Huge spider in my room and I am terrified AF :(

This is so upsetting. I walked into my room and there was a huge spider on the floor. Tried facing fear and trapping it under a pint glass, but the glass didn't fit and touched one of its legs and it ran under my TV cabinet. DH is working nights and won't be home until dawn.

I'm now barricaded in my spare room with my dog and I'm absolutely terrified. I know I'm pathetic, but I have a serious spider phobia and thi one is so big. I feel icky and have a constant sensation of things crawling all over me. How do I get through the night? Sad

Honestly I get fears and phobias, but if your thins don’t you need to seek help.

DeepDarkWoods · 20/08/2019 22:54

What do you think it could do to you?

chilledteacher · 20/08/2019 22:54

Long end of the hoover nozzle and suck it up?

JellyNo15 · 20/08/2019 22:55

Get the vacuum cleaner

which1 · 20/08/2019 22:56

Be grateful it's on the floor than on a floor or ceiling - you can trap it under something or smack it with something heavy.
I know how terrifying it can be.

Dommina · 20/08/2019 22:57

Could you put a small (v lightweight for fire safety) rolled up by the crack of the door? Might assuage panic a bit xx

Beamur · 20/08/2019 22:57

Fear of spiders can be very debilitating.
The house spider will not come looking for you. Try and relax.

WhitePhantom · 20/08/2019 22:57

You do realise that even if it wanted to hurt you (which it doesn't), it can't? No matter how hard it tried? It's completely harmless! Your dog on the other hand could savage you if it so wished. Perspective.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/08/2019 22:58

OP I’m terrified of spiders too, I get it.
I’d Hoover it up personally

Dommina · 20/08/2019 22:58

*should add, until you find either courage to kill it or trap it, or get to sleep.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/08/2019 22:58

Loads of people commenting who don’t seem to understand what an actual phobia is here too Hmm

NoIinteam · 20/08/2019 22:59

I don't know where it is atm which is the biggest issue.

I'm just as scared of killing it than I am of it being alive. It's just so pathetic. I know in my head that spiders are perfectly fine, but my body doesn't listen and makes me wanna throw up.

Usually i just accept that it's now the spiders room and scurry off to a safe place until dp comes in and escorts it out. On the nights I'm feeling brave i vacuum them up then get dp to deposit it outside. I absolutely hate the creepy bastards! Have a bath to calm down

NoIinteam · 20/08/2019 23:01

I rolled up a blanket and put it in front of the spare room door to hopefully stop it from coming inside Sad.

They also apparently are biased towards their own geography. In many areas, spiders are likely to be venomous

which1 · 20/08/2019 23:03

Ok what I'd do is go into the room and take a chair and stand on the chair so if it's on the floor it can't run on you. Try and spot it on the walls/ceiling/floor as a starting point.

NoIinteam · 20/08/2019 23:04

It's the size of a small rodent, I can't go back in there. The thought makes me feel sick.

OP posts:
Beamur · 20/08/2019 23:05

I don't think it will get past the blanket.
Do you know any relaxation techniques or similar to make yourself feel more comfortable?

Dairyqueen2 · 20/08/2019 23:06

So many threads about spiders at the moment Shock. Is it the season for it? Try to get some help ... it's available!

NoIinteam · 20/08/2019 23:07

I didn't sleep much last night, so I'm hoping I'll just doze off from sheer exhaustion. It's my birthday as well Sad can't say I'm having a jolly one.

Well at least you've got someone to help you when he gets home. Believe me, it is 100 x worse when you live alone.

The last one I had was over my bed and I couldn't get at it in any 'safe' way so had to sleep on the sofa for two nights. Eventually it disappeared. No idea where it went but far far away I hope.

I hate this time of year for this reason that they start to venture inside. Even though it's still warm out, it makes me want to/actually do keep my windows close to reduce the risk.

Owlypants · 20/08/2019 23:10

@Nolinteam is it actually massive? I become incredibly irrational when i see them and insist it's a giant but I'm later informed that its smaller than i thought. I think when fear kicks in the scary thing appears larger. I find that reminding myself this helps! It's horrible when you lose sight of them but try playing a game on your phone or doing a crossword, something to stop you thinking about it. He won't leave that room, he'll stay there.

BiffNChips · 20/08/2019 23:11

Invest in one of these. They work a treat!

magpiecounter · 20/08/2019 23:14

@BiffNChips we have one of these for my husband. He calls it Trident because it's there as a deterrent to all spiders. He thinks it's working but I'm just getting in there with the vacuum each day before he sees some of them 😂

magpiecounter · 20/08/2019 23:15

@NoIinteam will your dog not catch it? My cat used to be brilliant at spiders and we then didn't really have any. Slugs were a different issue 🤢
