To wonder why people have no blinds/ nets at the window ?

I’ve always grown up with news and curtains at the windows and have always had nets and curtains or blinds at my window however I have noticed when I pass other people’s homes some homes don’t have anything covering the window.

Surely if your house is on ground level and people pass by they can stare and look right inside your house ?

Do you ever worry about privacy ?

I get it’s not invasive during the day but surely when is nighttime and the lights are on indoors it must feel like everyone can see you ?

Because my living room is small. Blinds or nets make it look smaller so I have curtains instead which are closed when it's dark.

I can’t imagine choosing to have net curtains nowerdays Confused

We have curtains but we don’t close them. I don’t like feeling closed in, and don’t really care if people can see in as they walk past.

I wonder about people who never open their windows. I spend all my working life in and out of peoples homes and I’d say most people don’t ever air their homes. I can’t get my head around that at all.

I don’t know anyone with nets or blinds. They are definitely the C word. Sorry.

Well I guess CherryPavlova that you and everyone you know have such long driveways that no passer by could possibly see in your windows. Hmm

I don't know anyone under 65 who uses nets. I close my curtains when I put the light on.

I couldn't care less if someone can see my in my PJs or playing with my kids. Why does it matter? It's no secret that people watch TV in their pyjamas in their own homes so if people dont want to see that they can just avert their eyes.
I think net curtains look awful and blinds get filthy. Both make the room feel dark and cramped.
I live on a quiet cul de sac so the only people who walk past are neighbours, and our house is set back from the path. Maybe if I lived on a busy road and my front room was right on the pavement I might feel differently.

We don't have blinds, nets or curtains and as a result, we don't tend to sit in the living room in the evening. It's a total pain. We have bay windows, so you have to bend a curtain rail to go round them, which stops them working so well. I got so fed up of fighting with them to open and close them, that I just gave up and left them open. In the end we agreed they may as well come down. Blinds are ugly and shutters seem to block out a lot of light. If you have any suggestions, I'm all ears!

I don’t like or have nets but we have a fairly overgrown front garden and when it gets dark I shut the shutters. I wouldn’t sit there with nothing covering the windows at night, I would feel very exposed!

The amount of light nets block is astonishing. And no-one I have ever known who has them washes them very often so they always look a bit dingy.

Hate nets. Dusty, musty, so heavy, never look exactly right, no light in the house. Blinds are better but I don’t have mine (fixed ones that were here when we moved in) open anyway because it keeps the room cooler.

We don’t have them and yes, people can see in if they look. I don’t care if they see me watching tv or the children running around.
I don’t think our tv is interesting enough for someone to break in especially for it. So I don’t see why you’d need privacy. Apart from when you’re naked.

Went to the chip shop yesterday and saw another neighbour and her partner dancing in the living room and kids running about - again with uncovered windows and the lights on lol.

I do excercise DVDs in my living room with no net curtains or blinds down Shock I suppose you would find that hilarious. Never considered some saddo would be stood there staring at me for entertainment.

I dont have nets or blinds on any of my windows , I dislike nets and blinds are a PITA to clean.
But because I live on a road that gets a lot of pedestrians passing have fake etching on the front windows its in a strip about two foot deep so I can see above it and under it if I am sat down but it is on eye level for people walking past ,

I also have curtains.

I think it's really weird not to have blinds or curtains (but agree with PP that nets are gross).
I would feel totally exposed without blinds and I live in a house in a small cul de sac with very large front gardens so hard for people to see in.
I also think for security purposes it poses a risk when people can see right in.
My mum on the other hand hates the blinds closed and always opens them when she comes to my house 🙄
She keeps hers open and only closes the curtains when it's really dark.
I do find it really cosy seeing into people's homes with their family sitting round but find it intrusive if it's me on the other end, a bit hypocritical I know 🙈

I love looking into people’s houses while I am out walking the dog Blush especially big lovely ones!

I have blinds or curtains on all my windows except the kitchen. I detest nets. I think this maybe from childhood where my memory of them is damp smelly cold and black with mould from condensation on the windows. I hated them. I don’t own nets and never would. People can see in my kitchen but I keep forgetting to put a blind up!

My house is 'large' (you keep repeating this as if it makes a difference?), and I have no blinds or nets. I do have curtains but they are purely decorative they don't actually close as I bought the wrong size I honestly don't care if people can see me in my living room

We have shutters - real ones not the wooden ones that look like venetian blinds..... but I can't always be bothered to close them. No one else around here bothers either. Its lovely at Christmas as you can walk around and admire the trees.

If you're looking in, you need to see something.

I still see net curtains in shit/expensive/dirty/clean houses Confused

We have just curtains, that are pulled over at night. But we are far back from the street and hardly anyone will be able to see in. Plus my cat was an arsehole who played twister with my blinds.

My grandmother had nets. They were grim and smelt of dust. She washed them once a year spring cleaning. The good ole days. We have shutters and curtains. I close the shutters and open the slats if I'm doing my prancing about so you'd have to be pressed up against them to see me.

I don't think there's much point in windows if you can't see out of them - I hate nets and don't mind if people can see in. As it happens, we have a tallish front hedge, so you can't see that well into downstairs anyway.

CassianAndor · 21/08/2019 21:01

But as well as not really wanting anyone staring in at me at night, I also really dislike looking out into the dark, that blackness - horrible. So I even have curtains over the French doors in the kitchen, just so as not to have that.

I hate net curtains but I have them, as I often work from home in my PJs on the sofa (naked when it’s hot), and I live on a busy road.

We have nets. I don't want people seeing inside my house during the day. Of that makes us common who cares, would rather not advertise my home to the theives. We live on a main road though. Our last house didn't need nets as you had to walk up a slope to the frond door so no chance of seeing in the windows.

You still have to shut your curtains with nets when it's dark and you have the lights as you can see through them.

When we had the Hillary's man round to fit some new curtains and track I slipped him an extra 30 to put up new track in my bay window. He did it with a gentler curve than the previous one and gave it a good cover of silicone spray. Curtains glide open and closed with minimal effort.
