Ryan Air - What the hell??

FlioFlopsAndIceCream · 22/08/2019 20:25

Just checked in for our flights on Monday and Ryan Air have allocated 3 seats next to each (me, and 2 DCs), then husband has to pay extra for his seat (apparantly this is a thing now, that one parent in every family has to pay for a seat(??wtf?) - except there aren't any seats near the rest of us???

What is this Ryan Air??? Surely you can seat families together?

A complete joke. I'm fuming.... we've been looking forward to this trip for ages.

Ryan Air - thanks a million for getting our holiday off to a shit start Angry

(I can almost let them off making DH pay, but surely they can at least allocate families to sit together??? CRAZY times)

(Sorry, I know we r lucky to be going on holiday! first world problem.)

I don't think it's that bad. Just switch half way through flight so dad is in charge.

In fact...

What I want to know is...

Has anyone ever deliberately not booked in the hope that their kids get seated next to a stranger so they don't have to look after them???

Grin

Or has anyone ever been seated and a young child placed adjacent with no parent nearby?

Petrichor11 · 22/08/2019 20:41

YABVU to be at all surprised by this

Ryanair are well known for squeezing every last penny out of its customers.

Be glad you have one adult with the kids for free!

transformandriseup · 22/08/2019 20:42

I think you are being unreasonable given that three of you are sat together. It will hardly ruin your holiday.

You've cheered me up and made me laugh!!

So the reason you booked Ryanair is because it's cheap but the reason it is cheap is because they charge a basic price and then add on additions. It's a business model. It suits a lot of people. Not everything revolves around families.

HeyMonkey · 22/08/2019 20:44

You're not getting shafted. It's standard. They're a business, businesses are there to make money, and Ryanair are the cheapest all round.

They're complying by seating one adult with children. This has been the case for years. It's just simple economics, if you want to pay less you won't get 5* service.

FlioFlopsAndIceCream · 22/08/2019 20:45

HeyMonkey - I don't want to pay less! I have to pay less! (because I haven't won the lottery - yet!) I'd LOVE to pay more and travel Emirates!!

@FredaFrogspawn It’s such a scam. Pay for your seat or we’ll seat you randomly on purpose. Passengers should revolt and re-seat themselves as they want in groups.

You can't do that because everyone needs to be in their allocated seats in case there's a crash.

Amanduh · 22/08/2019 20:46

This isn’a budget airline issue. Most airlines do it.
It’s a READ BEFORE YOU BOOK FFS issue.
What’s it got to do with the rich getting richer and you getting shafted because theres two adults and one of you is sat with the kids.
Get a grip.

notacooldad · 22/08/2019 20:47

Passengers should revolt and re-seat themselves as they want in groups
They do! We call it The RyanAir shuffle.

Nicknacky · 22/08/2019 20:49

How long is your flight and what age are the kids, just out of interest

FlioFlopsAndIceCream · 22/08/2019 20:49

Amandah! - it's the principal!! If they were right for space, I'd think fair enough! But give there's loads of rows of 4 seats in a row, I can't help thinking this is a money making exercise where we've been allocated seats apart on purpose so we have to pay for all of us to move :) Just pissed off that's all! Like you are with me!!! :)

FlioFlopsAndIceCream · 22/08/2019 20:49

*tight for space

All airlines do this, checked in yesterday (tui) plane still half empty and guess what, dd and I aren't next to each other - it's £9.50 per seat to switch, well we won't bother,

Grimbles · 22/08/2019 20:50

When I last flew Ryanair as a family group we were all seated together, except for the 3 year old who was given a seat at the other end of the plane Grin

They let us swap seats without charge

TulipCat · 22/08/2019 20:50

I agree OP, I think this is really annoying. Most people who book as a group want to travel together. This practise of splitting families is (just) one of the reasons we never fly Ryanair.

DontLookBackIntoTheSun · 22/08/2019 20:51

You can't do that because everyone needs to be in their allocated seats in case there's a crash

Why would it make any difference who’s sitting where if the plane crashes? We often change seats around amongst our party, the flight attendants neither know nor care

LadyRannaldini · 22/08/2019 20:52

It's quite clear on the website, people need to stop blaming Ryanair for their own inadequacies!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 22/08/2019 20:53

We were told we could move on a Virgin Atlantic flight as there were empty seats. If the plane crashes I really don't think the seating plan will be a lot of help...

stucknoue · 22/08/2019 20:53

Apparently (according to our travel agent) on tui flights people just switch seats around once on board, it's not a full flight (yet) travel agent checked so could be 30 seats free including the emergency exits, I've manned it before on an empty plane, got a row of seats to myself and laid down!

notacooldad · 22/08/2019 20:54

You can't do that because everyone needs to be in their allocated seats in case there's a crash
They are not going to be in their allocated seat by the time the plane hits the ground.
Every flight I've been on this year has had a shuffle around, especially when theres been a stag or hen party on board!

timshelthechoice · 22/08/2019 20:54

YABU. They're not in business to be nicey nice because you chose to have kids and travel with them. So swap seats later or your h sits with the kids and you sit in his seat.

teachermam · 22/08/2019 20:54

You pay for them
When u book

notacooldad · 22/08/2019 20:55

I can't help thinking this is a money making exercise where we've been allocated seats apart on purpose so we have to pay for all of us to move
Of course it is!!!!

apacketofcrisps · 22/08/2019 20:56
