitchen. I don't mind anyone just helping a little but not taking full control. Have only told Dh who thinks I'm unhinged so he doesn't count but AIBU?

Oh god poor woman, she should run in the other direction from your son.

BettysLeftTentacle · 25/08/2019 20:37

The ship has sailed on not being that MIL OP. You may need to re-think.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 25/08/2019 20:39

Oh, I certainly would. The likelihood is that she can cook better than I can Grin

Hecateh · 25/08/2019 20:42

I had a BBQ for my adult daughter's birthday yesterday. I did all the prep but we all got stuck into the tidying up after and all my cutlery, glasses, plates etc are in the wrong place.

I'm thrilled; it's far easier to move things to the right place as I come across them than face a mountain of mess this morning

BackforGood · 25/08/2019 20:44

Well yes, your bad for very much failing to convey the ‘joke’. And if you choose to take responses to your post as indicative of the problem with modern society because you didn’t convey the ‘joke’ then that too is on you.

This ^
Are you not aware that people can only read the words you write, and not hear tone of voice or see body language or facial expressions in a post on the internet ?

For the record, if my grown up children live with me and don’t cook I will think I’ve failed.

Narcissist through and through. My mother's like this, and also just like this about being told she's in the wrong. Husband thinks she's unhinged...so he doesn't count. AIBU people aren't polite enough...so we don't count. You only count if you give them supply!

Skittlenommer · 25/08/2019 20:52

This!!

BlockedAndDeleted · 25/08/2019 21:01

Ah that’s interesting WombOfOnesOwn (love this username btw!)

I was wondering if OP’s husband had married his Mother...

CruellaFeinberg · 25/08/2019 21:11

but I think it's best to stop this post now x

yeah that's how it works here.... Hey everyone, thread didn't go the way the OP was hoping, so we should all stop now?

Anyway, I became very unreasonably paralytic with rage you left out the tinkly lighthearted

Chickydoo · 25/08/2019 21:13

I'd love it! Can she come to mine?

Ibiza2015 · 25/08/2019 21:24

His gf is making a very nice gesture offering to cook for you all without her dietary requirements causing you hassle. It’s a considerate act. I’d be really impressed if any of my children brought such a kind and thoughtful partner home.

Besides, you have four children over the age of 25 still living at home. That is really not normal and will not make them happy long term. You need to start encouraging them to spread their wings. Being tolerant of girlfriends is a huge part of that.

justasking111 · 25/08/2019 21:26

Two DS had girlfriends which came and went, the ones that cooked us dinner as a thank you are fondly remembered.

LadyRannaldini · 25/08/2019 21:33

Have only told Dh who thinks I'm unhinged so he doesn't count

So only those opinions that agree with you count!
Why is it 'your' kitchen, isn't it a shared part of the house? It really annoys me when I hear 'my house', 'my curtains' etc from women, sounds like my mother in the 50s!

UndomesticHousewife · 25/08/2019 22:26

Another female controlling your kitchen?

That is a really over dramatic way of putting it

All that happened is another person cooked dinner in your house

howdyalikemenow · 25/08/2019 23:04

Are you Pam from Gavin and Stacey!?

'Paralytic with rage" is definitely unhinged. Poor Mick
