I HAVE A TREADMILL!

I am a lazy arse. No way around it.
I ballooned to size 20 and it's really not OK. Over the years I have had a rowing machine on which I fucked my back up, the bike thing, for which I was too lazy and a stepper, which is way too hard and gives me crumps.

I eat healthy food, do obviously sin, like everyone does, but main problem is my lack of movement.

So I found used treadmill and wooohoooo. It's great! I read when on it or put some show on and it's a bliss. Sweaty, but bliss. Sweaty as in I look like I just walked out of shower.

But no one except my DH knows! Because firstly, I want to have that "Erm... You lost weight! Awesome!" when I eventually lose, from people who haven't seen me for a bit. Blush
And secondly because if my family got a whiff of it I would hear "So have you used it today?" and so on every. Single. Day.🙄

But I need to tell someone that I have a treadmill and am actually using it, so here I am 😁

Thank you all! Great to see these amazing achievements and motivation you guys have!

I found out that the best speed for me is the 4kmh. Too difficult to read on higher one. Now I am working towards lasting longer rather than speeding up. I tried on 5kmh and couldn't even get up the stairs later in the evening because my legs were too weak😂

I have a calendar I made where I put time, speed, distance and how many pages I read.

I do usually feel like I had enough earlier than my goal is, but then I end up in an argument with myself that since I am already this sweaty, I will finish it, because it isn't worth it otherwise 😂 And hardcore techno helps to push through too😂

Everything hurts now. Ugh. But it works wonders on my concentration and if I keep going I might actually finish the degree with good grades! And 4 sizes smaller

😂 I told DH about this thread and that I motivated someone to work out.
He smiled. Walked off...
Came back in his gym gear and is currently on a way to a gym😂

It is addictive. I am a former couch potato and have signed up for a half marathon next may. I am slowly building up my endurance. At the moment I can jog for half an hour non stop - out on the road - I can go for longer on a treadmill. I have just done 40 minutes of hill running which has wiped me out. I wouldn’t have thought six months ago I would have come as far as I have. I love the feeling of exercising - even when it is hard.

Deadringer · 03/09/2019 11:43

Until recently I used to go to the gym 3 or 4 times a week but only used the treadmill so felt it was a bit of a waste. You have spurned me on op and I have just ordered a treadmill, should have it this week. I usually do about 40 minutes at 5 kph, looking forward to doing it now in the privacy of my own home while watching TV!

fairydustandpixies · 03/09/2019 11:57

It is incredibly heavy btw. Had the best workout of our lives to get it up the stairs

I bought one a few years back and whilst carrying it in with exDP he lost his grip and it landed on my foot. One foot with several broken bones later and months of physio, the said treadmill went onto eBay as new withougt tags! Grin

I'm even fatter now and very unfit!

Mummytea24 · 03/09/2019 12:01

I think you need to change your name op you are not a lazy arse :)

I promise I'm not being goady but can I ask how having a treadmill differs from running/walking the streets? Is it kinder to joints etc - obviously there is the benefit of avoiding cold/rainy weather!

I normally take to running outside when I've piled on the pounds (like now) so wondering if a treadmill could be an option for me!?

Please inspire me!
Very well done OP!!

IAmALazyArse · 03/09/2019 12:21

For me it's because I am combining reading with it. I couldn't do that outside safely

So are they possible to get up stairs or are they too heavy? We have stairs that go round a corner...

swampytiggaa · 03/09/2019 12:27

Running on a treadmill is constant pace no need to stop for roads etc. It is dull compared to running outside I find but it gets the job done.

I stick my headphones in listen to something loud and run steady 🙂 I do run several times a week as part of a group as well 🙂

I found it really handy when the kids were younger... H works nights and I couldn’t leave them home alone so the treadmill was perfect 🙂 if they needed me they could find me very easily 🙂

IAmALazyArse · 03/09/2019 12:38

Having it at home also massively reduces excuses.
Raining? So what. Go and do it.
Snowing? So what.
Cats falling from the skies? No excuse.

Our stairs go around a corner a bit too. Treadmills are foldable nowadays so it's doable.

I live in a very hilly area and have knee problems so walking is difficult and I avoid it if possible. It also tends to rain a lot and I hate walking in the rain. I don't like to be too far from a loo just in case, (tmi I tend to pee a lot in the morning no idea why I am fine the rest of the day) and the morning is the only time I get to myself. With the treadmill there are no excuses.

hittheroadjack1 · 03/09/2019 13:47

I'm looking at buying one. Am I better loaning one first or just going for it?

IAmALazyArse · 03/09/2019 13:54

I looked at the hire but at that prices it was better to buy cheap used one and if anything, just sell it later. Cheapest rental I've seen was 15 a week. Used treadmill was 70

GloGirl · 03/09/2019 15:38

I'm not saying I'm thick, but I'd literally never thought of using the C25K app on a treadmill Blush I sort of thought it was for outdoor running only.

How often are you expected to do it a week? I might try and do it at the gym.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 03/09/2019 15:54

@GloGirl it's recommended to run 3 times a week (non consecutive days) I'd recommend the NHS couch to 5k programme, you download it as podcasts. There are lots of other programmes of course, but I found that one excellent, and the sense of achievement when you move onto the next podcast is lovely!

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 03/09/2019 15:55

Well done OP - and I second the suggestion to change your username!

I'm considering getting one myself as I have run before (outdoors) but find it very hard to get out as DH works long hours and our kids aren't old enough yet to be left alone. Plus, I spend a lot of time on Netflix, so I could do that and get fit at the same time, win win!

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 03/09/2019 16:25

You've inspired me OP! I have joint issues so going for a run would be an awful idea for me! Keep going!

IAmALazyArse · 03/09/2019 19:03

This must be the most positive thread on MN at the moment😂

Not changing name yet. Hangovered me managed just 1km today before I gave up...

OP posts:
swampytiggaa · 03/09/2019 20:32

But that’s 1k more than you would have done otherwise...

I just did another 3k this evening with our beginners group which was nice 🙂

MissConductUS · 03/09/2019 20:43

Well done OP. I walk outside for exercise and it's helpful for weight loss. But you do have to restrict caloric intake as well. As the old saying goes, you can't outrun your fork.

IAm(NOT)LazyArse very well done, indeed! You really are not at all lazy arsed. You are doing this.

I get so bored on the treadmill, but do look forward to it in the winter when the fog and wind and dark make it much less attractive to leave the house. You are inspiring me, in advance :) thank you.

Keep it up. You must be (very very secretly) seeing a change in your body - are you?

IAmALazyArse · 03/09/2019 21:08

I am very lucky that I LOOOOVE veg and salads. My diet is good, bar the once a week sin night, but I wasn't moving at all tbh.

I do! Some of my tops are ever so little bit less tight. Which is bit odd after such a short time. My DH pointed out that I look less "swollen". He concluded I must have been holding lots of water in. The amount of sweat would support that conclusion.
Or maybe I am just imagining it😂

Glad to hear this thread is spreading motivation!
