To report her driving...

Hellosunshine30 · 20/08/2019 18:34

So, a woman I know through a friend has irritating me for a couple of years now. I would say the last few months this irritation has increased as I cannot believe her attitude towards the matter.

She uses her phone whilst driving. She Snapchats whilst driving. Constantly! . She doesn't seem to care who sees her either!

I sent her a Snapchat a while ago telling her to stop driving and using her phone, of course adding in the "lol" to soften the blow and avoiding any angry reply back.

Would you report her? When I say it's constant, I actually mean that it IS Constant!! I've seen her a few times and a Snapchat tonight. Who actually cares what song has come on your radio anyway!?!

OP posts:
Jemima232 · 20/08/2019 18:36

The police can only take steps if they find her doing it, though.

Meyouandbabytoo · 20/08/2019 18:37

Who would you report to? And how? Presumably only her friends can see her snapchats, would you have proof?

I know plenty of people who constantly post snapchat/ Instagram videos of themselves while driving, often with their children in the cars. It's dangerous and irritates me too, but I don't actually know what you can do about it really.

30not13 · 20/08/2019 18:38

Is snapchat the one where posts disappear? If not can you not show to police as proof?

Alfiemoon1 · 20/08/2019 18:39

I agree the police can’t do anything unless they catch her so not sure who u can report her to

TheBouquets · 20/08/2019 18:45

I see a lot of people using mobile phones while driving. It is dangerous and I think people would be in trouble if caught. That is the problem, catching them is so hard and the police can not be everywhere.
I never do it. I have been driving for a long time and I dont think I would want to try. People who dont use their phones while driving have to stay alert to be safe from those who do.

littlemissdynamite · 20/08/2019 18:52

She is doing wrong yes, but how can you prove what she is doing?

Unless (if you know where she is driving to and from,) the time goes up that the snapchat/instagram pic went on, and the police can look at cctv of where she was at the time.

ElleDubloo · 20/08/2019 18:57

There are grown ups who use Snapchat? Confused

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 20/08/2019 19:05

I don’t think the police would do anything sadly

PepsiLola · 20/08/2019 19:05

I presume you can report it to the police online, with the username of the snapchat, and give the persons details along with?

Our police website has a place where you can report things on

candycane222 · 20/08/2019 19:05

Find a viral video of idiot drivers crashing while on phones and post it in your own snapchat? Or just reply to one of her posts with a link, even, as she already knows you're a bit Hmm about it

Passthecherrycoke · 20/08/2019 19:08

No the police need to witness it, they won’t do anything because you saw it Hmm and they certainly won’t investigate snapchat etc

I think you’re over invested, it’s hardly the worst thing ever. She’ll inevitably get caught and go on a course

KB197 · 20/08/2019 19:12

Omg maybe we are friends with the same person? I think I did a similar post a while ago. I have a friend who uses her phone to video her kids whilst she’s driving (she’s the only adult in the car and she’s driving). All whilst the kids aren’t even strapped in properly. Don’t even get me started. 🤬 she even uses her phone whilst driving into the school

Nobody should use their phone whilst driving but the worst part is that she still only been driving a little while. Over confidence as it’s best.

My uncle was in a horrric accident caused by another driver using their phone! we were told he wouldn’t make it after being airlifted to hospital. He did survive but he spent months and months in a coma in intensive care, further weeks on a stroke unit and rehab. He has been left with life long physical and mental disabilities.

Please don’t use your phone people.

I would absolutely report her but not sure what the police can do with no evidence 😢

KB197 · 20/08/2019 19:14

Saying that if she was to post a video using her phone whilst she’s driving then maybe that’s enouhh evidence? I’m not sure how snapchat works so unsure if you could do this?

RosaWaiting · 20/08/2019 19:57

I’m also wondering if Snapchat itself can be used as evidence.

Should be an immediate ban for this kind of thing.

Passthecherrycoke · 20/08/2019 19:59

Evidence for what? What do you think they do with mobile phone usage whilst driving, send a file to the CPS?

It’s like a speeding ticket, the evidence is an officer witnessing it. That way it’s iron clad and you’re likely to accept the offence rather than defend yourself, which allows them to issue thousands of fines a day. No time goes into it.

Trafalger · 20/08/2019 20:00

Police will say they have to catch her. I spoke to the community pcso as our neighbour drives absolutely stoned out of her head. Apparently unless she is pulled over on a random stop and suspect she is under the influence or something they can't do anything. Its shit.

Bubsworth · 20/08/2019 20:03

Please report her. As someone who was hit by a car and seriously injured by someone who was not distracted with a smartphone when they mounted the curb, I shudder to think the kind of damage that inconsiderate airhead could inflict on someone just going about their day. It's not fair and it's wrong.

Thereshegoesagain · 20/08/2019 20:10

"I think you’re over invested, it’s hardly the worst thing ever. She’ll inevitably get caught and go on a course"

What a moronic thing to say.

Not the worst thing ever until you crash and kill someone because sending a pointless Snapchat is more important than paying attention to the road and other road users.
Fucks sake.

Passthecherrycoke · 20/08/2019 20:13

She is highly highly unlikely to crash and kill someone though is she? Don’t be so dramatic

Thereshegoesagain · 20/08/2019 20:23

You know this for a fact?
Do you have statistics to back this up?
Or maybe you are a driver who uses their mobile phone while driving?

Passthecherrycoke · 20/08/2019 20:26

Give it a quick google. 33 deaths attributed to phone use whilst driving last year. About the same number of people killed by escalators

BlueCornsihPixie · 20/08/2019 20:39

passthecherry why don't you say that to the family's of those 33 people?

"It's hardly the worst crime ever, only 33 people a year"

People who use their phones while driving are so incredibly selfish that their need to snapchat/check their texts is worth more to them than someone else's life. Do you really think it's worth it?

Meh the risk is low, only 33 people a year!

And people's lives can be affected even if they don't die. I know someone with permanent brain damage, severe organ damage, full facial reconstruction because a driver on their phone crashed into them. But hey, the risk is small! Hardly the worst crime in the world, small price to pay really so you can snapchat

Thereshegoesagain · 20/08/2019 20:41

Wow you're right that's not many at all.

Imagine their death certificate.

Cause of death:

Some twat couldn't wait to get home to send a fucking hilarious Snapchat and ploughed into the back of the car.

Passthecherrycoke · 20/08/2019 20:44

Don’t be ridiculous. What a couple of drama illamas.
She’ll be caught by the police soon enough. There is nothing else OP Can do.

TheBigBallOfOil · 20/08/2019 20:46

She sounds like she has absolute shit for brains. YANBU
