To wonder why people have no blinds/ nets at the window ?

I’ve always grown up with news and curtains at the windows and have always had nets and curtains or blinds at my window however I have noticed when I pass other people’s homes some homes don’t have anything covering the window.

Surely if your house is on ground level and people pass by they can stare and look right inside your house ?

Do you ever worry about privacy ?

I get it’s not invasive during the day but surely when is nighttime and the lights are on indoors it must feel like everyone can see you ?

I especially love the people on the net curtain threads who say ‘I hate nets, they look dreadful, I hate them, no one under 100 has them. I live in the arse end of nowhere with no neighbours and no one ever walks past my house ever.’

I'm not doing anything that I care if people stare at tbf. If I do a home workout or hang about in underwear I close the curtains

We have nets. I don't want people seeing me in my pyjamas. Plus I sometimes pretend I'm not home as we have a lot of cold callers. And I just like privacy. We are by a bus stop too. I don't want everyone staring at us while waiting for people to board

I have nets. Well, voiles, really. I am under 65 Grin

That said - people probably wouldn't really see into our house anyway, unless they were in our front garden, as our ground floor is over a metre above road level. We do close our curtains at night.

Nets. 🤣

Why would I care if random people MIGHT see me going about my day, fully clothed, eating, walking about and sitting on chairs?

I do this in town without benefit of a giant wearable net, and not a single pearl set has fainted yet.

I suppose time will tell.

lotus because unless you want to do 'naked dancing' or similar then if people see you watching tv then no harm done. Sometimes I might draw my curtains later than the 'watching me, watching TV' daylight hours - but really if that bothers anyone, I'm not too bothered either.

We have blinds and curtains but I do make sure that the dog can see out when he is sitting on the back of the sofa. Knowing that he can see out means that passers by can see in but I'm not too bothered. The curtains are always closed before any lights go on though

Why would you want to block daylight?

I have nets and I really don’t care what a bunch of random people on the internet think.

I have a massive front window (floor to ceiling, across the whole of the front) and as am on a corner plot, everyone can see in and I hate people looking in for various reasons. The nets are just very plain and there for privacy.
I can see out easily but you really cannot see in with them.

The advantage of living on the first floor. No blinds, I do have curtains but am sitting here with the light on and the curtains open despite it being pitch black outside. There's a high windowless wall opposite my windows less than 15 metres away so so if I stood up someone standing at the base of the wall would be able to see me, but the street is deserted so the chances of that happening are practically nil.. The only reason I close the curtains in the bedroom is to stop the street light shining directly onto my pillow.

I couldn't bear not closing the curtains myself at night but I do love it when other people don't. I'm too nosey! 😂

The only nets I ever see are in the before clips on Homes Under the Hammer!

We have vertical blinds in our kitchen at street level but during the day they're pulled up out of the way. Everywhere else just has curtains. If I want to chane during the day I pull them and put a light on. I thought everyone did!

I wonder if you're my neighbour @Oneborneverydecade HmmGrin

We have a roller blind and curtains in lounge but never draw them. Mainly due to laziness. We have a small front garden between our window and the street so not directly on, someone would need to be looking in.
I love looking in other peoples houses so fully aware people may do it but it just doesn't bother me. Also I don't like the feeling of being inside with all windows and curtains drawn and not being able to see outside, don't know why. When dh is away I often sleep with the curtains open Blush

I have curtains, but I couldn’t care less if people see in. I’m not doing anything radical in there, sorry to disappoint.

Net curtains are revolting.

Monstrance I'll accept being a weirdo. These aren't your average 2 bed semi's, they are terraced houses going for well over the million pound mark. I look in, I'd love a house like them but even with money being no object after a huge lottery win etc I wouldn't. I'd leave London and get more for my money. We're working class council dwellers but not poor, our home is nice and 100% what I want with the space but I love seeing what they've done, wondering what I'd do with their place and just musing.

Who doesn’t love s good gander into someone’s front room, unless someone is in there of course....

I have nets because I live on a road called Gawpersville Avenue and every fucker going past likes to look in.

I used to have nets but they made the rooms so dark I got rid of them all.

Now a small boy has moved to the area and spends all his time peering through the windows until I close the curtains. Drives me nuts.

I have nets in my front room because the window is HUGE and I felt like I was in a goldfish bowl.
I hate them though and only have them because they are cheaper than blinds to replace when the cats have their crack head hour (you know the one where they run round like a loon for no reason) and destroy them.
If anyone can recommend some anti cat blinds that would be great Grin

I can't believe people actually describe others as common. I've never ehard anyone do that seriously.

Inlaws house is like this.

They dont have to worry about neighbours, as they live in a huge bungalow in the middle of a field.... Scares me, i think about someone being out there, and looking in 😵

Nets have been replaced by “voile”. Same effect, but without 70s connotations.

I have neither, but live in rural area. We never draw the curtains as we like to look out. I love the light.
Nothing worth knicking .

has anyone tried mirror film, during daylight hours you can see through it but people can't see in. A friend had some in a caravan near a path and it gave privacy but they could look out. At night you need curtains as it doesn't work if you've got the light on inside. It cuts down the light to a certain extent, but not greatly

I grew up in a town with no nets and moved to a city full of nets. Initially I hated nets/blinds but after 20 years here I can no longer sit in a open front window. Feel watched and exposed. Not one house out of the 200plus on our road has open windows. We would get everyone looking in.
Definitely a class thing. I guess middle classes and above usually have more space between front window and pavement, and the association between no nets and posh houses have stuck.
