To be bothered by this?

I know I am and I know this is going to come across as really judgemental Blush

I'm seeing someone new, only been a few weeks. We went to the cinema last night, had gallery tickets where the drinks, popcorn etc are included so realise he was probably just taking advantage of that.... but he ate 3 boxes of popcorn during the film. Is this a lot?

I was waiting to have a bit of a cuddle watching the film but couldn't because it was non-stop eating all the way through.

I don't even really know what I was bothered about, he's overweight and that doesn't bother me at all. I find him really attractive but it just seems mindless and greedy to eat that much during a 2 hour film.

AIBU to feel a bit put off by it? disclaimer I already know I am

I must be in the minority because if I went and there was free popcorn I’d be eating more than 3.

cushioncovers · 24/08/2019 21:55

Can we please all stop using the word cuddle🤮😂

IWantAPetElephant · 24/08/2019 22:03

@DerelictWreck it’s not really ‘free’ the tickets cost more to sit in the gallery so it’s more like it’s included in the ticket price but you can have as many drinks, popcorn and I think nachos as you want without paying any extra.

I get why you’d want to make the most of it going and paying a bit extra, but still thought 3 boxes in the space of 2 hours was a bit much.

Greed isn't a great trait to possess and once you've noticed it it will drive you mad. I couldn't bear the constant noise beside me for two hours.

JovialNickname · 24/08/2019 22:22

I know you say you don't mind him being overweight (and I believe you) but he does also sound gluttonous (3 whole boxes, really?) undisciplined, and self absorbed if he's really just stuffing his face with the most food he can whilst ignoring you. That is very unattractive.

IWantAPetElephant · 24/08/2019 22:56

@JovialNickname yes I think you’re right, I felt like once there was food i was passed over in favour of that.

It’s never bothered me any other time we’ve eaten together, probably because he still sits in front of me and talks to me if we were eating out so I don’t end up feeling ignored. But before going he was talking about enjoying going together and having a cuddle (sorry!) then it was just like the food was more important than any of that.

Can we please all stop using the word cuddle

One person says this and OP starts apologising!
There's nothing wrong with the word 'cuddle'. Use it as much as you like.

Motoko · 25/08/2019 03:51

Ugh, it would turn me right off, especially this early in a relationship, it's as if the food is more important than you.

Greed is never attractive, and if it's annoying you now, you'll end up resenting him. You'll look at him stuffing his mouth, and feel sick.

And just because a lot of pps laugh about eating that much themselves, it's not funny. No wonder we've got an obesity epidemic.

YANBU.

MissLadyM · 25/08/2019 04:05

Ugh he sounds like a greedy pig. And he's clearly not that into you if he's acting like this so early in a relationship! Not exactly sexy!

OrangeSwoosh · 25/08/2019 07:31

How exactly did he eat 3 boxes? Did he get 3 to begin with or did he get up twice during the film?

notacooldad · 25/08/2019 07:37

Can we please all stop using the word cuddle
Why?

Smotheroffive · 25/08/2019 08:03

I would find him quite off-putting, and you clearly do too!

His eating through the entire film is really excessive. I love a bit of popcorn just as much as the next person, but thats just greedy and not an attractive quality designed to appeal on any date.

LTB obvs

Or, try an actual restaurant and watch him go! I wouldn't find it appealing, its supposed to be all about the company and the film, not the poocorn!

This doesn't sit right with you, end of.

Anyway, where does one go to get free popcorn, and keep getting it during the film, or does one get 3 boxes at the outset to work through?

IWantAPetElephant · 25/08/2019 08:31

@OrangeSwoosh and @Smotheroffive he got 3 to take in. He took 2 boxes in and asked me to bring another one in for him. I think that makes it worse in a way, because it wasn’t like oh I’m still a bit hungry I’ll get another box but more like I’m planning to sit and eat that much from that start?

I’m glad other people think it’s a lot and I’m not just being massively judgmental about it.

OP posts:
HeffaLump1 · 25/08/2019 09:13

Don't got to an eat as much as you like restaurant with him, you'll never get out. "It's an offer, not a challenge" seems to apply to him

TSSDNCOP · 25/08/2019 11:16

Hold on! The popcorn was free you say? I'd have been like a locust. That stuff's normally a fiver a box!

IWantAPetElephant · 25/08/2019 14:16

@TSSDNCOP the tickets are more expensive but you don’t pay extra so by the time you’ve had a drink and popcorn it probably works out a bit cheaper than paying separately. Especially if you have 3 boxes Wink

I can understand wanting to make the most of it when it’s included in the ticket price but I wouldn’t have been able to eat that much. It was more just the constant eating that I found a bit off putting though.

OP posts:
TSSDNCOP · 25/08/2019 15:06

Yes, I see that. As the popcorn muncher it's less annoying than sitting next to the popcorn muncher.

WorraLiberty · 25/08/2019 15:08

Greed is a turn off for me.

I can't imagine what he might be like at an all you can eat buffet

burnoutbabe · 25/08/2019 15:16

It round put me off to plan 3 from the start. Bit different if half way through he asked if you fancy more drink and got another box then.
Me and other half never cuddle at the cinema as the seats aren't really designed to do that comfortably. But we'll hold hands on and off during the movie or hand on leg etc.

rookiemere · 25/08/2019 16:34

I'd find that a bit off putting too OP and I'm as cheap and greedy as they come.

OrangeSwoosh · 25/08/2019 20:33

Hold on! The popcorn was free you say? I'd have been like a locust. That stuff's normally a fiver a box!

I'd have eaten 3 boxes and smuggled a couple home!
