The knives are out for the royal family

It may be deserved in some cases, however it would seem the gloves are off as far as the media are concerned. They have lived high on the hog for centuries so what is new?

Am scratching my head here is it shoot the royal family season or a smoke and mirrors exercise designed to distract us from something more important??

I would hate to be in the PR business with the RF just now.

Maybe the overt stuff but racism isn't just men in white hoods burning crosses these days

Right. So essentially what you're saying is that there has not in fact been any actual racist abuse, but because you feel that a D list actress turned royal wife cannot be criticised, you are going to pretend that there is.

If you feel some of the posts here have been racist, why not report them?

SheStoopsToConker · 20/08/2019 17:22

Really, are people unable to differentiate between "all" and "some"? When did I say she couldn't be criticised? By all means call out the private jets etc. I was referring to other comments on the thread about fakeness and having no respect for ordinary Britons etc. Which surely you must see are a bit stupid?

IcedPurple · 20/08/2019 17:28

Really, are people unable to differentiate between "all" and "some"?

Yeah, that's what I said in my very last post: "If you feel some of the posts here have been racist, why not report them?"

So have you in fact reported the comments you consider to be racist? If not, why not?

I was referring to other comments on the thread about fakeness and having no respect for ordinary Britons etc. Which surely you must see are a bit stupid?

No, I don't think they're 'stupid', but even if I did, so what? That wouldn't make them racist.

I think we're getting closer to the nub of things now: If you personally happen to agree with a criticism of the Duchess of Givenchy, that's fine. However, if you don't, then obviously it's 'racism'.

Steppenwolverine · 20/08/2019 17:29

I was referring to other comments on the thread about fakeness and having no respect for ordinary Britons etc. Which surely you must see are a bit stupid?

Could you please elaborate on this, I'm not following?

donutrehomer · 20/08/2019 17:32

It screams media smokescreen to me.

One headline about RF takes our minds off Brexit, failing NHS, refugees coming over in lorries etc. Or by sea as we don't have the correct border controls.

Or most importantly, how or country has become a total laughing stock.

SheStoopsToConker · 20/08/2019 17:34

@Steppenwolverine They are comments made upthread.

Mango Straw man argument. I did not accuse you of climate change denial. I accused Fromage and the Daily Mail etc of using criticism of Harry and Megan as a dog whistle for their racists and climate change denying supporters (misogynist as well). Or are you under the illusion that they are anything but racist misogynist climate change deniers? , These days Fromage is usually careful to avoid saying anything explicitly misogynist or racist (though back in the 80s he used to loudly spout it when drunk in the Leadenhall Arms at lunchtime - vile man then and still is) but on climate change he feels able to be more open. No, he couldn't care less about them using private jets, would jump at the offer of one himself, he is using Harry and Megan as a way to appeal to and win populist support for his right wing cause. (And in America he is shameless enough to hop on the anti vaccs bandwagon too, but that has a different demographic of support in this country, as our esteemed leader has spotted.......)

justasking111 · 20/08/2019 17:58

We are a big family now three generations, 2 grandparents, 5 adults, 5 grandchildren. I have often thought how nice it would be to be like the Kardashians just put everyone into one jet and go wherever abroad. I am sure Kim has had a great summer with her family. Maybe if I win the lottery. In our case not for reasons of privacy but convenience.

I was reading recently that first class on many airlines is not that great and small children would be annoying if they were even allowed on board.

Don`t H and M have to take along security so it is not as if they are buying two seats and baby on their lap. I would think other A listers have minders/security as well.

Did Farage even say anything about the private plane thing? I thought it was Piers Morgan who slammed H&M over their private plane flights (although I believe he did criticize MM over her wokeness)

But you quoted me and then ranted about Farage (that’s Fromage, right?) so it wasn’t a huge leap to assume you were talking about me dog whistling for climate change or whatever.

Their PR is terrible, you’d think after the criticism over their first private flight to Ibiza they’d have been suitably shamed into commercial first class for Nice.

IcedPurple · 20/08/2019 18:02

I was reading recently that first class on many airlines is not that great

Oh, I dunno. I'm guessing it's a tad better than cattle class on Ryanair.

But then, I'm a mere pleb. Not for me the luxuries of 4 private jets in a week, with a dose of self righteousness thrown in for good measure.

IcedPurple · 20/08/2019 18:03

Their PR is terrible, you’d think after the criticism over their first private flight to Ibiza they’d have been suitably shamed into commercial first class for Nice.

As I said above, it's glaringly obvious that they simply do not give a toss. And given that there appear to be no consequences for anything they do, why would they?

GlitchStitch · 20/08/2019 18:13

I think H and M have really shafted their supporters tbh. They keep making more and more PR disasters, or just don't give a shit, and are leaving their fans flailing around trying to defend the indefensible. The accusations of racism are just wearing thin now- I don't doubt there has been some, and some unnecessary and petty criticism. But they are now making absolute prats of themselves on an almost daily basis and deserve the flak they are getting. I understand if you have set down a path that states criticism of them is racist, and have been very vocal about that, it may be difficult to backtrack. But can you at least acknowledge they are doing themselves absolutely no favours?

justasking111 · 20/08/2019 18:22

I think that getting married and starting a family immediately complicated things, coupled with maternity leave. It is ironic that in the States that maternity leave is a few weeks. MM is cherry picking the bits of British law she likes. An American tends to get 12 weeks of maternity leave unpaid unless she is in a good job.

So if I was MM I would have bucked the trend and shown my face doing the glad handing on a regular basis, that I think would have stood her in good stead.

I love when middle class white people give lectures on what is and isn't racism I really do.

IcedPurple · 20/08/2019 18:28

Do you love it as much as when upper-class white people give lectures on saving the environment and then use 4 private jets in 5 days?

Whatafackinliberty · 20/08/2019 18:33

Not quite as much as I love whataboutery.

justasking111 · 20/08/2019 18:37

We are way off topic lets try to stick to the knife in the royal family as a whole.

I noticed some comments about Zara getting hand outs from a wealthy person, was it connected to her equestrian career? If so why stir the pot.

OP posts:
IcedPurple · 20/08/2019 18:38

It would only be 'whataboutery' if you got to decide what the topic of discussion is. Since you don't, it isn't.

BTW have you reported any alleged racism to MN? I'm sure they'd be very swift to take action.

RonnieScotts · 20/08/2019 18:40

M & H just don't give a shit, do they?

From £56000 engagement dresses, to £5000 copper baths, £160000 baby showers and 4 private jet trips in 4 days, they know enough about PR to realise the impact....they just well and truly don't give a damn what the public think. Arrogant.

Pamplemousecat · 20/08/2019 18:40

@Whatafuckin You are very brave to assume posters’ ethnic origins over the internet. How do you make your deductions then? So someone is only of an ethnic minority if they agree with your clap trap? How utterly offensive. You have no idea where any of us are from. We are quite entitled to have an opinion on someone’s behaviour and conduct without it having anything whatsoever to do with race. I am getting the feeling you would be happier if it were then you could say “ told you so.” You’re so far off the mark it’s embarrassing

justasking111 · 20/08/2019 18:40

Aha, found the piece where Zara and Peter Phillips are getting money from Hong Kong businessman. It seems a lot of the royals are in the firing line at the moment.

IcedPurple · 20/08/2019 18:43

In fairness, Zara and Peter Phillips do not hold titles and are not 'working' royals. Despite being the queen's grandchildren, they are private citizens and do not live off the public purse. Have they exploited their royal connection? Undoubtedly. But since they are not public servants being funded by the taxpayer, what they do is pretty much their own business.

justasking111 · 20/08/2019 18:46

@IcedPurple I know did not stop the media having a side swipe at them though. Which is what I mean by the sniping at them. The only one immune is the queen now.
