Ryan Air - What the hell??

FlioFlopsAndIceCream · 22/08/2019 20:25

Just checked in for our flights on Monday and Ryan Air have allocated 3 seats next to each (me, and 2 DCs), then husband has to pay extra for his seat (apparantly this is a thing now, that one parent in every family has to pay for a seat(??wtf?) - except there aren't any seats near the rest of us???

What is this Ryan Air??? Surely you can seat families together?

A complete joke. I'm fuming.... we've been looking forward to this trip for ages.

Ryan Air - thanks a million for getting our holiday off to a shit start Angry

(I can almost let them off making DH pay, but surely they can at least allocate families to sit together??? CRAZY times)

(Sorry, I know we r lucky to be going on holiday! first world problem.)

Why would it make any difference who’s sitting where if the plane crashes?

Because some families think it matters whether they get the right body back, as soon as possible.

familycourtq · 22/08/2019 20:57

Ryanair
I think I can see your problem here........

FlioFlopsAndIceCream · 22/08/2019 20:58

Timshelthechoice - and as much as I'd like to be a businesswoman, this is exactly why I can't be. I have a heart and I think it's a shame that businesses are always so cut throat!! That said, there are some companies with excellent customer service and they get repeated business. Sometimes the best business model isn't always the meanest! A little kindness and customer service can go a long way ... Sometimes ...

Some overseas budget airlines don’t do this (TAP and SAS being recent examples) so it’s a UK thing. Might be worth trying the country you are going to’s budget airlines in future as they are cheap and don’t impose the tricks the UK airlines do to knock up the money you have to pay. Plus you still get food and drinks for free with them!!

familycourtq · 22/08/2019 20:58

OH, YABVU btw

So what age are they and how long is the flight?

notacooldad · 22/08/2019 20:59

Because some families think it matters whether they get the right body back, as soon as possible
That's why they use dental records and DNA.

FlioFlopsAndIceCream · 22/08/2019 20:59

Thanks ShivD, we'll look into that!

Look they've given you seats next to your DC for free. Yes if you want to sit together you have to pay, as with all airlines. If I want to sit next to my DP I pay, your DC are safe with you so why shouldn't you have to pay to sit next to each other?

It's not a scam, it's very clear. It's how Ryanair works, cheap flights pay for extras. It's a build your own flight model

Its hardly the end of the world, your DH being sat separately isn't going to affect your holiday. You are overreacting to something which you should have known

Can you pay for one DC to sit next to your DH? So split 2/2?

ContinuityError · 22/08/2019 21:00

TAP and SAS are not budget airlines.

LesLavandes · 22/08/2019 21:01

It's not the end of the world if you are not seated together as long as one adult is seated with children.

lazylinguist · 22/08/2019 21:01

Confused I just booked Ryanair flights for the Easter holidays. When making a family booking for 2 adults and 2 dc, I was able to select seats for all 4 of us, 1 adult next to 1 dc, then same on row behind, no extra charge. Only seats in certain rows cost extra.

GrouchoMrx · 22/08/2019 21:01

What you should have done:

a. Book flights for DH and kids
b. Book flight for you on separate reservation
c. Check in DH and kids for free. They will be allocated together.
d. Pay for one seat and choose a seat next/close to the others

It's not rocket science.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/08/2019 21:02

They tell you several times when you book about needing to pay for DC and adults to sit together, but your DH could have taken any seat offered to him for free.

They will have also told you about this during the many emails they will have sent you between booking and checking in.

I hope you've thought about baggage allowances or else you'll have another shock if you try to take the wrong bag on the plane.

BlueCornsihPixie · 22/08/2019 21:02

Ffs OP it's hardly mean.

The only reason you get cheap flights with Ryanair, and the only reason you can go on holiday it seems I'd you can't afford any extras, is if Ryanair makes money. And it makes money on charges like this.

FlioFlopsAndIceCream · 22/08/2019 21:03

Lazylinguist - that's what happened to us last time, that's why I wasn't expecting this!

OP posts:
LadyRannaldini · 22/08/2019 21:03

so it’s a UK thing.

Utter rubbish! even the scheduled carriers now have differing tiers of fares depending on luggage, seats etc.

timshelthechoice · 22/08/2019 21:03

Go ahead and fly with them then, Flio, I'd rather have cheaper any day.

ShivD · 22/08/2019 21:03

Well they’re the same price as budget airlines for the flights we’ve done (Lisbon, Copenhagen and Stockholm)

IAmALazyArse · 22/08/2019 21:03

Passengers should revolt and re-seat themselves as they want in groups.

Don't even go there😂 I remember Ryanair from times when there was no allocation.
People are animals!

BlueCornsihPixie · 22/08/2019 21:04

Basically what your expecting OP, is everyone else pay lots of money for their flights to keep Ryanair in business but you pay minimum, and get all the extras included.

If you want to have the extras included it will be more for the flights, simple as

"mean" or just trying to make money.. like.. business?

You've actually been a bit dim OP. You can get free seats on Ryanair if you wait for two days before the flight to check in. You just select 'random allocation', I assume if your kids are young enough they take into account or you sort when you get on the plane. If you check in when it opens up until 2 days before your flight you must pay to choose your seats.

FlioFlopsAndIceCream · 22/08/2019 21:06

Thanks all!! I'm leaving the thread now! I've had my rant and got it out of the system!! Thank you for hearing me! And thanks for all the replies!! I've learnt my lesson and know for next time!! I've been suitably told and hear I've been VU!! Wine
