Mine is a father throwing a drink in his daughter's face. She was about six and had knocked it over after he had queued to get it.

Several years ago in Turkey. There was a group staying in our apartments 2 couples and one of the girls mother. It all looked a bit dodgy as the girls were much younger than their boyfriends. They gave ages that became less plausible the more they talked. For eg one pair said they were 29 and 19. But when talking to the man about music and gigs he'd been to it was obvious he was well into his 30's. And one of the girl's was excited as it was her birthday-16th.
Fortunately we missed the main trouble as we'd been out and decided not to go to the bar that night. I woke up about 2ish to the sound of yelling and doors being kicked in.
Apparently one of the girls, not getting enough attention from her boyfriend, had got off with another (younger) guest and all hell had broken out. Fighting, smashing up of rooms. Kicking in doors looking for the girlfriend who was hiding in another apartment. The police came and couldn't control him . Eventually the hotel porter got him under control and the police took girlfriend, other girl and mother to another resort.
Amazingly ex slept through all this and was puzzled why it was so subdued round the pool next morning.

@BlondeBumshelll we had the same in Turkey. DH and DS were chased out of one of the shops because he wouldn't buy a laser pen. "You English have too much money, we have nothing!" Shouted at us.

Add to that being hollered at by groups of men outside the hospital after DS needed stitches.

Oh and being sexually assaulted in the toilets by a 60-odd year old cleaner one evening.

Turkey is definitely off my list of places to go back to.

hairy legs

BendyLikeBeckham · 22/08/2019 01:55

@Mileysmiley Did you mean to be so racist? Hmm

isabellerossignol · 22/08/2019 02:04

also I was sick of looking at the women's hairy armpits all the time. Why would they not shave their armpits and their hair legs! Horrible imho

Maybe because they don't want to?

Mileysmiley · 22/08/2019 02:18

@BendyLikeBeckham

My Dad is german so I am not racist ... just telling it is

I could also tell you about the italian queue jumping in the restaurant but I wouldn't want to bore you

Mileysmiley · 22/08/2019 02:19

just telling it like it is

Mileysmiley · 22/08/2019 02:20

@isabellerossignol

If you want to let your body hair grow it is entirely your choice but I think it looks gross ... this is just my opinion btw

Alicewond · 22/08/2019 02:25

@mumsnet

How is this light hearted and funny?

How is this light hearted and funny?

It says right there in the title of the thread that it's not light-hearted.

We were on holiday in Turkey a few years ago in a group of three families. Second day we were there the children walked to a local shop only a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. For context oldest child was 17, youngest who went was 6. They came back scared and the younger ones crying and said a man walked past and grabbed the 7 year olds private parts and wouldn't stop even though they were hitting him. They broke the child free and ran back. We asked reception to report it to the Police and although dreadful assumed that was an isolated issue and continued the holiday with caution,

Towards the end of the week we thought we would explore a bit, all of us have traveled as students so are pretty used to keeping ourselves safe abroad. We were planning to stay quite close that day and just get a bus to a nearby town.

After the children's experience earlier in the week we made sure the children stayed with adults and within sight. As we walked along the dad's were walking Infront chatting to each other with some of the children and the rest of the children in-between and mums at the back. As we walked along car started to drive slowly quite close to us, before we could think one of the back doors flung open and a man started to grab and pull the closest mum to him into the moving car, we were trying to hold onto her as the car stopped so the rest of our group got further away. Luckily the children saw what was happening who called forward to the dad's who ran back towards us and frightened the car enough for them to let go and drive off. The worst part was we were on a busy street with many people who were local no one tried to help during or after.

We went back to the hotel after that and got the first flight back home we could get on the next day.

Never again will any of us to to Turkey, two incidents in less than a week is far too much to give it a second chance.

Mileysmiley · 22/08/2019 04:36

@Marchitectmummy

Oh my god that sounded awful.

One of my friends went to Egypt with her husband two young boys. Her youngest boy was a stunning child with blonde hair and blue eyes. My friend noticed that some of the local men took an interest in him and would keep patting him on the head and offering him sweets. She started to feel uneasy about the attention he was getting and started to keep him close by. Her husband and her spent the whole holiday trying to stop these local men from targeting her child and told me it was not normal the way they were acting. They were so relieved when the holiday came to a close and have no intention of ever visting Eygpt again.

Alicewond · 22/08/2019 04:49

@isabellerossignol sure not light hearted, let’s all just ignore and laugh at any abuse then, after all no one said it was :). Such fun!

isabellerossignol · 22/08/2019 06:54

I don't understand what you mean. It says in the title that it's not light-hearted. Where have people been laughing at abuse?

DoesThisLookRight · 22/08/2019 07:31

mileysmiley your behaviour sounds absolutely appalling. If management gave them replacement towels then they were obviously allowed to claim their sun loungers by doing that. Just because your dad is German it doesn’t give you a free pass to say absolutely hateful, obnoxious, racist comments.

DoesThisLookRight · 22/08/2019 07:34

alicewond it’s a thread about worst behaviour witnessed on holiday with a note from MN stating it’s not lighthearted. Don’t read it if you don’t want to.

Mileysmiley · 22/08/2019 07:34

@DoesThisLookRight

I was only 23 at the time of course I wouldn't behave that way these days because I am a completely different person . I am not at all racist because I am married to a black man from Jamaica!

Tryingandfailing39 · 22/08/2019 07:34

A mother punching her teenage daughter in an argument and screaming/ swearing at her..... in the restaurant! It was awful and she was removed.
Also a woman attempting to hit a teenage girl after this girl had an argument with her own daughter. Police were called I believe.

Glasscrab · 22/08/2019 07:51

Of course you are @Mileysmiley. And some of your best friends are probably Germans who don’t shave their armpits. Hmm

ThighThighOfthigh · 22/08/2019 08:00

I was on holiday as a lone parent about 20 years ago with my then 5 year old. It was a friendly place and all the kids played together during the day and early evening. The adults had a few drinks while the kids played then i would take ds to our apartment, put him to bed and read a book and have a couple of drinks on the balcony.

One night I could hear a couple loudly shagging around the pool area, it was late and dark.

The next morning I went down to breakfast and was teased about what a good time I must have had shagging. I said it wasn't me. They said it must have been, you're the only single one here. So i just smiled.

A few days later a bloke was just about to leave and told me it was him and who he'd been with. They were both single. I'd took the bullet for nothing!

Jinxed2 · 22/08/2019 08:00

Waiting for the shuttle bus back to our hotel at Disneyland Paris it was rammed as it was park closing time at night and people were fighting for space. A man punched an older lady 😳

When I was 17 I went on a girls’ holiday to Malia with my friends and it was grotty. There was this sleazy rep who just used to let himself into our apartment whenever he felt like it.

My absolute worst memories, however, are of the endless, horrible sexual harassment me and my sister came in for when on holiday with our parents when we were teenagers. In Spain, Greece, Egypt, Italy. It felt like they said things extra loud in front of your parents to humiliate you. At Sant Antoni market in Barcelona when I was 15 a man openly grabbed me between my legs. I never wanted to go on holiday again after that. I’ve been back to Barcelona and plenty other places in Spain, Greece, Italy since and had no bother, maybe because I’ve been travelling with my boyfriend/now DH or because all the pervs prefer teenagers. Men are disgusting sometimes.
